Trick Room + Rain = Awesomeness?

Trick Room + Rain!

I love Trick Room and I love Politoed, so why not try to make a hybrid team of TR with a little bit of rain? I battle competitively with my friends but we DO NOT use Legendary's, so please do not suggest any if you decide to leave feedback. This is my first attempt at this team so bare with me but leave constructive criticism if you want to! Thanks guys enjoy!

Changes will be made in GREEN

He who makes it rain

186.png

Kyle (Politoed) @ Leftovers
Nature:Sassy (+SpD -Spe)
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP/130 Def/126 SpD

-Scald
-protect
-Perish Song
-Focus Blast

The summoner of infinite rain! Politoed. I went with a defensive version of him because his STAB Scald will be getting a rain boost plus a 30% chance of burn. Perish Song is to prevent certain sweepers from setting up, while Focus Blast is to hit those pesky Steel types.Changed Toxic to Protect (thanks Asek) because I will mainly going for burns with Scald, and also can be used to scout.. Mainly, his purpose is to set up the rain and be as bulky is possible just incase the rain goes away...(Ninetails, TTar, Hippowdon...I'm watching you).

The Trick Room Setters

233-frame1.png

Orville (Porygon2) @ Eviolite
Nature: Sassy (+SpD -Spe)
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SpD

-Thunder
-Recover
-Ice Beam
-Trick Room

Pretty standard TR move set. I can switch in this guy to basically anything and know I can take a hit like a champ, set up TR, and then Recover the damage taken on this switch. Porygon2 has always been bulky, but with Eviolite, he is one of the best walls in the game (not counting Legendary's). I Changed Tbolt to Thunder because of its 100% accuracy in the rain (thanks imabanana). Paired with Ice Beam, the coverage is superb, and 105 base Special Attack isn't bad either. Not much more to say about this guy except he is a BITCH to take down.

356-frame1.png

Lloyd (Dusclops) @ Eviolite
Nature: Relaxed (+Def -Spe)
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/252 SpD/4 Def

-Trick Room
-Pain Split
-Will-O-Wisp
-Night Shade

My 2nd Trick Roomer and yet another serious wall thanks to Eviolite. With outstanding 40/130/130 Defenses PLUS Eviolite boost, this guy is a freaking tank! Another basic TR move set that works wonders. Dusclops has pretty weak Offenses, so Night Shade is his only real attacking move that deals 50-100 damage every time (based on your level). Will-O-Wisp is for crippling any physical attackers, and Pain Split is for recovery. Dusclops also picks up the Fighting weakness I have for Porygon2. They work very well together those two.

437-frame1.png

Brian (Bronzong) @ Leftovers
Nature: Relaxed (+Def -Spe)
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/152 Atk/8 Def/96 SpD

-Trick Room
-Gyro Ball
-Light Screen
-Stealth Rock

Bronzong is my hazard setter and 3rd Trick Roomer. His great typing allows him to switch in to most attacks and take a hit and set up TR or Rocks. Bronzong works great in the rain too. Levitate gives him immunity to Ground moves, leaving him with only 1 weakness (Fire), which is halved in the rain! Basically leaving Bronzong with zero weaknesses and plenty of resistances thanks to his secondary Steel typing. Gyro Ball is a solid STAB move, and with a negative nature, 0 IVs and 0 EVs in Speed...it's gonna destroy. Light screen is just a last slot filler move to help out those less fortunate in the Special Defense area.

The Sweepers

342-frame1.png

Eric (Crawdaunt) @ Life Orb
Nature: Brave (+Atk -Spe)
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 Atk/132 HP/124 SpD

-Waterfall
-Crunch
-Superpower
-Swords Dance

I freaking love this guy. 120 base attack stat, Brave nature, STAB+Rain boosted Waterfall, and...Adaptability. Anything who doesn't resist this beast is going to get hurt. Bad. Waterfall and Crunch are his main sources of power thanks to his ability granting him 2x STAB boost instead of 1.5x normally. Swords Dance is there incase I'm predicting a switch. I changed Knock Off to Superpower (thanks Asek and BlueHoundoom) so he won't be completely walled by other Steel types. This guy is a monster.

366-frame1.png

Candace (Clamperl) @ DeepSeaTooth
Nature: Quiet (+SpA -Spe)
Ability: Shell Armor
EVs: 252 SpA/252 HP/4 SpD

-Surf
-Ice beam
-Protect
-Hidden Power[Grass]

Beware the Almighty power of Candace! Do not underestimate this gal because while holding DeepSeaTooth, her special attack stat is doubled! Making her special attack a base of 148 + Quiet nature and 252 SpA EVs. Virtually unstoppable while TR+Rain is up thanks to her low speed and negative nature. Devastating anything in its path. Clamperl is like the special attacking version of Marowak (another one of my favorite TR sweepers), but even more powerful thanks to the rain. Surf and Ice Beam together are amazing, while Protect is for scouting and anyone thinking they can use priority moves. Hidden Power Grass is for any Water type that thinks they can switch in safely or for Water Absorbers. If you are not prepared for this all-out beast, you will forever be in pain.

Well, that's it guys. I won my first battle today (5-0). Let me know what you guys think I should change around or substitute for better options! Thanks alot!

Interesting concept however Trick Room tends not to work unless 5 or 6 members carry it. if you are really into the whole rain thing then i suggest a Lapras or hydration Vaporeon over your current Crawdaunt (it was my fav pokemon b4 i started comp battling). Lapras has access to Waterfall and a decent powered Ice Shard. A curse set with rest means you can be less reliant on TR and Lapras' defenses can shrug off things like Starmie's thunderbolt. Even a shell smash cloyser would be decent due to its fairly lack-luster speed. If you ditch the rain then a TR Reuniclus can tear holes through just about anything coupled with a life orb boost. Escavalier can also deal out balling STABs. Honestly though, Trick Room is a tried and tested play-style with little success.

Are you serious about Clamperl? This thing just can not function in OU. I would recommend Shell Smash Cloyster or Gorebyss instead. Both can work as a sweeper. Even better is Starmie so you can get Rapid Spi. And a great special attacker.

Small suggestion SuperPower/ Brick Break > Knock Off on Crawdaunt. You are otherwise completely walled by emploeon and others. SuperPower is the superior option but if you hate having to switch out W/O having to SD Brick Break is better. Also try Protect over Toxic on Politoed because you will mainly be going for Burns with Scald and Protect lets you scout what moves the opponent is running as well as offering an extra turn of Leftovers recovery and a potential extra round of burn damage

Dude, they are using a Trick Room team so why would you use a Shell Smasher or even Starmie? It's pointless for they will be slow in the Trick Room. With proper support (which they have), Clamperl is functional in OU if used right.
But yeah, I agree with giving Crawdaunt Superpower over Knock Off, it will help it to take down Pokes like Ferro.
Hope I helped and I love your team!

First of all, Porygon 2 should use Thunder instead of Thunderbolt. I notice that you only have 2 offensive Pokemon. If you switch Porygon 2's Defense IVs with Special Attack EVs it would improve the offensive defensive balance on your team. I have used Trick Room teams before and 3 Trick Room users on a team is a good number. One last thing is your Duclops EVs and Nature, this EV spread works better: EVs: 136 HP / 120 Def / 252 SDef.Since Dusclops relies on pain split for recovery it is wasteful to max out its HP EVs. Also Sassy is better than Relaxed since you are using more special defense EVs than defense EVs Sassy nature will give it more points than Relaxed. I use Trick Room Dusclops so I know this EV spread and nature works

Dude clamperl swept an entire OU team today. one hitted Multiscale Dnite, Scizor, and KOd an eviolite porygon2 with rocks up. While holding DeepSeaTooth this things special attack is extremely powerful and if it gets switched in properly with TR up, it can destroy things. and it's a Trick Room team so fast pokemon wont work in my team...shell smash would be pointless and starmie would be slower than most pokemon while TR is up...

Thanks imabanana, I will definitely put those ideas into consideration...my Porygon2 has been pretty solid with the EVs I gave him already but I will try giving him more SpA. And I will do the same for Dusclops

whoever wrote the analysis for clamperl is a bellend. totally obnoxious write up.

this team seems really interesting though, let us know how it works. rain dance over light screen for bronzong as back up if/when politoed goes down. you really need rain for your sweepers to muscle through stuff. sd kabutops is another potential consideration but i like crawdaunt.

Haha I wrote the analysis of Clamperl...kind of as a joke because it's such a random pokemon. But She really did sweep pretty much an entire OU team with surf in the rain. I will consider Rain Dance on Bronzong, but I tend to keep Politoed alive atleast til the end of the match. Thanks for the input though man

ahh my dude haha, its too much. especially when i do genuinely want to know what its counters are. but i can imagine a double stab surf from 540 sp atk is good yeah, clamperls an ace tr sweeper.

Lol only you and one other person agreed with me that she can absolutely be used in OU, given the right protection and set up. OHKO'd a Multiscale Dragonite with Ice Beam haha. But yeah, I understand how people would probably like to see its counters and whatnot

clearly its very, very niche but you cant argue with 900 sp atk after one boost.

What is the purpose of doing a RMT without testing the team?

This is a no brain Trick room team which is very bad. Yon don't even know how to use trick room user plus you are weak to most of the Pokemon in the metagame.

Trick room doesn't work like this : " I use trick room and switch into a sweeper " when I see the team, It is what I see in your mind. Yes, because your sweeper are crawdaunt and Clamperl, they both can't take a hit during the switch otherwise they die.

Trick room teams have to be offensive except maybe for one Pokémon in the team. Tentacruel@ toxic spikes says hello to your team. Choice spe Politoead OHKO 5 of your Pokemon. Nattorei walls all your team. Rotom-W will be a huge pain etc etc. Legendary or not this team is not competitive and it can't be even fun since you will be able to do nothing on the ladder.

Sry if I'm so rude :(

It's all good man I need the criticism, but I do have to disagree with some of the things you said...this team has won me 3 games in a row against all completely OU teams. Porygon2 nd Dusclops do work, and I can cripple Ferrothorns with Will-O-Wisp and then night shade if I need to or switch in crawdaunt with superpower. Yes, alot of my pokemon are UU and RU, but that makes it even better when I 5-0 and 4-0 OU teams. Clamperl is a monster in the rain and when TR is up...Iv'e been doing Trick Room for a while and know the play style well. No I havn't faced any Rotoms with this team or Tentacruels but Iv'e come out on top against threats like Swords Dance Scizor and Gliscors, and Muliscale Dnites.

Thank you for taking it easy.

I don't criticize the fact that you are playing RU, NU etc but as you said, you won 3 games but if your are new in the ladder you will fight Noob ( not the pejorative one ). You can't pass Ferrothorn but you can try to tank it with Dusclops, it is different. Supperpower is not an OHKO and Ferro outspeed you under Trick room.

Sure you are able to won 5-0, 4-0 but it is also possible to 6-0 you with common threat. You can't say " under TR I'm invincible " because you are never sure to be able to place it.

I also know Clamperl is a good sweeper but the first Pokémon who resists to it will kill it. And, you absolutly need TR to sweep otherwise it will be totaly useless.

And to conclude, if I rate your team it is because I know too much about Trick room teams. You can't play them depending only of the trick room otherwise the first Taunter or the first sweeper will destroy you.

If you really want to play Pokemon such as Clamperl or Crawdaunt ( no defense Pokémon ) you need to plce them safely. I recommend you to play Bronzong with normal gem and Explosion. Then you will be able to OHKO someone and to place one of your Big sweeper for 3 turns.

You need to put Ice beam on Crawdaunt over Sword dance because you need to sweep during 3 turns. You don't need any EVs in Spe attack since Ice beam is here For Dragonite and Salamence only and kill them with SR ( not sure Waterfall kill them under rain ).

Okay, since this is a Trick Room team I'll help you out.

Since Trick Room teams need to be able to hit hard in 3 turns and be able to take a hit.

The first thing you need to change is your Politoed's Evs. I would recommend this set

Politoed @ Leftovers / Choice Specs
Evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Sp Atk
Quiet Nature (+SpAtk, -Spe)
Hydro Pump / Surf
Ice Beam
Focus Blast
HIdden Power Grass

Here your Politoed is a better check to the other weather starters. With Hydro Pump even in the Sun you can OHKO 0/4 Ninetails, and KO 252/216 Scizor. Scizor being a huge threat to Rain teams. It also functions well under Trick Room to get some surprise KOs. Ice Beam is necessary for Dragons, especially Dragonite who loves the rain. Focus Blast is for Tyranitar, but you won't be KO Tyranitar, but you will 2HKO him. Now I suggested either Leftovers or Choice Specs. Now Choice Specs isn't good under Trick Room b/c you will be forced to use one move, but its power boosted. Leftovers lets your Politoed gets som much needed health back.

Clamperl IS TOO FRAILE!!!!!!! IT WILL HARDLY EVER GET A CHANCE TO GET INTO THE FIELD!
So to suggested a Magnezone in replace of Clamperl. He truly abuses the RAIN WITH ITS STAB THUNDER!

Magnezone @ Life ORb
Evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpAtk
Quiet Nature
Thunder
Flash Cannon
Hidden Fire / Hidden Power Ice
Volt Switch

With this set, you can spam THUNDER with perfect accuracy thanks to Politoed. Flash Cannon is just a filler, to get some STAB damage, Steel isn't the best typing. Now if you choose to put Hidden Power on Magnezone you will lose is power, but you still be 2HKO ferrothorn and Scizor. If you put Hidden Power Ice you get BoltBeamcoverage which is god for hitting more pokemon. with Life Orb Magnezone will truly abuse the Rain and Trick Room

Now I don't like Porygon2, b/c he doesn't help your team in the rain, and you really only need 2 Pokemon that can set up Trick Room. So I suggest switching Porygon2 for Latios. Now you might be saying Latios doesn't work in Trick Room. He wil be your pokemon that fits outside of Trick Room. B/c Trick Room won't always be up, and you need a fast pokemon to handle the OU tier. Here is the standard Latios set for revenge killing.
Latios @ Choice Scarf / Expert Belt
Timid Nature
Evs: 4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spe
Draco Meteor
Surf
Psyshock
Recover

Now with this thing being your revenge killer. Now you Surf you can abuse the Rain very well. Now Recover is good move to gain some HP back

Hopefully my rate has helped your team. And a side note, outside of the Rain, 4 your teammates will be KOed by Volcarona. so be careful.
