Introduction
Hi I'm Earth Traveler, and I'm new to Ubers and RMTs. I've been laddering with this team for a little while now, and I've had some limited success with it, but I keep stalling out around 1400. Some battles with players higher up the ladder indicate that this team obviously has some problems, so I decided I oughta take my team here to have it examined.
The Team
Dialga @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Modest Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Roar
I picked Dialga as my Rocks setter because as far as I can tell it's among the best at the job in Ubers. It has also fulfills a role as a bulky Pokemon with many resists and is a decent "anti" lead, since it can take down Ferrothorn and Mega-Sab. I picked Roar over Toxic as I've found Roar provides a helpful utility in stopping setup sweepers.
Groudon @ Red Orb
Ability: Drought
EVs: 48 Atk / 252 SpA / 144 SpD / 64 Spe
Mild Nature
- Rock Polish
- Fire Blast
- Precipice Blades
- Dragon Pulse
Primal Groudon is the best Pokemon in the tier, since as any rater reading this already knows, it can fulfill multiple roles. I'm using it as a mixed Rock Polish sweeper as you can see. Fire Blast can OHKO a lot of neutral Pokemon in the tier, Precipice Blades is a good alternate STAB that can hit Pokemon that resist Fire Blast for decent damage, and Dragon Pulse is a good coverage move to hit Dragons such as Giratina-O or Salamence.
Kyogre @ Blue Orb
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 180 HP / 252 SpA / 76 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Origin Pulse
- Calm Mind
- Ice Beam
- Thunder
Primal Kyogre is a power and moderately bulky special attacker. I mostly use it to take special hits or neutral physical ones and hit back with Origin Pulse, obviously being an immensely powerful STAB, or Ice Beam and Thunder if the situation dictates their use. I haven't gotten much use out of Calm Mind as yet, since opposing sweepers that come in generally threaten Kyogre too much for me to want to waste the turn not dealing damage.
Arceus-Ground @ Earth Plate
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Extreme Speed
Arceus-Ground is my primary way of dealing with Pdon or Steels, and makes for an excellent setup sweeper. +2 EdgeQuake coverage, or even +0, can OHKO or at least heavily dent quite a few Pokemon in the tier. Extreme Speed is a solid priority move to deal with setup sweepers that have taken a lot of damage or frail, fast Pokemon not immune to the move.
Xerneas @ Power Herb
Ability: Fairy Aura
EVs: 72 HP / 252 SpA / 100 SpD / 84 Spe
Modest Nature
- Geomancy
- Moonblast
- Thunder
- Hidden Power [Ground]
Xerneas is a decent setup sweeper that provides valuable Fairy coverage as well as resisting Dark- and Fighting-type moves, which particularly helps against the seemingly omnipresent Marshadow. The main thing here is the presence of a potential Geomancy sweep with Moonblast as the primary attack. Thunder is a good secondary STAB, although I've occasionally switched over to Thunderbolt in the past. I picked Hidden Power Ground over Focus
Mewtwo-Mega-Y @ Mewtwonite Y
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psystrike
- Focus Blast
- Ice Beam
- Fire Blast
Mewtwo-Mega-Y is a fast, hard-hitting special wallbreaker, but I use it mainly to hit Pokemon that it outspeeds and can OHKO. Psystrike, Focus Blast, Ice Beam, and Fire Blast combine to have excellent coverage, but due to its lack of resistances, I find it difficult to bring in except after a KO.
(Glaring) Flaws and Weaknesses
Lack of a Defogger or Spinner - Yeah, this one's pretty obvious, and it's started to become more and more of a problem as I go up the ladder. Some of my Pokemon can only survive certain hits when my side of the field is clear, and I know I need to a Defogger/Spinner, but I can't figure out how to fit one on my team without sacrificing potential attack power.
Ghosts in General - the above ghost has been the main issue, but if enemy Gengars actually could find ways to come in on my team I have little doubt they could be a problem.
Setup Sweepers - I imagine many teams have this issue, but once a setup starts, even at +1, almost nothing on my team with be able to stop it. Furthermore, some of my Pokemon are real setup bait in certain matchups, so actually preventing the setup can be challenging at times.
I probably missed something, but this needs to get wrapped up already.
Conclusion
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to reading your suggestions soon. In the meantime, I'll keep laddering. Thanks in advance for helping!
