i say fuck it man. move on with your life, because this shit isn't worth it. he's already been to jail multiple times, obviously hasn't learned his lesson. so this wouldn't be helping him. and it wouldn't be helping you either if doing this would seriously put you in more danger.

it sucks to have some bullshit like this happen, but sometimes we all get something we don't deserve. move on and learn from the mistakes. all you got was a black eye.

(by the way, if your "friends" are as "cool" with him as they seem to be, i'm pretty sure they could explain the situation for you. just an option, but i'm not sure if you care enough to do that!)

I wish there was a sage function on vbulletin, cos this isn't really worth bumping for but - oh. yeah. he punched this bloke in the face, now we'll rape him! Because.. rape is funny! ..It's not, and it's equally as severe and unfunny when it's perpetrated by men to other men (and men to women, women to men, women to women, and any other gender combination you can think of).

Other than that, I'm going to have to agree with the 'save it as an amusing anecdote to tell down the pub'; you're unlikely to get anywhere with the courts (whoever said the police were there to protect and serve was one of the biggest, most effective liars in human history).. if they've said you've little/no chance in getting a prosecution, then they're not going to investigate it. Self-fulfilling prophecy. Just forget it and move on; no permanent harm has been done, the assault was minor.

man, pressing charges takes time AND money. if you (or anyone here) thinks you will fairly be compensated when you win, you need a severe reality check. US courts are awful. Even with a (assuming dependable) witness in your girlfriend, if this wigger (stereotyping here, but wiggers in SUVs are generally rich where I come from) gets a good lawyer, you're screwed and not winning anything significant. If he gets a decent lawyer he can just drag out the process until it becomes a mental strain on you to even continue. AND, even if you somehow go through with it, take all the time and money negatives in stride and win, he can always appeal and draaaag it out even more.

Criminal court != civil court. You're talking civil. Pressing charges makes it a criminal matter and doesn't cost Logann a cent. (Unless he pays taxes.)

EDIT: One more thing: to all the people saying "you should've seen it coming," or "you deserved to get hit because you had your window down when he approached your car..." Are you fucking kidding me? When, in your entire life, have you ever EXPECTED to get punched in the face in broad daylight by a complete stranger? While sitting in your car, no less? Stop being a bunch of hardasses.

Yea, I was talking about both. The compensation part of my post was referring to him "getting his due" or whatever.

Pressing charges -> criminal court would be a time investment + mental stress.

Filing a suit -> civil court would time + money + mental stress

Not worth it in either / both cases imo

...What? So he had enough space to pass you on a one lane road, yet you had no viable escape route? Assuming this story is not fabricated, either press charges (though you'll have a hell of a time proving anything) or get over it. Trying to sound like a "tough motherfucker" over the Internet is immature and, yes, bratish; but I'll be generous and assume that this simply reflects a poor aptitude for written expression rather than a noxious character trait.
