Like what UU, RU, NU, DOU, and LC have, here are usage stats gathered from public replays for Ubers Open V Round 1.

I didn't separate Primals from their regular formes for a number of reasons. Hopefully it's not a big deal (pretty sure at least 99% of Groudon are Primal anyway). I did for Arceus because it's necessary, although some Arceus formes were unrevealed in battle thus bringing down the win % of certain formes.

groudon having 97% usage,that's even greater than GSC lax lmao.May be we should ban it. Also luke is the only mon with decent usage to have more than 70% winrate,it's so underrated.

From an initial reading, Jesus Christ, that Groudon Usage. When something is that overcentralizing, part of me wants to actually suspect it. Even Sweep was pushing for a suspect test or two, but hey, I could see how this could start a chilling effect.

Either way, interesting data. Giratina-O at #5 eh?
 
This looks much better than ladder usage stats which is already a plus. 2-5 tell me that offense or somekind is what people are resortint to more often than not with Salamence being used on HO and some BO and Gira-O being its potential replacement / role-sharing partner on other BO. Ho-Oh is still high up there which is good to see but it seems its balance partners (waterceus / klefki / gengar / landorus-t etc) are a bit lower than i thought they would be. Maybe that will change in later rounds. Yveltal's usage is alarmingly higher than I thought it would be. I guess people are either using that cb Yve team / like its design or something.

Check your facts please, Sweep was never in favour of a P Don test. Mega Mence was the only thing he had a slight issue with.

I stickied this thread to be a more visible resource and an area for discussion on the stats and the meta during the Ubers Open in general. If the discussion ends up going down the route of random shitposting then the thread will be locked, and would only be opened for updates just like the other tour stats thread is.

lets not go down that route.
 
Shit that Pdon usage even surprised me tbh, was expecting around 70-80% put lol at 97%. Can something be done about this already, its getting out of hand even from an Ubers perspective...

To not make this post too much of a rant, Im surprised people are still using Arceus-Ghost over its Rock counterpart. I find that Rock has both the utility to check Ekiller and be an answer to Ho-Oh in one slot imo.
 
It's interesting to note there's a huge difference between ladder teams and tournament teams, or so it seems. Greninja, for example, was #4 in usage on the ladder in July, but only used three times to come in at #58 here.

Why does mega slowbro have 4 uses it's actually the best ekiller counter and checks mence and ho-oh too ;_;

Lugia's kind of reliant on rocks not being up but I guess people might see the role as simply superior
 
Why are people surprised that Pdon's usage is 97%, that's like being surprised about the sky being blue, no shit, it's fucking blue, and pdon is in its own league. Hack yes SUMO is coming but tell me what could possibly even surpass Groudon? Something with enough justification to ban like MRay? The new Zygarde? If they ban that then where does that leave Pdon, ORAS came and yet Mega Gengar still traps mons, Arceus still SDs and Espeeds, Deoxys-S still gets hazards up and Xern still Geos and wins. I mean, what are you tryna say.

PS: This aint a personal attack, it just bothered me how you implied we should forget about pdon cus sumo, cheers.
 
Look I agree that we shouldn't ban anything right before ORAS ends cause it can create an imbalance in the tier right before it is cemented as an old gen meta, however I would just like to address that the discussion of banning Primals/Mega Mence has been occurring throughout the entirety of ORAS practically and all I was stating is that i felt it could have been addressed more liberally.

I still feel ORAS Ubers is a great meta game with a lot of competitive merits, but I just felt it could have been a bit better. Hopefully SuMo can either balance the meta a bit more or arise more discussion on Ubers banning philosophy (I'm looking at you Perfect Zygarde....)

Something interesting I'd like to point out is how much less used Gengar is than Mence. They're of similar level, with Gengar being considered slightly better from the convos we have in skype and stuff, but Gengar is actually at nearly half the usage of Salamence. When you remove the sample ho from it too (ie, subtracting Deo-s's usage from Mence), they appear to be a lot closer, but still have a quite significant gap between them (Gengar's 19.9 to salamence's 25.2). I think it's quite interesting how perceptions of the meta differ from what the stats tell us the meta should look like, and I'm looking forward to tracking the usage of the two dominant Mega's throughout the rest of the tour, to see if it adjusts to what we would expect (ie Gengar being more used than Mence) due to the improved quality of the remainder of the rounds.
 
Mence is still better than Gengar and way easier to build with and use.

Deoxys-S win rate (read: sample HO's) is bad. While it sits slightly above 50 % I'm pretty sure this is an all time low for it, especially considering this is early rounds of the tournament, meaning cheese is usually stronger. There is probably some correlation of Arceus-Normal's, Xerneas' and Salamence's (poor) win rates here as well. What I'm getting at is how sample HO has fallen from grace, even at levels of play present in early rounds of an all-inclusive Ubers tour. I mean the sample HO hype probably died around a year ago for regular uber players and metagame adaptations has now made it increasingly difficult to rely on.

It's pretty hard to correlate win rates with viability though. People generally misplay too much and this certainly affects some win rates more than others.
 
I mean, the consensus from the skype chat, and the viability thread where mons are now tiered in their own subtiers by viability both say that Gengar is better than Mence. I personally prefer using other megas anyway, just for fun (Lucario in particular). I wasn't even looking at the win rate between the two, merely the usage of them, because I dont expect round 1 of an ubers tour featuring a tonne of players from UU, RU, NU, PU, LC and Doubles to have fairly accurate win-rates with regards to corresponding viability. I was merely commenting on how different their usage is, despite them being on a similar level of viability.

As for Deo-S's win rate being low, it's the second highest in the top 20 most used mons, right after Arceus-Ground.

Called it, Gengar's usage is increasing and discounting Standard HO teams, would be higher than mence for this round.

It's interesting how high the win rates of Kangaskhan and Cloyster are. It's not surprising that Deo-a and Darkrai have really good win-rates, but the two of them (kanga and cloyster) have had above 60% win rates in both rounds now, suggesting that it's not a fluke, they are really effective, perhaps more so than we initially believed. I wonder if their winrate will decrease further into the tournament, where I would expect to see a shift away from HO (of various forms, not just standard) towards BO, which they both perform worse against.

Also worth observing is that, for something that was nom'd to A a short time ago, Bronzong's win rate is quite abysmal. 37% and 35% is performing worse than Kanga/Cloy are performing well. I didn't agree with the nom, and this is hard data that it's not as good as that.
