Introduction:

After looking on Smogon I saw a Salamence set I really liked and thought I should make a team that could use it. About a day later Gamestop was giving out Jirachi so I wanted to make a team using both of them.

Team Detail:

Gliscor (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 Spe
Jolly nature
- Earthquake
- Roost
- Stealth Rock
- U-turn
I wanted a decent durable lead, this guy came up after I decided that I wanted to use Choice Scarf Tyranitar to handle Latias or any trick user so Jirachi could sweep. I found this set on the forums (forgot who) and liked that it uses U-turn so I can switch out from those leads I have no chance from and break Sashes. Taunt to shut down slower leads and other threats throughout the battle and Earthquake for STAB.

Salamence (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 80 Atk / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Naive nature
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Draco Meteor
- Earthquake

I saw the Mixed Dancer set and thought it was interesting so I wanted to use it. Switch in Salamence on something I know that will switch out, DD once and pick from my options. If its a physical wall or something that would easily be OHKO by Draco Meteor I use it so save myself from being locked in to Outrage. I choose Earthquake over Fire Blast due to accuracy, the fact that Earthquake benefits from a +1 DD, and Fire Blast most likely will not OHKO a opposing steel type after a Draco Meteor was used. I choose Naive over Naughty since I thought the extra speed would allow me to outrun most Choice Scarf revenge killers after a DD, let me know if I'm wrong here. Mostly used to cause as much damage as possible in early game unless I feel I can save it.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 Spe
Bold nature
- Calm Mind
- Wish
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic

Jirachi is my late game sweeper and also one of my pokemon who give wish support. The reason I choose the Calm Mind + Wish set is so I can heal both Salamence and Gliscor if need be since most sets usually carry Roost for both of them, and for Jirachi to heal itself. Choose Psychic over Flash Cannon since I feel my team can handle Tyranitar and Latias. Nothing much else I can say since its pretty standard.

Tyranitar (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
Jolly nature
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit
- Superpower

I starting to think I rely on him to check a lot of problems my team has but it was originally chosen so it could handle Latias and all Trick users who would ruin my Jirachi's sweep. So to make sure I can handle Latias and most ghost types Pursuit was used, while Stone Edge and Crunch are there for STAB. I choose since I lacked a Fighting type, it OHKO Heatran and other Tyranitars making it cover most pokemon who would own Jirachi. Another Standard set.

rotomheat.png

Rotom-H @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Overheat
- Shadowball
- Trick

I wanted something that can check Scizor and decided to use Rotom-H since Ive used him already. Wasn't sure if I should use Rest talk set or Trick set but in the end I decided trick might be useful for those pokemon I don't quiet cover locking them into one move forcing them to switch out. Thunderbolt for STAB, Overheat to handle Scizor and other steels and WoW to at least cripple Tyranitar if I get trapped. Unsure about the Nature but I usually go with speed in the end.

vaporeon.png

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 188 HP / 252 Def / 68 Spe
Bold nature
- Surf
- Wish
- Protect
- Toxic/ Ice Beam

I couldn't think of a six pokemon for the longest, and I really didn't want to go complete stall with Skarmory or Forretress so I decided to just add another with supporter. Surf for STAB, Wish so I don't have to reveal Jirachi to early if I need to heal up anyone and project to make sure it can heal itself. I'm not sure about the last move slot at the moment, I'm leaning toward Toxic so I can cripple other bulky pokemon but I might need Ice Beam for Dragon types.

This is my second competitive team with the first being a Petaya Empoleon team which was pretty linear. Open to any changes.

I see you are quite prone to being swept by Dragon Dance Salamence. First off, your team is a delight for Salamence to get that crucial Dragon Dance in, where it will then smash your team to bits. Salamence easily walls your Gliscor, and it also gets a free Dragon Dance if your Tyranitar gets locked into Superpower, or if your Rotom gets locked into Overheat. To make matters worse, if Salamence is carrying a Lum Berry, Vaporeon can no longer shorten its sweep with Toxic, so there's another Pokemon that is Salamence set-up bait. Finally, Jirachi can't do that much significant damage to Salamence while it boosts, and that extra damage can easily be negated with Roost. Overall, Salamence can set-up on almost all of your team and considering you don't a way of revenge-killing it, you are totally forked if it gets that boost.

I highly suggest that you replace your Tyranitar with a Scizor to alleviate this problem.

Scizor @ Choice Band | Adamant
160 HP / 180 Atk / 168 SpD
U-turn / Bullet Punch / Superpower / Pursuit

Now, you said you picked Tyranitar to counter Latias, ghost types and other Trick users that can wreck a Jirachi sweep. Scizor can easily fufill the same role your Tyranitar played, whilst dealing with Dragon Dance Salamence, thanks to Bullet Punch. After Stealth Rock damage and Life Orb recoil, Salamence will be within KO range for a Choice Band boosted Bullet Punch. In regards to how Scizor does Tyranitar's job, it can easily switch into Latias and most Ghost-types and instantly threaten a KO with U-turn and Bullet Punch respectively. Should they switch-out, Scizor can easily use Pursuit to KO them. Scizor also has nice synergy with your Salamence. Salamence can use Draco Meteor to nail Rotom-A, Zapdos and Gyarados and Earthquake to defeat Heatran and Magnezone, all of whom are common Scizor switch-ins. In return, the majority of Scarfers that outspeed Salamence after a Dragon Dance are weak to Dark, thus Pursuit bait for Scizor.

I believe your Gliscor set can use some changes. I would suggest you run Roost over Taunt. The main reason why one would want to not run Roost on Gliscor is because they handle Lucario perfectly well otherwise. Now, with Tyranitar gone, your only good counter to Lucario is your Rotom-A, who is weak to Pursuit. Besides, Taunt isn't very helpful for lead Gliscor imo. Many of the leads you would be Taunting can badly injure or OHKO Gliscor with their offensive moves (Roserade can Leaf Storm, Heatran can Fire Blast, Swampert can Ice Beam). Metagross and Tyranitar can easily switch out after being Taunted and have enough bulk to come in again to set up Stealth Rock then, so Taunt isn't very useful unless you ever need to stall out Breloom or non-Ice Beam Blissey, whom Salamence and Scizor handle well.

I'll like you to try Shadow Ball over Will-O-Wisp on your Rotom. Considering you are running two non-damaging moves on your Rotom, I don't see Rotom properly fufilling the role of revenge killer. If you end up being locked into Will-O-Wisp, you're giving the likes of Heatran, Infernape, Latias and Gengar free switch-ins, where they can then boost in the case of Infernape and Latias or get a free Substitute in the case of Heatran and Gengar. Situations like this should be avoided at all costs. Shadow Ball on the other hand, gives Rotom an alternative STAB, and a good weapon against Latias, Gengar and Cresselia.

Good luck with your team.

Thanks for the help, I'm considering getting rid of Vaporeon in exchange for that Scizor you suggested. In turn I would change my Rotom-H to a standard set Rotom - C since it can handle Swampert and Tyranitar well.

Rotom-C @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 Spe
Bold Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Leaf Storm
- Shadowball
- Will-O-Wisp

Also if I make these changes I think I would require Salamance to have Fire Blast over Earthquake.

With the need of Tyranitar being a revenge killer not as high I was thinking a modified BaitTar set would be good:

Tyranitar (M) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 48 SpA / 208 Spe
Hasty nature
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit
- Flamethrower

What do you think of these changes? I'm considering starting from scratch on a new team.

Well, you wanted my word on your changes, so here you are.

As I mentioned in my rate, I wanted Tyranitar to be replaced, due to its similar nature to Scizor as a dedicated Pursuiter, but replacing Vaporeon ain't too bad either. Vaporeon is mainly used for teams that desire Wish support and a good Gyarados counter. However, you already have this in the forms of Jirachi and Rotom-A. The main problem with giving up Vaporeon is that you lose a Water resist, so your only Water resist now is Salamence, meaning Water-types can wear down Salamence and once it's dead, proceed to Surf your team to death. Just some food for thought.

I don't think Rotom-A's set should be changed. Since the set you're planning on changing to doesn't have any healing move, you're pretty vulnerable to Dragon Dance Gyarados if Rotom-A is weakened beforehand. Keeping the Choice Scarf lets Rotom-A effectively revenge kill any Gyarados out there. It also provides extra assurance against Swords Dance Lucario if Gliscor dies. If you want to change Rotom-A's set, consider putting Vaporeon back in to deal with Gyarados.

Fire Blast over Earthquake on your Salamence is pretty stupid. You're not going to be sweeping much with Dragon Dance and only one physical move. You didn't even specify why you're considering Fire Blast over Earthquake, there's no real point. It also means that Salamence is walled by Heatran, who could cause a bit of trouble if you choose to forego Vaporeon.

I don't really have much objections to your change to Bait Tar. I'd like you to consider a bulkier spread of 156 HP / 100 Atk / 60 SpA / 192 Spe with a Brave nature though, just so you can make better use of Tyranitar's high Special Defense.
