Type Optimisation

Status
Not open for further replies.
I know that double posting can be bothersome to some but I will show the botched typing combination by weak Pokémon or those overshadowed with those with better typing combination. This might help out for future slates (if the next slate will be the Nerf Slate).
Bug.png
+
Flying.png
: Yes, Mega Pinsir is OU worthy, but this type combination is locked behind a Mega Evolution when it comes to OU. A normal Pokémon with this typing might be difficult to balance, but having Magic Guard to counter Stealth Rock might work. An Aerilate Pokémon with this typing but instead Special oriented can also works.
Bug.png
+
Poison.png
: Mega Beedrill is UU which is closest to OU, but that is not good enough. A more defensive Bug/Poison Pokémon might work better, but making it more offensive (threatening both Fairy and Dark) similarly to Mega Beedrill can also work.
Bug.png
+
Ground.png
: It was used by Nincada, but alas it evolved into either Bug/Flying and Bug/Ghost, the latter being interesting but locked behind Shedinja, which is a one-hit wonder and difficult to balance because of Wonder Guard. It have potential of great offensive presence.
Bug.png
+
Rock.png
: With Armaldo out of picture and Shuckle yet to be buffed, this typing might work well as either offensive or defensive.
Bug.png
+
Fighting.png
: Pheromosa is banned from OU, and Buzzwole and Mega Heracross aren't viable enough to be fully OU. It have great offensive presence but crippling weak to Flying. We had to make sure we will not make the next Pokémon with this typing too powerful or dangerous like what happened to Pheromosa.
Dark.png
+
Normal.png
: Okay, quite unorthodox and double weakness of Fighting, but it is also immune to both Psychic and Ghost, which in turn have a potential STAB for both Knock Off and Return/Extreme Speed.
Dark.png
+
Flying.png
: Those that have this type is either below OU (Honchkrow), banned from OU (Yveltal) or not this type in here anymore (Mandibuzz). It have physical threat potential, being able to threaten both Psychic and Fighting.
Dark.png
+
Fighting.png
: Have a potential to threaten Steel-type while also able to fight back against most Psychic-type.
Fairy.png
+
Normal.png
: Vanilla Wigglytuff is weak even in PU; now it is a deadly threat with Fairy/Flying and even better Abilities, insane Sp.A stat and three useful moves when used right. Mega Audino is an NU Mega so don't count on this one. With this one out of picture, Fairy + Normal still have the potential of what Wigglytuff could if it wasn't for awful BST: A Pokémon with a very large moveset like a Normal-type and the efficiency of the Fairy-type.
Fairy.png
+
Bug.png
: Have great potential, but Ribombee isn't strong enough to pull its weight. Making it better or find a more suiting Pokémon would be nice.
Fighting.png
+
Fire.png
: Blaziken (both normal and Mega) is banned from OU, and Infernape cannot caught up in OU well. Emboar is now Fire/Rock so don't mind him. This have great offensive potential, but we had to make sure that it will fit in OU without getting too ridiculous. Maybe nerfing the base Blaziken by replacing Speed Boost by something else and some few other adjustment will do it?
Fighting.png
+
Steel.png
: A good Fighting typing that have no worries of both Psychic and Fairy does to taking neutral to them, but Cobalion remains in OU while Mega Lucario is both Mega-locked and banned from OU.
Fighting.png
+
Ghost.png
: Marshadow had been proven too threatening in OU, but I think a more Special oriented or an oddly more bulky one might work well without going overboard.
Ghost.png
+
Grass.png
: This one would work better as a Special sweeper unless if you can prove me otherwise. Ghost/Grass is not really that good of a defensive typing does to five weaknesses.
Ground.png
+
Grass.png
: Now with Torterra is out of picture, I'd like to think that this one works better for a fast sweeper does to only two resistance and one immunity, compared to three weaknesses and a double weakness to Ice.
Ground.png
+
Ghost.png
: Have potential of either physical or special sweeper, and a nice immunity to three types. None of the actual Ground/Ghost can pull their weight well in OU.
Ice.png
+
Water.png
: Works better as a sweeper, since Ice is a bad defensive typing thus weight down Water's resistances.
Ice.png
+
Psychic.png
: Jynx is now Ice/Ghost (while Froslass is Ice/Poison in here beforehand), and it have powerful Special sweeper potential.
Ice.png
+
Rock.png
: Horrid double weakness to Fighting, but being able to be on either Sand team or Hail team would help a lot and make it unpredictable.
Steel.png
+
Ghost.png
: Could work in OU but Aegislash was proven too much and sadly, it got banned. A more reasonable Steel/Ghost will be nice for OU.
Water.png
+
Rock.png
: None of the Water/Rock Pokémon are viable to OU. A crippling 4x weakness to Grass discourage a defensive Pokémon unless if you dare to give it Sap Sipper, and even so I would personally find it better suited to offensive.
Anyone who don't agree with me or that found other Type Combinations that exist but is butched can reply to me.

Other types I'm personally interested in as well include Poison/Flying (maybe something more offensive? Or No Guard Gunk Shot/Hurricane mixed attacker) and Ice/Grass (fast, specially offensive I would think)

Anyway so I think now that we are actually seeing this mons in proper battle, there's going to be a rule to try and limit absurd stat increases like 160 Atk and so on. Something around 130-135 is a good limit. You can do things like 180 Defense but you have to really balance it with lower HP or Atk or something, or say, 160 Ninjask speed but make it have a good weakness to offset that.

For now, let's resume to a normal slate since there are still matches in the Open that are waiting to happen. Then after the tourney is over we can start and nerf some of the busted mons.

So now we go back with the Psychic slate voted in from the last voting slate:

normal.gif

BST: 110 / 60 / 100 / 110 / 130 / 60 | BST: 570 (+20 HP, +20 Def, +20 SpA, +20 SpD)
Abilities: Oblivious / Natural Cure / Magic Bounce
New Moves: Hyper Voice, Slack Off, Volt Switch
Removed Moves: N/A
Justification/Niche: Bulky Trick Room setter. Magic Bounce prevents it from being taunted as well as allowing it to block hazards and status moves. Slack Off provides reliable recovery so it can come in to set Trick Room multiple times. Hyper Voice provides a strong Normal STAB though Oranguru already has a good selection of coverage moves like Focus Blast, Shadow Ball, and Thunderbolt along with Nasty Plot for boosting.
Sample Moveset:
Oranguru @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
IVs: 0 Atk, 0 Spe
Quiet Nature
- Trick Room
- Psychic / Psyshock
- Focus Blast / Shadow Ball / Volt Switch
- Slack Off

Pokemon: Claydol

BST: 70 / 50 / 100 / 130 / 100 / 110 | BST: 570 (+10 HP, -20 Atk, -5 Def, +60 SpA, -20 SpD, +35 Spe)
Abilities: Levitate / Magic Guard
New Moves: Nasty Plot, Recover, Volt Switch
Removed Moves: N/A
Justification/Niche: Offensive spinner. Psychic/Ground isn't a great defensive typing with its 6 weaknesses, but it is an underrated offensive typing which can hit most of the metagame except for some ungrounded types. It also gets Ice Beam, which goes well with Earth Power for great offensive coverage. Nasty Plot and its special attack stat prevent the opponent from taking Claydol lightly, and it now has Recover and a pivoting move in Volt Switch. Levitate gives it more switch in opportunities but Magic Guard allows it to switch freely into any hazard so they can be spun away. If needed, it can also set Stealth Rock too.
Sample Moveset:
Claydol @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Earth Power
- Psychic / Ice Beam
- Recover / Nasty Plot / Volt Switch

BST: 75 / 140 / 70 / 85 / 70 / 130 | BST: 570 (+15 Atk, -40 SpA, +15 Spe)
Abilities: Sturdy / Magic Bounce / Pixilate
New Moves: Swords Dance, Mach Punch, Close Combat
Removed Moves: N/A
Justification/Niche: Suicide lead/fast offensive hazard setter. High speed and attack allow it to outspeed and threaten other leads, and it can set Stealth Rock or boost with Swords Dance. While this Azelf is not a Fairy-type, Pixilate can be used to provide it with powered up Explosions that no type is immune to. Magic Bounce can be used instead to prevent opposing hazards from being set. Swords Dance can make its Explosions scarier to switch into, and it gets Mach Punch and Close Combat as physical Fighting STABs.
Sample Moveset:
Azelf @ Focus Sash / Life Orb
Ability: Magic Bounce / Pixilate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Explosion
- Stealth Rock / Swords Dance
- Mach Punch / Close Combat
- Zen Headbutt / U-turn

BST: 90 Hp (+17)/130 Atk (+35)/80 Def (+18)/80 SpA (-5)/80 SpD (+15)/110 Spe (+25)/570 BST (+105)
Abilities:
Reckless / Sap Sipper / Scrappy (HA)
New Moves: High Jump Kick, Swords Dance & Play Rough
Removed Moves: N/A
Justification: At most of its Pokedex entries is mentioned that posseses psychic powers to distorse space and to create odd sensations to its enemies.
Niche: Stantler now makes good use of its originally horrid offensively typing, with Scrappy now Stantler becomes a threat to be afraid of, with basically unresisted type combination on Zen Headbutt, Return and High Jump Kick in case that you're using Scrappy, Double Edge, Play Raugh and High Jump Kick in case you're going for Reckless.
Stantler @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Scrappy
Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Frustration

Abilities:
Prism Armor / Beast Boost (HA)
New Moves: Nasty Plot, Shadow Ball & Ice Beam.
Removed Moves: N/A
Justification: It's said that Necrozma has lived underground for years and it also learns both Earthquake and Earth Power, the last one being amost exclusive to Ground-types and some other few Pokemon.
Niche: Not gonna lie, Psychic/Ground is a pretty horrid defensive type, but offensively can be really nice, specially if you have 133 SpA, neat coverage options on Shadow Ball, Ice Beam and Heat Wave, set up moves on Nasty Plot and Calm Mind and access to Beasht Boosht to snowball.
Necrozma @ Twisted Spoon / Soft Sand
Ability: Beast Boost / Prism Armor

BST: 110 (+25) / 86 (+30) / 110 (+33) / 50 / 90 (+13) / 98 (+20) | 544 BST
Abilities: Cheek Pouch / Mold Breaker / Huge Power (HA)
New Moves: Zen Headbutt, Psychic Fangs, Sucker Punch
Removed Moves: Quick Attack
Justification/Niche: Diggersby gets better in every area it needs to, becoming a bulky stallbreaker with decent base speed and reasonable base attack boosted by Huge Power. Diggersby gains 2 STAB psychic moves and sucker punch, at the cost of losing the more reliable quick attack.

Pokemon: Unown
Type:
Psychic.png
Normal.png

Stats: 87 (+39) / 87 (+15) / 87 (+39) / 135 (+63) / 87 (+39) / 87 (+39) BST: 570
Abilities: Technician / Unaware / Trace
New Moves: Calm Mind, Synchronoise, Stored Power
Removed Moves: None
Justification/Niche: Redemption. Sure, Unown couldnt get a shot at being pure Psychic, but now it has an Immunity! Able to run a complete moveset sure is something, and Technician boosted Hidden Power is great too! Unaware helps with pokemon who are tearing through the team, and Trace does just about everything else.

Pokemon: Delcatty
Type: Psychic/Normal
BST: 70/65/115/105/105/90 (+50 Def, +50 SpA, +50 SpD)
Abilities: Fur Coat, Dazzling, Serene Grace
New Moves: Psychic, Psyshock, Moonblast
Justification/Niche: A fast bulky pokemon. Delcatty can run a defensive set with fur coat and calm mind.

Pokemon: Hypno
Type: Psychic/Ground
BST: 85/100/70/100/115/100 (+27 Atk, +27 SpA, +33 Spd)
Abilities: Magic Guard, Sand Force, Sand Rush
New Moves: Earthquake, Earth Power, Spikes
Justification/Niche: A mixed Sand Sweeper. Hypno have three very useful abilities. Magic Guard is useful on non-sand teams. Sand Force and Sand Rush gives you more power and speed during sand.

Pokemon: Mienshao
Type: Psychic/Fighting
BST: 65/145/70/95/70/125 (+20 Atk, +10 Def, +10 SpD, +20 Spe)
Abilities: Guts, Regenerator, Sheer Force
New Moves: Zen Headbutt, Parting Shot, Leaf Blade
Justification/Niche: A fast pokemon that can keep up momentum. It can run Guts or Sheer Force for more power or regenerator to stay healthy throughout the battle.

BST:
89 / 124 / 110 (+30) / 95 (+40) / 97 (+17) / 55 (BST: 570 (+87) )
Abilities: Iron Fist / Tinted Lens / No Guard
New Moves: Zen Headbutt, Knock Off, Shore Up
Justification/Niche: Really powerful and bulky user of tinted lens. It has a really good attack stat as well as a usable special attack. It could also utilize no guard with Stone Edge/Dynamic Punch coverage.

Abilities: Thick Fat / Oblivious / Fluffy
New Moves:
Slack Off, Zen Headbutt, Parting Shot
Justification/Niche: Bulky pivot that rely on unpredictability, with three different defensive abilities, each with some advantages.

BST:
80 (+20) / 70 (+10) / 90 (+15) / 60 / 90 (+15) / 130 (+50) (BST: 520 (+110) )
Abilities: Pure Power / Telepathy
New Moves: Close Combat / Wish / Knock Off
Justification/Niche: Fast abuser of Pure Power with great coverage and some utility options.

Pokemon:

Fighting.png

BST: 85 / 83(+10 )/ 115(+45) / 83(+10) / 115 / 89(+22) | (BST 570)
Abilities: No Guard / Unburden / Iron Fist
New Moves: Swords Dance, Inferno, Slack Off
Justification/Niche: A bulky mixed sweeper with 100% accurate hypnosis. With SD you can go either Attack or Special attack since it already knows Nasty Plot. Access to Belly Drum makes an unburden set very scary, while an all out attacking set with its good coverage punches is viable.

exploud.gif

Pokemon: Exploud
Type:
Psychic.png
/
Normal.png

Base Stats:
104 / 71 (-10) / 73 (+10) / 126 (+35) / 73 / 123 (+55) | BST: 570
Abilities:
Soundproof / Sheer Force | Scrappy
New Moves: Psychic, Dark Pulse, Nasty Plot
Justification/Niche: Fast Sweeper that can put a pressure with Sheer Force (makes coverage moves and Psychic hit harder) or Scrappy (not to worry about Ghost-type switching in when using Boomburst). Soundproof is more situational, but may comes in handy when dealing with Hyper Voice spammers.

solrock.gif

Pokemon: Solrock
Type:
Psychic.png
/
Ground.png

Base Stats:
90 / 135 (+40) / 85 / 50 (-5) / 85 (+20) / 125 (+55) | BST: 570
Abilities:
Levitate / Sand Force | Magic Guard
New Moves: Swords Dance, Hypnosis, Play Rough
Justification/Niche: Weird Pokémon for this type, but at least it does learn Earthquake, and we cannot leave it crippled while Lunatone enjoy his/her new roles. It will help that it can be a Physical Psychic-type sweeper without being a Fighting-type or being Mega Medicham. And you know what Solrock have over all of the other potential Psychic/Ground? Flare Blitz, a powerful Fire-type physical coverage which can help that you use Magic Guard to stop the recoil and abuse Life Orb without worries.

The next one might cause a controversy, but we can just program this one as legal by making this form stay after a successful battle when using Relic Song as Meloetta-Aria, thus able to forget this move and replace by a more useful move.

meloetta-pirouette.gif

Pokemon: Meloetta-Pirouette
Type:
Psychic.png
/
Fighting.png

Base Stats:
100 / 128 / 90 / 47 (-30) / 77 / 128 | BST: 570 (Meloetta-Aria will have 570 BST by having from 77 Atk to 47 Atk.)
Abilities: Serene Grace / Sheer Force | Dancer
New Moves: Swords Dance, Dragon Dance, Iron Head
Justification/Niche: Fast sweeper with a dignity of a legendary dancer. Although Zen Headbutt is not the perfect Physical STAB without Sheer Force (making it stronger), it also have enough coverage that all it needs is Iron Head against Fairy-type. Dancer will help out counter other Swords Dance sweepers while setting one of its own or Dragon Dance. It should be advised that its Special Defense remains quite low, and most of its attacks are contact-based. That said, you can also do the cheeky combo with Sing + Wake-Up Slap, which while not always reliable, can be remedied with one Hone Claws or two...

Pokemon: Grumpig

Old Stats: 80 / 45 / 65 / 90 / 110 / 80 (BST 470)
New Stats: 110 / 45 / 90 / 125 / 130 / 70 (BST 570)
Abilities: Thick Fat / Oblivious / HA: Filter
New Moves: Earth Power, Flash Cannon, Spikes
Justification/Niche: Pigs live in the dirt, so it may be appropriate. A bulky special tank with stall and hazards.
Sample moveset:

Grumpig @ Leftovers
Ability: Filter / Oblivious
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
IVs: 0 Atk
Bold Nature
- Spikes / Calm Mind
- Earth Power
- Psyshock
- Recover / Calm Mind

New Stats: 110 / 65 / 110 / 145 / 110 / 30 (BST 570)
Abilities: Overcoat / Magic Guard / Regenerator
New Moves: Vacuum Wave, Aura Sphere, Parting Shot
Justification/Niche: Look how big are his arms. It's a slow Vacuum Wave abuser, which doesn't really exist yet, perfect for TR team that it can also set.
Sample moveset:

Reuniclus @ Choice Specs / Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator / Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
Quiet Nature
- Psychic / Psyshock

Voting now begins

Use this template and try to have a vote for each one so we have less tiebreakers.

Psychic/Normal: Someone's Pokemon
Psychic/Ground: Someone's Pokemon
Psychic/Fighting: Someone's Pokemon

You can also vote for three typings that will be included in the next slate.

So the next type slate will be:

Dark Secondary Typings: Type 1 / Type 2 / Type 3

Psychic/Normal: Origin0's Oranguru
Psychic/Ground: Gravity Monkey's Golurk
Psychic/Fighting: Stitch98's Reuniclus

Dark secondary typings: Fairy / Electric / Steel

What G-Luke said. These typings are pretty bad and actually need optimization.

Oh yeah forgot to say, the types already done are Fire, Bug, Poison and Ice.

I might actually do a leader's choice for one of the 3 types in the end (other 2 will still be votes-based), just so we can fill out missing type niches faster.

Also voting ends 48 hrs

Also, we should only code the new submissions after the PMGS had ended to keep a stable metagame. Speaking of PMGS, can anyone tell some threats that passed our radar and thus had not yet been discussed?

Not sure if it’s been brought up, but Hariyama is obviously an issue. It’s just too bulky, too powerful, too THICC
