Despite its middling bulk, Togedemaru's excellent typing and access to reliable recovery in Wish allow it to act as a long-term check to threats such as Ribombee, Galarian Articuno, and Mesprit. As such, Togedemaru is a popular pick for bulky offense and balance teams, where its defensive capabilities are most valued. Physical walls, such as Jellicent and Weezing, are able to check Fighting- and Ground-types such as Scrafty and Sandaconda for Togedemaru and spread status, while Togedemaru checks special attackers in return and can pass Wishes to help them check their targets more easily. Water-types such as Lanturn and Quagsire pair well with Togedemaru, as they can check Fire-types such as Charizard and Coalossal, while Togedemaru can check Grass-types such as Eldegoss and Whimsicott. Finally, frail wallbreakers and setup sweepers like Lilligant, Gallade, and Sneasel all appreciate Togedemaru's ability to pivot into these aforementioned threats, as Togedemaru can force out a large pool of its checks and easily gain momentum with U-turn in the process.

Togedemaru can be slower or faster than what it checks depending on the situation/EV spread (some players use some speed too -- i.e. creeping aurorus or even modest vanilluxe), so it's important to emphasize that it's good at forcing the large pool of Pokemon that it checks out regardless [since a lot of them don't make any meaningful progress staying in] and so it's good pivot for teams with wallbreakers to outpressure other offenses.).
