Introduction

Hi I'm Earth Traveler, and I'm new to Ubers and RMTs. I've been laddering with this team for a little while now, and I've had some limited success with it, but I keep stalling out around 1400. Some battles with players higher up the ladder indicate that this team obviously has some problems, so I decided I oughta take my team here to have it examined.

The Team

dialga.gif

Dialga @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Modest Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Roar

I picked Dialga as my Rocks setter because as far as I can tell it's among the best at the job in Ubers. It has also fulfills a role as a bulky Pokemon with many resists and is a decent "anti" lead, since it can take down Ferrothorn and Mega-Sab. I picked Roar over Toxic as I've found Roar provides a helpful utility in stopping setup sweepers.

groudon-primal.gif

Groudon @ Red Orb
Ability: Drought
EVs: 48 Atk / 252 SpA / 144 SpD / 64 Spe
Mild Nature
- Rock Polish
- Fire Blast
- Precipice Blades
- Dragon Pulse

Primal Groudon is the best Pokemon in the tier, since as any rater reading this already knows, it can fulfill multiple roles. I'm using it as a mixed Rock Polish sweeper as you can see. Fire Blast can OHKO a lot of neutral Pokemon in the tier, Precipice Blades is a good alternate STAB that can hit Pokemon that resist Fire Blast for decent damage, and Dragon Pulse is a good coverage move to hit Dragons such as Giratina-O or Salamence.

kyogre-primal.gif

Kyogre @ Blue Orb
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 180 HP / 252 SpA / 76 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Origin Pulse
- Calm Mind
- Ice Beam
- Thunder

Primal Kyogre is a power and moderately bulky special attacker. I mostly use it to take special hits or neutral physical ones and hit back with Origin Pulse, obviously being an immensely powerful STAB, or Ice Beam and Thunder if the situation dictates their use. I haven't gotten much use out of Calm Mind as yet, since opposing sweepers that come in generally threaten Kyogre too much for me to want to waste the turn not dealing damage.

arceus-ground.gif

Arceus-Ground @ Earth Plate
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Extreme Speed

Arceus-Ground is my primary way of dealing with Pdon or Steels, and makes for an excellent setup sweeper. +2 EdgeQuake coverage, or even +0, can OHKO or at least heavily dent quite a few Pokemon in the tier. Extreme Speed is a solid priority move to deal with setup sweepers that have taken a lot of damage or frail, fast Pokemon not immune to the move.

Xerneas_XY.gif

Xerneas @ Power Herb
Ability: Fairy Aura
EVs: 72 HP / 252 SpA / 100 SpD / 84 Spe
Modest Nature
- Geomancy
- Moonblast
- Thunder
- Hidden Power [Ground]

Xerneas is a decent setup sweeper that provides valuable Fairy coverage as well as resisting Dark- and Fighting-type moves, which particularly helps against the seemingly omnipresent Marshadow. The main thing here is the presence of a potential Geomancy sweep with Moonblast as the primary attack. Thunder is a good secondary STAB, although I've occasionally switched over to Thunderbolt in the past. I picked Hidden Power Ground over Focus Miss Blast due to the latter's accuracy issues.

mewtwo-megay.gif

Mewtwo-Mega-Y @ Mewtwonite Y
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psystrike
- Focus Blast
- Ice Beam
- Fire Blast

Mewtwo-Mega-Y is a fast, hard-hitting special wallbreaker, but I use it mainly to hit Pokemon that it outspeeds and can OHKO. Psystrike, Focus Blast, Ice Beam, and Fire Blast combine to have excellent coverage, but due to its lack of resistances, I find it difficult to bring in except after a KO.

(Glaring) Flaws and Weaknesses

Lack of a Defogger or Spinner
- Yeah, this one's pretty obvious, and it's started to become more and more of a problem as I go up the ladder. Some of my Pokemon can only survive certain hits when my side of the field is clear, and I know I need to a Defogger/Spinner, but I can't figure out how to fit one on my team without sacrificing potential attack power.

Marshadow - Screw this thing. Nothing I have can switch directly into it except Xerneas into Close Combat, and only said Xerneas, Pdon, or Mewtwo can OHKO and live to tell the tale.

Ghosts in General - the above ghost has been the main issue, but if enemy Gengars actually could find ways to come in on my team I have little doubt they could be a problem.

Setup Sweepers - I imagine many teams have this issue, but once a setup starts, even at +1, almost nothing on my team with be able to stop it. Furthermore, some of my Pokemon are real setup bait in certain matchups, so actually preventing the setup can be challenging at times.

mega_salamence_sprite_by_wildflykartoffel-d80ojk7.png
Mega-Salamence - This thing has proved a much bigger problem than I would've anticipated. Once this begins setting up, my one Flying resist is usually gone, and actually KOing it prior to DD boosting is tougher than I thought. Without PKyogre or MMewtwo-Y on the field, it seems almost invincible (+0 Stone Edge from Arceus-Ground recently took off a measly 33% of its health).

I probably missed something, but this needs to get wrapped up already.

Conclusion

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to reading your suggestions soon. In the meantime, I'll keep laddering. Thanks in advance for helping!

Hi there! Ill try to help a bit.

Firstly, i wouldnt usualy reccomend this but if your having troubles with megamence you could potentially run ice beam on arceus ground i know it may seem wierd but it can hit megamence hard and i just see it offering more utility than espeed as this calc shows it can deal with mence decently well.

0- SpA Arceus-Ground Ice Beam vs. 44 HP / 0 SpD Salamence: 328-388 (95.9 - 113.4%) -- 75% chance to OHKO

Secondly, i would switch to the defensive groudon set, as you can get rocks up with it, opening up the slot where your dialga is for something better while simultaneously helping with your setup sweeper problem with roar

Lastly, now that you have an extra spot where dialgia was you can run marshadow to take care of your ghost problem as marsh getstechnician shadow sneak and spectral theif STABs (and spectral theif helps with the setup sweeper problem too as now they have to consider marsh stealing their stat boosts) and it gets technician hp ice to help with mence a little bit more while also giving your team some priority in shadow sneak.

Hope this helps!

Sets:

Groudon @ Red Orb
Ability: Drought
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Precipice Blades
- Roar
- Lava Plume

Marshadow @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Spectral Thief
- Shadow Sneak
- Close Combat

note: you could potentially run rock tomb on marsh too just wont be ×4 vs mence

Hello Earth Traveler. Welcome to competitive ubers. That’s a very interesting team you got there, and it’s a great attempt for someone who has recently started ubers. I’d like to give my views on your team.

Basically the major problems I noticed on the team are that it lacks a proper ghost resist and ground immunity, which is pretty much necessary for ubers teams this gen. It may have some problems against stall due to lack of a mon with taunt. Another thing about the team may be, as u have mentioned, has a problem against set up sweepers, major one being ekiller. Lastly, I feel the team does lack some physical presence on it.

So here are my suggestions for improvement:
  • Use mega gengar>mega mewtwo Y: mewtwo really doesn’t have a very specific role on the team and in this gen it is overpowered by many different higher ranked mons. Another thing about your team is that it has nothing to deal with stall properly. Gengar here provides the team with a taunt mon, thus making stall less of a problem to the team. It also helps as a non-boosted xerneas counter. Mgar also provides you with a good ekiller counter.

  • Use scarf yveltal>pogre: as you’ve mentioned in your rmt, the team is weak to marshadow and probably even mgar. Scarf yveltal works not only as a ghost resist, but also as a ground immunity for the team, and it works like a charm against the two mons mentioned above.

  • Use Excadrill>dialga: at first I thought of different arc forms or gira-o, but none would fit your team very well when the above two changes were made. Lead Excadrill acts both as a rocker and a spinner for the team.
Minor changes:
  • Change the pdon set to offensive rpsd: the team does lack physical presence a little, and what could be better than having a fast and powerful pdon. :P

  • Give arceus groundium z: the earth plate is used on special groundceus for judgement. Gen 7 has changed the mechanics and now allows type change of arceus when it holds a z crystal as well. At +2, groundceus can almost OHKO all physically defensive walls which are not immune to ground type moves with tectonic rage.

  • Consider having HP fire instead of HP ground on xerneas: this one is probably up to you. I recommend this though as, after the above changes have been made, ferrothorn can be a bit annoying, especially when xerneas has set up.
You may click here for the pastebin of the team.

That's all that I see on your team. Hope this has helped you. Good luck with laddering and have fun playing ubers. n_n
