Twilight

Does anyone read it? Personally I believe that it is very overrated and overhyped just because its a movie. But I am looking to see your opinions as well.

It was overated before it was a movie because edward is the Perfect Guy ever, nvm mind that he is a Vegtiatian Vampire that sparkles in the daylight if he has just eaten.

Girls who are obessed with this need to be brought down to reality. Half the book is describing how perfect he is or Bella acting love a stupid lovestruck girl

Exactly its VERY stupid. Almost all the girls at my school are in love with Edward and even wear I love Edward Cullen shirts. >_<;;

Some guys, too. D:

Don't get me started on how dumb that book is....Lordy. If vampires existed, THEY WOULD NOT SPARKLE IN THE SUN. They would wither up and die, or at least get some killer sunburn.

If you're a 12 year old girl, sure it's a great book.

It's when grown women like my mom obsess over it...

I liked some parts of the books and hated others.

Parts I liked:
*The background stories of each vampire. I enjoyed the detail.
*The way emotions were described.

Parts I hated:
*Bella. I want to strangle her. Never have I ever come across such a blindly devoted and pitiful character.
*The ending. Way too "and everyone lived happily ever after YAY" for me.
*The vampires had no fangs. Seriously, what the fuck is a vampire without fangs???

Overall, I think if you read the books with a "oh it's just like a fairytale or Disney movie" mentality, then they aren't too horrible. But otherwise, they're way too unrealistic... not in the sense that vampires don't exist, but in the sense that that's just not how relationships work in the real world. And yes, they're overrated and the fantards are annoying.

It's been overrated ever since the book came out, I wonder how it all started...

I did read Twilight, though; I sort-of want to read the other 3 just to say I endured such trial.

I think the think I hate the most from the effing author is how much she repeats in the SAME word at the SAME page thorough the WHOLE book without a minimal change to at least try disguising it or something.

Edit: Fuzzberry, I actually liked how she didn't use the same sun+vampire=? thing, but that doesn't make the book any better...Looking back now, it was probably a way to make a relation between Edward being a fucking jewel.

way too overrated. Stephanie Meyer isn't that good of a writer. it was just a bandwagon most girls jumped on. Why didn't Bella just use garlic to repel all the vampires. Also bella seemed to overthink everything way too much.. i only read the first book might read the second if I am bored over the summer.. the movie probably sucked.. but my one friend told me you're guaranteed to makeout. (only reason he saw it)

I think that it's stupid.
it's not even much of a good book, and the movie was not any better.
Girls only rate the book higher because they can put themselves in the position of bella and create their own little world.

I haven't read it and don't plan to, it just seems dumb to me (despite my liking of science-fiction). I think the crazed girls obsessing over the characters in the novels are strange and hypocritical for making fun of anime-lovers (not that I love anime in the way of wanting to marry characters).

It doesn't help that a few of my friends insist I look like Robert Pattinson (I guess I do in some lights/angles, I see Eli Manning a little bit more myself).

You people really need to understand romance novels a little better. It's not meant to be good writing or realistic characters. It's meant to be, entirely, porn for girls. If it does that well, it's entirely a success. The characters are supposed to be somewhat perfect.

Yeah, because there's no such thing as artistic license. The facts are incontrovertible, since vampires are real and all.

Many authors criticize King's writing style; he isn't exactly a beacon of literature.

Yes, I read Twilight. I went into the first without any preconceived notions of the story or author, completely blind and ignorant... and enjoyed it. Yes, it's directed at female tweeners, but once you get over yourself it's a fun book to read. I'm borrowing them from a co-worker and I'm through the third and will be reading the fourth soon (although I'm an idiot and went on the Wikipedia site and ruined the it for myself).

My only thought (in white, spoiler): I'm with Jacob. Being a grown man who has been in that situation I sympathize with him, plus the fact that the way Bella and Edward fawn all over each other makes me sick.

My girlfriend made me read the first one, but I enjoyed it and stole hers after they came out in succession as soon as she finished them. So if you get over the whole vampires are too cool for romance and don't die in the sun part then I think Twilight can be enjoyed.

the whole fanboy (er girl) culture around the books has kind of ruined it a bit for me though... I liked it better when the first just came out and the only way you knew about Twilight was by word of mouth. Kinda like when you listen to a band before they become "cool" and then they are overrated.

The Steven King link was pretty funny though. Completely shot down the author.

I got that, dude >.>
i was saying that the whole concept of romance novels were dumb, but attacking twilight in particular.

what's with all the hate? is it suddenly cool to hate on a ROMANCE novel written for TEENAGE GIRLS? there's a reason why it's a blockbuster, bestseller, hell, even the soundtrack is popular. whilst it may contain Mary Sue and Gary Stu, there is no doubt that it is popular. I don't claim to be a fan, but man Meyer knows how to write for the right audience. Kudos to her for that.

also Cullen sparkles in the sun. what's next? lush eyelashes in the rain? golden hair when it snows? heh.

oh and for the majority of you haters, grow up. you're no different from the girls that blindly follow Twilight, you blindly follow hating it.

though the movie did have terrible special effects.

jeez.

......
Something i noticed is that only the dumb girls that i know read the book. the smart girls understand that she used every trick in the book to appeal to stupid teenage girls, even if she had to resort to making them feel like "someday, you will meet a vampire and you will fall in love with him and make vampire babies"

...and only dumb guys read comic books and play video games. Shut up before you make a further fool out of yourself.

Are you a fan of the book or something?
"Both Rowling and Meyer, they're speaking directly to young people... The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good."
I trust that king has the right opinion that all she's doing is appealing to the lesser intelligent audience, but writing bad while doing it.

Thing is, Thorns, I read it before anyone told me about it, at least the quality and stuff.

Even the girl that lend me the book, after I was done reading it, told me herself that the writing is all meh, but still a decent read. And she's a fan.

It was later on the hype started building up more until I was able to notice it and stuff.

Edit: I will not deny there are people who will just say Twilight sucks to jump on the bandwagon, though.

Well, overall Twilight was a good series, but extremly overhyped.

I liked....
-----------------

~ The Werewolves, specifically Jacob. His point of view is what made Breaking Dawn interesting.
~ Eclipse's battle scene.
~ The backgrounds of the Cullen's. It developed the story alot.
_____________________________

I disliked....
-----------------

~ The ending to Breaking Dawn. I thought it was like a fairy tale. I mean, seriously, imagine an army coming at you and leaving because you said,"She isn't a full evil person."
~ Edward. Nuff said.
~ The sex scenes....

How would anyone even think that? And what's wrong with an author writing about something that is sure to appeal to people?

I haven't read it, and truthfully I wouldn't really know if it's well written or not, but if people like it that hardly matters.
