[OVERVIEW]

Tornadus's blistering Speed, high Special Attack, and powerful and diverse coverage make it a good setup sweeper in UU. Nasty Plot lets Tornadus boost its power even further and muscle through walls like Chansey and Celesteela. It shines mainly on rain teams, severely threatening the opposing team by spamming perfectly accurate Hurricanes. Rain also gives it reliable coverage for Rhyperior, Nihilego, and Rotom-H in Water-type Weather Ball. However, Tornadus's Hurricane is too unreliable to spam outside of rain. Tornadus also struggles to boost safely because of its terrible defenses, cannot consistently pressure foes like Primarina, fails to remove certain Flying-resistant Pokemon like Celesteela, and falls prey to threats like Nihilego, Raikou, and Lycanroc-D.

[SET COMMENTS]

Nasty Plot lets Tornadus boost its Special Attack to muscle through checks like Chansey. Hurricane hits Grass- and Fighting-types like Amoonguss and Keldeo. It's also a good neutral hit on foes like Primarina. Weather Ball in rain destroys Rotom-H and Rhyperior, while Dark Pulse is more useful outside of rain teams to hit Jirachi and Aegislash super effectively. Focus Blast hits Chansey, Rhyperior, and Celesteela. Heat Wave is an option over Dark Pulse to maintain coverage for Aegislash and Jirachi and hit Celesteela super effectively, but it is generally inferior. Defiant is used to bluff a physical set, as Prankster's priority is generally inferior. However, Prankster has a minor use to let Tornadus boost before Azelf's Taunt.

Pelipper is a mandatory teammate if running Weather Ball, providing rain and a slow U-turn to get Tornadus in safely against Pokemon like Tangrowth and Amoonguss. Electric-types like Rotom-W also get Tornadus in safely against the aforementioned Grass-types with Volt Switch and can remove or wear down checks like Celesteela and Nihilego. Barraskweda and Keldeo are good at pressuring Rhyperior and Chansey for Tornadus; in return, it disposes of Grass-types for them. On non-rain teams, Fire-types like Moltres pressure Steel-types that check Tornadus, like Aegislash and Celesteela. Zarude can get Tornadus in safely against Grass-types like Amoonguss with U-turn and deal with Rotom-W, while Tornadus destroys Grass- and Fighting-types like Tangrowth and Mienshao for it.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Grass Knot can be run over Weather Ball to grant a more reliable hit on Krookodile, Rhyperior, and Gastrodon, but it fails to OHKO the former and makes Tornadus unable to hit Aegislash. A physical Defiant set with Acrobatics, Knock Off, U-turn, and Superpower without an item can be used to punish Intimidate users like Krookodile and Defoggers like Salamence. Acrobatics destroys Grass-types like Amoonguss and hits a lot of the tier extremely hard at +2. However, this set can't run Heavy-Duty Boots and gets worn down quite quickly by Stealth Rock. Tornadus can use utility moves like Defog and Taunt with Prankster to help its teammates, but it has very little bulk and longevity to consistently pull off these moves.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Chansey**: Chansey easily takes multiple +2 Hurricanes and only fears +2 Focus Blast. Even then, the move fails to 2HKO it reliably, and Chansey can wear down Tornadus with Toxic + Seismic Toss or bring in a teammate with Teleport.

**Rock-types**: Lycanroc-D and Nihilego OHKO Tornadus with their Rock-type STAB attacks, and the latter can switch into it relatively comfortably if unboosted, but they have to be wary of Weather Ball in rain. Rhyperior can take an unboosted Focus Blast and OHKO Tornadus back, but it folds to Water-type Weather Ball and boosted Focus Blast.

**Steel-types**: Aegislash, Jirachi, and Celesteela can comfortably switch into Hurricane, really only fearing Tornadus's coverage moves. Aegislash hits Tornadus very hard with Shadow Ball, Jirachi can generate momentum with U-turn and bring in an answer to it, and Celesteela can take Hurricane very easily and heal back with Leech Seed.

**Electric-types**: Rotom-W and Rotom-H can comfortably switch into Tornadus's Hurricane and retaliate, but they get hit hard by its boosted coverage moves. Raikou and Thundurus-T OHKO it with their Electric-type STAB moves, and the former even outspeeds it.

  • Tornadus's blistering Speed, high Special Attack and powerful and diverse coverage let it act as a good setup sweeper in UU. It's access to Nasty Plot lets it boost its power even further, letting it muscle through special walls like Rhyperior and Assault Vest Galarian Slowbro.
  • Tornadus's main niche over Thundurus is its STAB Hurricane along with amazing Speed, (this makes it sound like torn is fast while thundurus isn't, try to reword this a bit) hitting the tier's main defensive Grass-types in Amoonguss and Tangrowth extremely hard and outspeeding offensive foes like Keldeo, Mienshao, and Zarude.
  • It shines mainly on rain teams, severely threatening opposing team by spamming 100% accurate Hurricanes. It also gains reliable coverage for Rhyperior and Rotom-H in a Water-type Weather Ball.
  • However, Its typing serves it basically no defensive utility, and its STAB move is too unreliable to spam outside of rain, unlike its competition in Thundurus. twin Thundurus's. I'd also emphasize how its poor defensive utility means it has a hard time setting up, meaning it cannot bypass its checks with a boost.
  • It can't constantly pressure common threats like Celesteela and Primarina like Thundurus, and fails to cripple special walls like Chansey without the ability to run Knock Off.
  • It falls prey to foes like Nihilego, Thundurus-T, and Lycanroc-D, the former being able to comfortably switch into its STAB move.

  • Heat Wave is an option over Dark Pulse to maintain coverage for Aegislash and Jirachi and hit Celesteela super effectively, but pressuring foes like Rotom-W and Rotom-H becomes harder. not really since blast still does a ton to them, and you struggle to beat the latter anyway. try to make this point clearer by saying since torn is mostly run on rain and the power of heat wave is weakened and thus less preferred
  • Defiant is used to bluff a physical set, as Prankster's priority isn't needed.

Grass Knot grants a more reliable hit on Krookodile, Rhyperior, and Gastrodon, but fails to OHKO the former. Opting for it in place of Focus Blast leaves Tornadus walled by Chansey and Celesteela, while opting for it in place of Weather Ball or Dark Pulse leaves it walled by Steel-types. ??? it still has blast. I read this is as cane / gknot / focus blast which hits steels apart from aegi. Make this clearer
-add a mention of offensive pivot, make sure to say how its just inferior to thundurus
-add a mention of a prankster utility set with tailwind and defog

Checks and Counters
===================

**Chansey**: Chansey easily takes +2 Hurricanes and only fears a +2 Focus Blast. Even then, the move fails to 2HKO it reliably, (it still has a chance to 2HKO so I added the reliably bit to have it more accurate) and Chansey can wear down Tornadus in the process with Toxic + Seismic Toss or bring in a teammate with Teleport.

**Rock-types**: Lycanroc-D and Nihilego outspeed and nihilego does not outspeed tornadus OHKO Tornadus with their Rock-type STAB attacks, and the latter can switch into relatively comfortably if unboosted, but it has to be wary of Weather Ball under rain. Rhyperior can take an unboosted Focus Blast and OHKO Tornadus back, but folds to Water-type Weather Ball, Grass Knot, (since grass knot is an OO it shouldnt be mentioned here) and boosted Focus Blast.

**Steel-types**: Aegislash, Jirachi, and Celesteela comfortably switch into Hurricane and really only fear Tornadus's coverage moves. Aegislash hits Tornadus very hard with Shadow Ball, while Jirachi can generate momentum with U-turn against to bring an answer to it. Celesteela can ??? finish this

electric-types should get their own section, raikou outspeeds while thundy forms and rotom-w can take a hit and deal heavy damage back

It's access to Nasty Plot lets it boost its power even further, letting it muscle through special walls like Rhyperior and Assault Vest Galarian Slowbro. Not sure if these are the best examples -- Rhyperior isn't 100% KO'd by +2 focus blast and easily OHKOs back, and NP doesn't really define any interactions with GBro either. I think it's better to focus on stuff like Umbreon that Nasty Plot lets you boost to outdamage their healing.
  • Tornadus's main niche over Thundurus is its STAB Hurricane and equally amazing Speed hitting the tier's main defensive Grass-types in Amoonguss and Tangrowth extremely hard and outspeeding offensive foes like Keldeo, Mienshao, and Zarude. Awkward phrasing because "having the same speed" isn't a niche over Thundurus. maybe rephrase as "like Thundurus, Tornadus' speed tier lets it outspeed x y z, but it sets itself apart with stab hurricane hitting grass types etc"
  • It shines mainly on rain teams, severely threatening opposing team by spamming 100% accurate Hurricanes. It also gains reliable coverage for Rhyperior and Rotom-H and Nihilego in a Water-type Weather Ball.
  • However, Its typing serves it basically no defensive utility, and its STAB move is too unreliable to spam outside of rain, unlike its competition in Thundurus. It also struggles to boost safely because of its terrible defenses. pure flying typing is not that bad defensively -- it's really more its stats.
  • It can't constantly pressure foes such as Celesteela and Primarina like Thundurus, and fails to cripple special walls like Chansey without the ability to run Knock Off. +2 torn OHKOs offensive prim and more defensive sets fail to OHKO it so I'd choose a different example.
  • It falls prey to foes like Nihilego, Thundurus-T, and Lycanroc-D, the former being able to comfortably switch into its STAB move.

The former can set Stealth Rock to help Tornadus wallbreak, and can remove Rock-types that stop Tornadus's sweep, notably Nihilego and Lycanroc-D. This sentence implies Thundurus doesn't do any of this. It is also faster than these. 'More coverage options' is also vague and based on the set it is barely any more special than Thundurus's coverage. STAB Hurricane is basically the big difference between the two to remove Grass-types with ease. It shines mainly on rain teams, severely threatening opposing team by spamming 100% accurate Hurricanes. It also gains reliable coverage for Rhyperior, Nihilego, and Rotom-H in a Water-type Weather Ball. You don't need to compare it to Thundy in this point. Just say that it isn't reliable at removing common flying resists like Cele and Washtom. It falls prey to foes like Nihilego, Thundurus-T, and Lycanroc-D, the former being able to comfortably switch into its STAB move. I mean if it's at +2 only Lycan is revenging it, these other two will lose to Weather Ball or take more than half from its other coverage. You'd be better off with an example like Raikou

However, it Prankster has a minor use to let Tornadus boost before Azelf's Taunt.

Other Options
=============

===================

**Chansey**: Chansey easily takes multiple +2 Hurricane Hurricanes and only fears +2 Focus Blast.

**Steel-types**: Aegislash, Jirachi, and Celesteela can comfortably switch into Hurricane and really only fear Hurricane, really only fearing Tornadus's coverage moves. Aegislash hits Tornadus very hard with Shadow Ball, Jirachi can generate momentum with U-turn and bring in an answer to it, and Celesteela can take Hurricane very easily and heal back with Leech Seed.

**Electric-types**: Rotom-W and Rotom-H can comfortably switch into Tornadus's STAB move Hurricane and retaliate, but they get hit hard by its boosted coverage moves. Raikou and Thundurus-T OHKO it with their Electric-type STAB moves, and the former even outspeeds it.
