Finally got around to doing something I've been planning to do for a while. Introducing TNM's review of STAAAB/SNM players!
In this post I will be going over some of the people that signed up for these 2 metas (not including people who signed up for all tiers) in order to
likewhore highlight some lesser known players and assist managers in planning their draft. Some people have asked not to be mentioned, whereas others I simply do not know enough about, so I apologise to anyone who I didn't mention here.
1) The OM big names:
Andyboy, Chazm and Jrdn.
I don't think I need to say much here, everyone knows all three of em are very good players with a lot of results in OM tournaments, so I don't think they will have any trouble adjusting to the mashed up versions of their preferred metas.
2) The CVC/TPP 1 starters:
Manu, RICEMAN, Pokeart, Nakeeb, Tectonic, GardeLame (Quairo), LTG.
I think most managers are familiar with these players from previous plaza and plaza adjacent team tours, so I'm not gonna talk too much about them. They all had solid results in their previous tours and should be solid this time around as well. Nakeeb and Tect played MNMTS previously, but I expect them to adjust to SNM easily enough. Notably, both Manu and Rice are in
playoffs of an
unofficial STAAABmons tournament I've been hosting (STAAAB RTC). As for Tect, he also had a very good run in last year's OMPL (5-1) and is currently in finals of Gen7 MNM open (for OM classic).
3) The less known players:
-
Aloopuriza. I know Aloo is well known in the plaza community, but I wanted to highlight him as a STAAAB player in particular, since I don't know if people realise he has experience playing it. He has picked it up nicely in the past and has been playing in a STAAAB Draft League where he's had very impressive builds, which I expect to see him carry over to the standard STAAAB tier as well.
-
Omegadudedi (Gilgamesh). Omega joined mashups sometime around CVC (where he also played, altho I think he was a sub) if I recall correctly and has picked them up pretty quickly. He's been very succesful in STAAAB and the same STAAAB Draft League that I mentioned above as well.
-
PokaPK. A very recent addition to the mashups community, Poka has quickly climbed up the mashups tour leaderboard. He seems to enjoy building and is a solid player as well, so he should be a good pickup for any of the two mashup tiers.
- Derpeddeath. Derp is a solid mashup player and builder with a unique building style. He played in CVC so this won't be his first team tour. I don't know much about his SNM prowess as I haven't been playing it much lately but he has a good understanding of the STAAAB metagame and should do well there.
-
Joey aka Fabwooloous. I know all of the managers know Joey as well, but he's also a pretty good STAAAB player. He made playoffs in STAAAB RTC and actually indirectly created No Retreat Cobalion when he beat me with Clangorous Soul Duraludon with Steel Beam + Body press in a practice game, which inspired me to use the same set on Cobalion. He also played MNMTS for the scrafties in CVCTT, so he has experience playing MNM mashups as well.
- Don Vascus. Don is also a new face in mashups, but he seems to enjoy STAAAB in particular. He has been very active recently and even got first place in the race for playoffs of the STAAAB RTC, so I expect him to do well if drafted.
- InvalidOS. IOS provided good building support for the scrafties in CVCTT. He has good experience playing both STAAAB and SNM so you should definitely keep an eye out for him.
-
Mega Metaboss (lph). I've started seeing lph in mashups earlier this year and he seems to have taken a liking to STAAAB. I think he has a background in BH as well, which should help him adjust to the STAAAB metagame when playing it in this tour.
-
Dylanronpa. Dylan is the newest Mashups driver and has been a mainstay there for at least a year. I don't remember playing vs him in SNM (but thats again probably because I haven't played it much recently) but he's good at STAAAB and he also made playoffs of the RTC.
-
Snafutari. The SNM tier leader himself. He'd probably prefer to play SNM but he has played STAAAB in the past and is good at both building and playing. Notably, he has a soft spot for a certain playstyle that a lot of people despise, which can be a big edge in a tournament setting.
-
Shion Shadows. Shion has been focusing on SNM alot lately, and is probably one of the people in mashups who has the best understanding of this relatively underdeveloped metagame, so he should definitely be someone to consider.
-
K3ppr. The Mono goat who I didn't even realise signed up to play SNM. I haven't seen him much in mashups, but he has dipped into OMs in the past and done quite well, so this should not be much different.
-
FreezShocka. Freez was a manager in CVCTT where he learned a bit of STAAAB and MNMTS and has been learning SNM lately as well, I think he is a great pickup especially if he signed up for other stuff as well.
-
Richard Pepper. While I don't know him personally, I've seen him win a couple of roomtours in Plaza as well as mashups, which impressed me considering I haven't seen him play mashups that much before TPP was announced. Definitely someone to keep an eye out for.
This is it for my review, hope this helps. Now give me my likes you bastards.
