#Saburo
Film:
Titan A.E. (2000)
Genre: Animation, Action, Adventure, Family, Sci-Fi
IMDb Synopsis: A young man learns that he has to find a hidden Earth ship before an enemy alien species does in order to secure the survival of humanity.

#Soft Flex
Film:
Dark Waters
Genre: Biography, Drama, History
Description: A legal drama about the role of attorney Rob Bilott in uncovering the misdeeds of the DuPont corporation, particularly in regards to their role in the production of Teflon for nonstick cookware. Some good performances all around from the cast, although a few odd interactions here and there (though this may be chalked up to the writing moreso than the actual events). It's definitely had me giving thought to the composition of some of my older pots and pans.

@ Buffy
Film:
Joker (2019)
Genre: Drama, Comic Book
Description: Deeply, unapologetically dark, Phoenix's portrayal is so unique and I honestly could not picture anyone else in this role. The film is able to show the Joker in such a completely different way than all other film iterations, while still being able to tie the character into the classic world we all know him from. A truly dark and in some ways very disturbing film, this is just beautifully done.

@ The Benz Mafia
Film:
One, Two, Three (1961)
Genre: Screwball Comedy
IMDb Synopsis: In West Berlin during the Cold War, a Coca-Cola executive is given the task of taking care of his boss' socialite daughter.

@ Towelie
Film:
Arrival (2016)
Genre: Drama, Sci-Fi
IMDb Synopsis: A linguist works with the military to communicate with alien lifeforms after twelve mysterious spacecraft appear around the world.

chunko
Film:
Black Hawk Down (2001)

Television

%czim
Show:
The Legend of Vox Machina (2022-)

But when the kingdom is threatened by evil, this boisterous crew realizes that they are the only ones capable of restoring justice. What began as a simple payday is now the origin story behind Exandria's newest heroes.

Fun fact: Based on an actual D&D campaign by Critical Role.

#Saburo
Film:
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006)
Genre: Crime, Drama, Fantasy
IMDb Synopsis: Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, born with a superior olfactory sense, creates the world's finest perfume. His work, however, takes a dark turn as he searches for the ultimate scent.

#Soft Flex
Film:
Top Gun: Maverick
Genre: Action, Drama
Description: Tom Cruise is back with the sequel to his hit 1986 classic, and amidst the many too-late sequels to 80's/90's top shelf blockbusters this film stands apart as one that does everything right. The script is tight, the action is excellent, nostalgia is plentiful and none of the events or character moments feel unearned in my opinion.

The story is relatively simple: Maverick is brought in (reluctantly) to train a new batch of cocky pilots in advance of a high stakes mission and time is of the essence. You don't technically need to have seen the first to enjoy this, but you REALLY should - the more minor story elements will hit stronger notes if you remember what happened in the original, though they do subtly remind you at times. I also highly recommend seeing this on the big screen if at all possible.

@ Buffy
Film:
The Kids Are All Right
Genre: Drama, Comedy
Description: Julianne Moore and Annette Benning star as lesbians trying to raise two teenagers (Mia Wasikowska and Josh Hutcherson) in Los Angeles in a whirlwind of a film. Filled with emotions and themes that hit so close to reality, the casting is spot on for all the characters (Mark Ruffalo stars as well) and the writing and direction are superb, too. The film also strikes a perfect balance between the comedy and drama bits, with each one constantly echoing off the other to weave the story into a beautifully finished project.

@ The Benz Mafia
Film:
Courage Under Fire (1996)
Genre: Drama, Mystery, War
IMDb Synopsis: A U.S. Army officer, despondent about a deadly mistake he made, investigates a female chopper commander's worthiness for the Medal of Honor.

@ Towelie
Film:
Navalny (2022)
Genre: Documentary, Biography
IMDb Synopsis: Follows the man who survived an assassination attempt by poisoning with a lethal nerve agent in August 2020. During his months-long recovery he makes shocking discoveries about the attempt on his life and decides to return home.

Film: Crush (2022)
Genre: Comedy, Romance
Description: Crush follows the life of a young girl named Paige whose senior year proves to be so much more than she can handle as she juggles her college essay to Cal Arts, her crushes on AJ and Gabriella Campos, and proving that she is not the person who has been vandalising the school.

PS Username: Alyvia

Film:
Booksmart
Genre: Comedy
Description: Two best friends come to realize they've spent their high school years too focused on their education and post-secondary plans and do their best to unwind on the eve of their graduation.

This film plays out similarly to Superbad in a lot of ways, though the jokes allow the film to take on a different tone. It's full of fun characters and great humour, and marks the feature-length directorial debut of Olivia Wilde!

Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

Chris Farley and David Spade star in this road trip/buddy comedy where Tommy (Farley) and his recently deceased father's accountant (Spade) travel across the country in an attempt to save his family's auto parts company. The film is hilarious and features a great supporting cast, and still makes me laugh to this day.

Film:
Basic Instinct
Genre: Drama, Mystery, Thriller
Description: A classic neo-noir film from the early 90's which I finally had the pleasure of crossing off my IMDb watchlist recently after staring at it for years. Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas lead the cast of this spicy thriller full of great acting and misdirects to leave you guessing. I feel like it's been cemented in pop culture mostly due to that scene, but there's plenty more to it than that, especially if you're a mystery/thriller buff!

#Soft Flex
Show:
Blue Mountain State
Genre: Comedy, Sports
Description: This raunchy sitcom takes place at the titular top football college, but despite being a gridiron juggernaut, we see very little of the actual game as the show's focus doubles down on the shenanigans and debauchery on and around campus! The cast is composed primarily of the team's top players and coaching staff, including our main character, the uninspired back-up QB who dreams of maintaining a spot on the team by contributing the bare minimum. The true star of the show, however, is top prospect Thad Castle (Alan Ritchson, most recently of Reacher fame on Prime Video) who is the exact opposite in every way: he's a monsoon of energy, charisma and maximum effort at all times and it's hard to take your attention off of him whenever he's in a scene.

@ Buffy
Show:
The Wheel of Time
Genre: Fantasy
Description: This Amazon original is admittedly the first Amazon original I've watched and it is very solid. It starts a bit slow like Game of Thrones, but it does pick up much quicker (by around the second episode) and it is very solid and builds a good foundation for future seasons.

Show: Peacemaker
Genre: Action · Adventure · Comedy · Sc-Fi
Desc: Connected to the events of "The Suicide Squad" (2021) Peacemaker returns home to realize his freedom comes at a price that involves a covert operation known only as project butterfly.

IMDb Description: Set in the shadow of the most magical place on Earth, Moonee and her best friends forge their own adventures, while the adults in their life protect them from the harsh reality that surrounds them.

It's a fun movie to watch as a family!
