Toxapex is one of the most potent defensive Pokemon in National Dex due to its excellent defenses paired with a great typing, multiple methods of recovery, an immunity to Toxic, and the ability to punish a majority of the metagame with status conditions. Said qualities allow it to wall a wide range of dangerous threats such as Mega Lopunny, Mega Scizor, Calm Mind Clefable, Mega Charizard Y, and Volcarona. In addition, its access to both Recover and Regenerator allows it to securely pivot into many additional threats, such as Mega Mawile, Cinderace, Magearna, Aegislash, and Kartana, in order to scout their moves. Haze is useful in order to deter setup attempts from a vast array of threats, consisting of Pokemon such as Mega Scizor, Volcarona, Cinderace, Kartana, Aegislash, and Mega Mawile lacking Thunder Punch. Baneful Bunker is the preferred move in the fourth slot, as it allows Toxapex to punish the heavily threatening Mega Medicham and Dracovish, negate Slowbro’s Future Sight, scout for Z-Moves from the likes of Kartana and Magearna, and punish miscellaneous U-turn users such as Mega Lopunny, Cinderace, and Landorus-T. Toxic may be run instead, as it allows Toxapex to directly cripple Pokemon such as Hydreigon, Tangrowth, Slowbro, and Volcarona. It also enables it to punish Defoggers such as Zapdos and Tapu Fini. Knock Off can be run over Scald or in the fourth slot as well, giving Toxapex a way to punish offensive and defensive Pokemon alike, such as Cinderace, Tapu Lele, Clefable, and Ferrothorn. Toxic Spikes can be run in the fourth slot too, as Toxapex’s bulk gives it an ample amount of opportunities to set it up while also providing it with a good way of punishing switches. However, with the prominence of Toxic Spikes-immune Pokemon such as Clefable, Heatran, Gliscor, Zapdos, as well as Heavy-Duty Boots users such as Slowbro, Blissey, and Cinderace, the output is often not very notable. The given EV spread in tandem with a Bold nature allows Toxapex to check strong physical attackers such as Cinderace, Mega Lopunny, Dracovish, Swords Dance Aegislash, and Bisharp as reliably as possible. Alternatively, an EV spread of 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD may be used in order to check Volcarona, Magearna, and Mega Charizard Y more securely.

Toxapex fits best on balance teams that benefit from its ability to check and disrupt a wide range of threats. Physically defensive Tangrowth and Hippowdon have great synergy alongside Toxapex, as they are able to check dangerous Ground-types such as Garchomp, Gliscor, Landorus-T, and Excadrill. Moreover, Tangrowth also forms a potent Regenerator core with Toxapex. In addition, both appreciate Toxapex's ability to absorb Toxic and Toxic Spikes from the likes of Ferrothorn and opposing Toxapex. Steel-types such as Mega Scizor, Corviknight, Aegislash, and Magearna can check specific dangerous Psychic-types such as Mega Latios and Tapu Lele and take advantage of Clefable, which fears nothing Toxapex can throw at it bar Knock Off. In return, Toxapex provides them with a switch-in to Fire-type attacks from the likes of Cinderace, Volcarona, and Mega Charizard Y. Notably, Corviknight can also check dangerous Ground-types such as Garchomp, Gliscor, Excadrill, and Landorus-T. If running Toxic Spikes, Pokemon that benefit from it such as Gliscor, Heatran, and Mega Lopunny, have a much easier time breaking through their checks. Double Dance Reuniclus is another notable mention, as Toxic Spikes allows it to outlast grounded Dark-types such as Mega Tyranitar and Weavile. In return, it can use Pokemon drawn in by Toxapex, such as Clefable and Gliscor, as setup fodder and, very notably, counter Mega Medicham.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Toxapex is one of the most potent defensive Pokemon in the National Dex metagame due to its excellent defenses paired with a great typing, multiple methods of recovery, an immunity to Toxic, access to Haze, and the ability to punish a majority of the metagame with status conditions. Said qualities allow it to wall a wide range of dangerous threats depending on its spread such as Mega Lopunny, Ash-Greninja, Mega Scizor and Volcarona.
  • In addition, its access to both Recover and Regenerator allow it to pivot into many additional threats such as Genesect, Mega Metagross, Greninja and Darmanitan-Galar in order to scout their moveset.
  • Toxapex is also the best Toxic Spikes user in the tier due to its bulk giving it plenty of opportunities to lay down said hazards. This gives it a very efficient way of punishing switchins and outlasting grounded threats such as Tyranitar and Ash-Greninja on the long run.
  • However, as Toxapex relies on Haze and inflicting status moves to prevent being passive, it can fall short against Pokemon that do not mind these such as Clefable, Mega Alakazam and Gliscor.
  • Moreover, its typing, while being very solid, does leave it with a weakness to common Psychic-, Ground- and Electric-type moves from the likes of Mega Metagross, Genesect, Rotom-Heat and Zygarde.
  • Nevertheless, Toxapex is able to outlast many Pokemon that fail to break it despite its passive nature, and therefore requires dedicated answers on every team. This isn't necessary. You've already emphasized how effective Pex is

Set Description
========
  • Toxic Spikes functions brilliantly on Toxapex, as its typing and bulk give it an ample amount of opportunities to set it up, and helps in wearing down grounded targets such as Darmanitan-Galar and Mega Lopunny on the long run.
  • Toxic allows it to directly cripple Pokemon such as Tangrowth, Slowbro and Volcarona. It also enables it to punish defoggers such as Tornadus-T and Tapu Fini. These Pokemon (especially Fini) do carry taunt, (and probably should be taunting pex first for this reason). I'd find some different examples.
  • Haze may be run over Toxic in order to prevent Toxapex from becoming setup fodder for several Pokemon, such as Aegislash and Kartana. Kartana may not be the best example because it really dislikes a Scald Burn so it has to be real careful of setting up on Pex anyway. Consider adding something else that Pex really can't stand up to without haze.
  • Baneful Bunker can be used over Toxic in order to punish the likes of Mega Medicham and Dracovish and check Ash-Greninja more comfortably. Baneful Bunker also helps scouting choice-locked Pokemon such as Galarian Darmanitan and Genesect in addition to Z-moves from the likes of Aegislash, Tornadus-T and Dragapult. Talk about why this isn't included in the slashes. i.e, Pex's other moves are REALLY important.
  • An alternative 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD spread with a Calm Nature may be used to better handle threats such as Ash-Greninja, Tornadus-T and Mega Charizard Y. Mention that this gives you a chance of not being 2hkod by +2 Mega Blastoise

Usage Tips
========

  • Toxapex should be switched directly into Pokemon it walls such as Mega Lopunny, Mega Scizor and Volcarona. From there, it should aim to use this opportunity to lay Toxic Spikes or cripple what is in front of it with Toxic or a Scald Burn.
  • Always aim to keep Toxapex healthy through Recover and Regenerator, as it needs to be healthy in order to take on dangerous threats such as Kartana, Mega Mawile and Dracovish.
  • When facing setup sweepers such as Kartana and Aegislash, it is best to deny their boosts through Haze and sustaining yourself by regularly using Recover, while slowly whittling them down with Toxic or Scald. In case Haze was forgone, it is often wisest to attempt to cripple them through a status infliction or switching out to a teammate that can better handle said setup sweepers. Emphasize how you really need to evacuate against Substitute users if you aren't running Haze, because otherwise ur just complete bait to most of them.

Team Options
========
  • Toxapex fits best on Balance teams that benefit from its ability to check a wide range of threats such as Mega Lopunny, Ash Greninja, and Volcarona, while also providing Toxic Spikes support.
  • Tangrowth has great synergy along with Toxapex as it is able to switch into Electric- and Ground-type attacks from the likes of Zygarde, Dragapult and Magearna, while Toxapex can pivot into Fire-, Ice- and Bug-type attacks from the likes of Galarian Darmanitan, Genesect and Volcarona. Tangrowth also forms a potent Regenerator core along with Toxapex, while appreciating its ability to absorb Toxic Spikes and Toxic from the likes of opposing Toxapex, Chansey and Aegislash.
  • Steel-types such as Corviknight, Aegislash and Magearna can check specific dangerous Psychic-types such as Mega Metagross, Mega Alakazam and Tapu Lele. In return, Toxapex can provide them with a sturdy check to Fire-types. Notably, Corviknight also provides Toxapex with an immunity to Ground-type attacks from the likes of Landorus-T and Gliscor.
  • Pokemon that resist Dark-type attacks such as Clefable, Magearna and Mega Tyranitar can assist Toxapex in fully checking Ash-Greninja.
  • Pokemon that benefit from Toxic Spikes, such as Mega Metagross, Zygarde, Heatran and Ash-Greninja can have a much easier time breaking through their checks. In return, they are able to offset the passivity that Toxapex brings with it due to their offensive presence.
It's probably worth mentioning Pokemon that fit on builds that revolve almost completely around Toxic Spike damage (which pex is obviously almost always on.) Reuniclus, for example.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Knock Off is an option to remove items from the likes of Tapu Fini, Clefable and Heatran, but is quite difficult to fit over other options with broader applications.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Psychic-types**: Pokemon such as Mega Metagross, Tapu Lele, and Mega Alakazam all are capable of doing major damage to Toxapex, though none of them appreciate being worn down by poison or burn. However, it is worth noting that if Alakazam stays in its base form, it will not be affected by residual damage.

**Ground-types**: Zygarde, Landorus-T, and Gliscor all are capable of severely denting Toxapex, though none, except for Gliscor, are safe switch-ins, as they fear Scald and Toxic.

**Electric-types**: Electric-types such as Rotom-Heat and Zapdos all threaten Toxapex with their STAB moves, with Zapdos being particularly effective against Toxic Spikes variants due to its access to Defog. However, all of them must be wary of Toxic. Mention how stuff like Genesect and Dragapult often carry electric type coverage that seriously threatens Pex

Mention Taunt and the magic guarders like Clefable and Reuniclus down here.

Toxapex is one of the most potent defensive Pokemon in the National Dex metagame due to its excellent defenses paired with a great typing, multiple methods of recovery, an immunity to Toxic, and the ability to punish a majority of the metagame with status conditions. Said qualities allow it to wall a wide range of dangerous threats depending on its EV spread such as Mega Lopunny, Ash-Greninja, Mega Scizor and Volcarona. Focus on Ash-Greninja and Volcarona first, as the main spread is specially defensive. In addition, its access to both Recover and Regenerator allows it to securely pivot into many additional threats, such as Greninja and Galarian Darmanitan, in order to scout their moves. I think there's a better example than Greninja available for sure, as Groundium Z's quite potent in this metagame. Tornadus-T or Aegislash would make more sense to mention here. Toxic Spikes functions brilliantly alongside Toxapex as its bulk gives it an ample amount of opportunities to set it up, while also providing it with a great way of punishing switches. Toxic allows it to directly cripple Pokemon such as Tangrowth, Slowbro, and Volcarona. It also enables it to punish defoggers such as Tornadus-T and Tapu Fini in case they forego Taunt. I don't think you need to mention "incase they forego Taunt," very little to no Tornadus-T or Tapu Fini run Taunt right now. Baneful Bunker may be utilized over Toxic in order to check Ash-Greninja as reliably as possible and punish the likes of Mega Medicham and Dracovish. It's important to note the implications this has with teambuilding either here or while talking about teammates. Baneful Bunker frees up the need for a Dark-resistant Pokemon. Baneful Bunker also helps scouting choice-locked Pokemon such as Galarian Darmanitan and the aforementioned Ash-Greninja, as well as Z-moves from the likes of Aegislash, Tornadus-T, and Dragapult. Haze is another option over Toxic which prevents Toxapex from becoming setup fodder for several Pokemon, such as Aegislash and Mega Charizard X. The given EV spread in tandem with a Calm nature allows Toxapex to primarily check Ash-Greninja, in addition to multiple other threats such as Tornadus-T, Volcarona, and Mega Charizard Y. Alternatively, a 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD EV spread may be used in order to pivot into Galarian Darmanitan more reliably, as well as safely check the likes of Mega Lopunny and Choice Scarf Kartana. Choice Scarf Kartana's really never a deciding factor between whether to run physically defensive or specially defensive Toxapex. A different example like Bisharp would make more sense. You could also just leave it at Galarian Darmanitan and Mega Lopunny, as those are really the most important Pokemon you'll be running physically defensive Toxapex for.

Toxapex fits best on balance teams that benefit from its ability to check a wide range of threats while also providing Toxic Spikes support. Physically defensive Tangrowth and Hippowdon have great synergy along with Toxapex, as they are able to check dangerous physical attackers such as Mega Metagross, Garchomp, and Landorus-T. Tangrowth also forms a potent Regenerator core along with Toxapex, and both appreciate its ability to absorb Toxic Spikes and Toxic from the likes of opposing Toxapex and Chansey. Steel-types such as Corviknight, Aegislash, and Magearna can check specific dangerous Psychic-types such as Mega Metagross, Mega Alakazam, and Tapu Lele. In return, Toxapex provides them with a sturdy check to Fire-types. "Fire-types" is too broad, considering that Toxapex is a mediocre check to the most prominent ones, being Heatran and Rotom-H. Notably, Corviknight also provides Toxapex with an immunity to Ground-type attacks from the likes of Garchomp, Landorus-T, and Gliscor. I didn't know Toxapex became immune to Ground when paired with Corviknight. This phrasing is very vague and beats around the bush. Just say that Corviknight checks those Pokemon. Pokemon that resist Dark-type attacks, such as Clefable and Hydreigon, can assist Toxapex in fully checking Ash-Greninja. You should definitely add Magearna. Pokemon that benefit from Toxic Spikes, such as Mega Metagross, Heatran, and Ash-Greninja have a much easier time breaking through their checks. In return, they are able to offset the passivity that Toxapex brings with it due to their offensive presence. This really isn't relevant. Double Dance Reuniclus is another notable mention, as Toxic Spikes allows it to outlast Dark-types. In turn, it can use Pokemon drawn in by Toxapex, such as Clefable and Gliscor, as setup fodder.

Baneful Bunker may be utilized over Toxic in order to check Ash-Greninja as reliably as possible and punish the likes of Mega Medicham and Dracovish. I think U-turn spam from Pokemon like GDarm and Tornadus-T is also worth mentioning. It can also help with scouting Choiced mons like Tapu Lele. Baneful Bunker also helps scouting choice-locked Pokemon such as Galarian Darmanitan and the aforementioned Ash-Greninja, as well as reducing the damage of Z-moves from the likes of Aegislash, Tornadus-T, and Dragapult. Haze is another option over Toxic which prevents Toxapex from becoming setup fodder for several Pokemon, such as Aegislash and Mega Charizard X. Physically defensive Tangrowth and Hippowdon have great synergy along with Toxapex, as they are able to check dangerous physical attackers such as Mega Metagross, Garchomp, and Landorus-T. I think its worth mentioning Whirlwind Hippowdon‘s ability to shuffle Pokemon and poison them, while letting it stave off Pokemon like Pain Split Rotom-H or SubDD Dragapult that use Pex as setup fodder. They also help with Clefable. In return, Toxapex provides them with a switchin to Fire-type attacks from the likes of Volcarona and Mega Charizard Y. Notably, Corviknight can also check dangerous Ground-types such as Garchomp, Gliscor, and Landorus-T. If forgoing Baneful Bunker or fully investing into physical defense, Pokemon that resist Dark-type attacks, such as Clefable, Magearna, and Hydreigon can assist Toxapex in fully checking Ash-Greninja. Hydreigon also provides a useful Ground immunity and can take on Heatran and Rotom-H. Pokemon that benefit from Toxic Spikes, such as Mega Metagross, Heatran, and Ash-Greninja have a much easier time breaking through their checks. I think Mega Lopunny is also a worthwhile mention, as its Fake Out accumulates additional poison. Double Dance Reuniclus is another notable mention, as Toxic Spikes allows it to outlast Dark-types. In turn, it can use Pokemon drawn in by Toxapex, such as Clefable and Gliscor, as setup fodder.
