Ubers Player Spotlight - #8
Ubers Player Spotlight is the place where I interview notable and respected players from Ubers, the tier where the fiercest monsters combat and exert apocalyptic force. People I choose to interview are the elite players who excel at taming the strongest monsters and have been consistent throughout tournaments and is well respected by the community.

Favorite Pokémon:
My favorite Pokemon is Kyurem no particular form. I also enjoy running mons that reward you for predicting correctly and Kyurem is for sure one of those mons although it is pretty underwhelming in Ubers.
Overview:
I'm 20 years old going into my Junior year of college, aside from Pokemon I enjoy working out and gambling on sports. I am also a music enthusiast although I no longer play any instruments.
What is your name's origin?
I've had the username ever sense I started playing video games so it has kinda just stuck from game to game.
What made you start playing Pokémon?
I actually never played pokemon until my roommate cromagnet42 introduced me to it my first semester of college. From then on I've been addicted.
What inspired you to play Ubers?
I had started Pokemon with OU but was pretty bad having no real knowledge of the game so i went to a tier that was easy to ladder in Anything goes and stayed there for a long time. I joined the winter ssnl on a whim and began to have some success in that tournament. I proceeded to start building in the tier and really enjoyed that and here we are now.
What is your favorite playstyle?
I definitely prefer BO and HO over other plays styles. I find that I am an extremely aggressive player and I like to force games down a certain path with my plays. I think that it is harder to do that when you are using bulkier builds.
What is your opinion on Gothitelle & Gothorita suspect?
I wanted goth to be banned because I thought that it hindered building a decent amount. although I can see the argument for keeping it as it is definitely not a highly used mon and has a relatively low win rate.
Are there any elements of the metagame that you deem unhealthy?
I really don't find much outside of goth to be unhealthy, I think that there are mons like DM that can become an issue with poor team composition and playing but if both of things are optimal I don't generally find it to be too much of an issue. I will say though that it and Pdon are extremely centralizing but I would not say that is a bad thing.
What is your the most memorable game of Ubers?
Cynara's team: Kyogre / Groudon / Arceus / Xerneas / Necrozma-Dusk-Mane / Yveltal
Chop's team: Klefki / Zygarde / Gengar / Groudon / Marshadow / Yveltal
Second game between Cynara and Chop in upl. I built the para spam team that chop used and it worked exactly how it was suppose to by clicking yellow moves sub'ing and para'ing.
How did UPL VI make you feel?
At the time I was a bit upset that I was unable to participate as I felt that I was good enough to. However I was able to help the bandits in prep and testing which was a lot of fun, and reflecting on it with how new I was at the time it is not really a surprise I was not picked. As far as the nature of the games I thought the tour was extremely competitive and there were some really great games.
It seems like you are well known for your activity in Anything Goes playerbase! How are things there?
I do not really enjoy the Ag meta currently when you look at standard teams they are very similar with cores around two support arc's don and one of the two dominant mega's. There has also been an extreme surge in sleep mechanics being exploited because of Vivillion which i do not enjoy. The staff there though are super cool some of my favorite people on the site. I think that the tier would really benefit from new people playing it bringing new ideas and things of that nature.
What new users or players in Ubers do you look up to?
There are a few hyw really helped me improve as a player because he forced me to play his stall 10-20 times every night for a long time. Terracotta really inspired me to look at building from a different perspective, and PurpleGatorade he had been playing Ubers casually for longer than me but I think we both kinda got into the comp scene at the same time, he really pushes me to try and improve at the game because I know if I don't he will dominate me in friendlies.
What are your advices for new players getting into Ubers?
I think learning to build your own teams helps a lot. I know that my builds often cater to my particular play style so while some might perceive them as odd they work for me. I think that if you can do that you have far more options when it comes to building and playing.
What do you say about many previous interviewees considering you as one of the better players of USM?
Its nice to hear. I really don't think that I have done enough to be considered one of the best players not having played in any serious team tours yet, but i am hoping that I will be able to participate in Snake and show what I can do.

Would you provide us with a team and add a brief description?
This is a team I built a few weeks ago. I think its a good example of what I talked about when I said building to cater my play style. once you've gotten rocks and a spike or two, you can really pressure your opponent my doubles and things of that nature and the risk vs reward is reduced a great deal because of the pressure being forced on them by hazards.

Second game between Cynara and Chop in upl. I built the para spam team that chop used and it worked exactly how it was suppose to by clicking yellow moves sub'ing and para'ing.
How did UPL VI make you feel?
At the time I was a bit upset that I was unable to participate as I felt that I was good enough to. However I was able to help the bandits in prep and testing which was a lot of fun, and reflecting on it with how new I was at the time it is not really a surprise I was not picked. As far as the nature of the games I thought the tour was extremely competitive and there were some really great games.
It seems like you are well known for your activity in Anything Goes playerbase! How are things there?
I do not really enjoy the Ag meta currently when you look at standard teams they are very similar with cores around two support arc's don and one of the two dominant mega's. There has also been an extreme surge in sleep mechanics being exploited because of Vivillion which i do not enjoy. The staff there though are super cool some of my favorite people on the site. I think that the tier would really benefit from new people playing it bringing new ideas and things of that nature.
What new users or players in Ubers do you look up to?
There are a few hyw really helped me improve as a player because he forced me to play his stall 10-20 times every night for a long time. Terracotta really inspired me to look at building from a different perspective, and PurpleGatorade he had been playing Ubers casually for longer than me but I think we both kinda got into the comp scene at the same time, he really pushes me to try and improve at the game because I know if I don't he will dominate me in friendlies.
What are your advices for new players getting into Ubers?
I think learning to build your own teams helps a lot. I know that my builds often cater to my particular play style so while some might perceive them as odd they work for me. I think that if you can do that you have far more options when it comes to building and playing.
What do you say about many previous interviewees considering you as one of the better players of USM?
Its nice to hear. I really don't think that I have done enough to be considered one of the best players not having played in any serious team tours yet, but i am hoping that I will be able to participate in Snake and show what I can do.

This is a team I built a few weeks ago. I think its a good example of what I talked about when I said building to cater my play style. once you've gotten rocks and a spike or two, you can really pressure your opponent my doubles and things of that nature and the risk vs reward is reduced a great deal because of the pressure being forced on them by hazards.
