Herring, who is a "meh" fighter now and Lesnar won but not in the most convincing manner.

Let me see..

Broke Herring's orbital bone with the first punch of the fight? check.
Didn't take any damage for the entire fight? check.
Beat the crap out of Herring while using wrestling to stay on top? check.

I don't see how it was in an way unconvincing. Herring didn't land a damn thing for the entire fight, Brock just didn't go for a finish at all.

Exactly. Also, about Couture not training hard; if he didn't that's his problem not Lesnar's lol nor does it make Lesnar look like less of a fighter. Couture didn't do shit to Lesnar and the UFC is lacking in good heavyweights right now. I don't even know who you'd call a "top rank" HW in the UFC at the moment...Cro Cop's proven himself against monsters like Fedor and then gets KOed by a random, and then beaten up in a STAND UP full fight by another random. Nog. didn't show much skill against Mir, I don't even know if Sylvia is fighting in the UFC anymore. Last time I looked him up, he got destroyed by Fedor in 36 secs I beleive.

Damn...HW devision really does suck atm. Maybe Brock can cut 80 pounds and take on the light heavyweights! I dont know, after Lesnar vs Mir, I wouldn't be surprised to see Kongo (congo?sp?) fight the champ since the HW devision sucks right now...erm sucks more than before. I'm hoping Cro Cop can get himself together, I really miss watching him destory people. Also hoping for some good HW guys to get signed on. (not Coleman) Wish Japan would import some fighters to the UFC...

Nog always looks weak early (I think anyway). His strength is in surviving and getting submissions.

Sylvia isn't in the UFC anymore (though he really hasn't been the same since Mir broke his arm), Arlovski isn't in the UFC anymore either, and nor is Josh Barnett (he was clean as of 2k6 from roids btw). UFC's heavyweights really aren't impressive right now.

Anyone watch the WEC? It's on Versus, stands for World Extreme Cagefighting. Their best matches tend to be in the lighter weight classes: ex. Urijah Faber, Miguel Torres.

Frank Mir himself commentates full-time for them in addition to fighting in the UFC, if you want to hear him talk about strategy.

UFC's heavyweights really aren't impressive right now.

I beg to differ. Maybe in the last 2 years they weren't. There is definitely improvement in the division coming from the new heavyweights, many of them have looked very impressive.

Brock Lesnar aside, I'm talking about Shane Carwin, Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos for example. HW will sooner than later shape up to be quite an exciting division. Then again, it does still have more cans than the other divisions, but that won't ever change and it's been like that in all heavy weight divisions in all sports in all orgs since forever.

As for Josh Barnett, I have very little respect for the guy and not because of his steroid past. He's been labeled as a top heavyweight for years yet I have no idea how you can go that long without doing everything in your power to fight the best. It seems he's been avoiding Fedor since forever. I cannot explain why that fight never happened.

Bottom line is I don't like Lesnar. Having three fights in the UFC and being the champ is ridiculous.

Rampage got a title shot in his 2nd fight in the UFC
Anderson Silva in his 2nd fight as well.
Dan Henderson's 2 first fights since his return to the UFC were title fights.
Crocop was on his way to a title shot in his 3rd fight. Same thing for Wanderlei, assuming he'd won against Rampage last week.

I'm not sure if you should dislike them as well.

But then again, all of them had credentials from other organisations warranting a title shot soon after their arrival which probably isn't the case for Lesnar.

I think that can be put down to his inability to get a win over Cro Cop as much as anything else, he spent most of 2005 on the shelf, came back and ate a loss to Cro Cop, won 4 straight (to people who aren't half bad either, Mark Hunt, Aleksander Emelianenko and Big Nog) then lost to Cro Cop again, then he had the rematch with Big Nog and lost on decision.. and he's only been on a card in the same organization as Fedor once since.

That said I think he should be fighting Fedor at Afflication: Day of Reckoning instead of Arlovski, but I'm sure we'll be seeing the Fedor vs Barnett fight sometime this year - assuming Fedor actually wins against Arlovski, which could be a closer fight than people are giving it credit for.

I agree here. Arlovski's looked really boring and slow in his last few UFC fights, but you gotta remember the guy's explosive as hell and he's actually a good match up against Fedor. He's got the skills to beat Fedor but if he isn't explosive with his striking/submission attemps, Fedor will just wear him down...fast. I'm excited. :D

Exactly.

I'm going to hate myself if I dont get tickets for this one in my hometown because that is a great card. The 3 first fights could have been main event and I am a huge fan of the Crow who will make his UFC comeback in his hometown under, likely, a thunderous ovation.

MMA always sounded like a gimmick. Anyone who does Muay Thai should win, Muay Thai is a sweet style!

OK what the fuck. Who in the world does MMA sound like a gimmick to honestly?? First off Muay Thai is very exciting and it is my favorite type of stand up combat sport, but saying "anyone who does Muay Thai should win" is a bit overkill. ESPECIALLY in mma.

Actually, here:
kitcopenl3.jpg

Kit Cope. World champion Muay Thai fighter, and he was crushed in the UFC. (More than once.) Notice that no one in any mma organization that's a pure Muay Thai fighter gets very far.

Also I'm with Vineon once again lol...great minds DO think alike! The first 3 matches declared for UFC97 are going to be amazing. Lesnar v. Mir2 I already commented on. It's going to be interesting to see how Silva fights after his poor performance against Patrick Cote. Obviously he's going to lose eventually as mma is extremely competitive but I dont think it's going to be this time. He seems too quick to get knocked out right now. Anyhow, Matt Hughes vs Matt Sera seems like a bitter rivarly thing. I don't know. Hughes seems like he might be out of his prime but Sera's not THAT good honestly. An old, washed up Hughes would still get my money before Sera would if I were betting on this fight. Hughes will probably just slam Sera for 3 rounds and punish him on the ground.

Also, the CROW!! Fuck yeah! Ever since his loss to Franklin I've been wondering what happened to this guy. I'm really excited to see him fight again. Seems to me like Herman is just an "easier comeback fight" than some other 185s I'd pit him against. No offense to Herman but if this is the same Crow as before, he's getting beat badly. I'd rather see someone like Bisping/Cote fight the Crow.

Oh yeah, anyone else shitting themselves over the UFC video game that's coming out in a few months? It's called UFC Undisputed and I'm extremely excited. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cWOzW9yIbQ Here's a vid of some actual gameplay of Rampage coaching a guy who plays against a guy being coached by Griffin, and they're fighting each other in the game lol. Ignore the title, it's UFC Undisputed not indisputed but w/e. This looks really promising. I'm looking forward to slamming some people with Jackson or picking guys apart with Machida! I cannot wait. For those of you who are considering getting it I think its for 360 and PS3.

Even though this is old news, for all the middleweight fans and well mma fans in general, Evan Tanner died a few months ago. I was a really big fan of his too. RIP mate.

Any single style is a gimmick.

Mir vs Lesnar interests me, purely because I want to see Mir get beaten on for 5 rounds. I think Mir is going to be pretty confident going in, but Brock is going to throw him on his ass again and beat on him - only this time I don't see him giving Mir a free foot lock.

I'm going to be nervous as hell during GSP vs Penn.

My favorite fighter against one of those I hate the most. I could be devastated after a loss =(

I still have confidence in my boy Georges for this fight though.

Because he's a fucking cocky son of a bitch.

Just watch any of his promos. His current one on UFC.com starts with "I'm going to kill you Georges".

Not something I want to hear said about my boy.

BJ Penn vs. Georges St. Pierre...

thumbnail_crop.php

Spolier I guess...

Ok, here's how I'm feeling right now in a brief summary:

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
HHHHHHHH

Alright, now that I'm done with that I guess I should elaborate. My stomach basically dropped in the third round and it's still dead as I am writing this... I'm not exactly disappointed, just, like... mannnn damnit.... God damnit... I really freaking wanted BJ Penn to win this fight so bad as extremely freaking cliché as this all sounds I don't really know how else to explain it ;;;;_;;;;;. I was originally rooting for BJ.... then GSP.... for a short while and then BJ.... as soon as the fight started... checks BJ Penn's website... ;O;... god damnit why!!!!!!!!
GSP... was fucking scary... fuck... I mean he was ripped before but I mean this was like crazy, I really can't see how he even got like that, not even three months could make you like that from like... yeah... I mean if you looked at his legs he would like crouch down a little bit and they would fucking like bulge out, veins, damn... to the extreme hard work I guess =/... Maybe I'm over exaggerating I don't know =/...

As soon as BJ let him have his way a little bit, he just overpowered BJ... if you saw the way he was like powering through BJ pushing him back into the fence like that and everything, BJ just couldn't do anything back... Definitely yes technique can win against strength, but I mean when it's at that level, it just can't really be done... After the third round all I had was hope, and I hoped so fucking hard... but it just couldn't be done...

I don't really think I have enough energy to say anything else... although there is a lot more than can be said... I just fucking pray to god that BJ gets better... he needs to be the best, if he gets to GSP's strength then there will be no stopping him, the bright side of this is BJ can go up from here...

And I guess that we might also see a GSP vs. Anderson Silva fight in the near future ~.^...

BJ got fucking killed. Case closed.

Jon Jones vs Stephan Bonnar was a hell of a fight, Bonnar is fucking tough to survive the first round..

Could be me, but I thought Karo got very lucky with that decision.

On another topic: damn, Arlovski shot himself in the foot, with a rocket launcher.. jumping knee against Fedor? bad move..

I predicted GSP would win by decision but damn he really dominated BJ. Getting beaten up that badly could even affect BJ to the point where he fucks up in his 155 title defense.

I'm actually hoping for GSP to fight Anderson Silva in the near future. His stand-up isn't nearly as sharp, but I bet he could grind out a decision with his GnP. That is if he makes it past the first 2 rounds and Silvas amazing stand up lol.

Machida's the man btw. Nice knockout and hopefully he gets a title shot. If he does, he'll decimate Evans I'm pretty sure, but maybe Rampage vs Evans would be better first to clear out the losers from the winners with Machida getting the winner. This is of course, after Rampage knocks out Jardine.

I want to watch the Jon Fitch fight pretty badly and also apparantly Gono had a really cool entrance! (Pride nostalgia lol)

Also as Trax said, Arlovksi got killed but to his credit he was winning the fight (IMO) up until the point where he got knocked out. Maybe we'll finally get to see Fedor fight Barnett.

Considering Rampage is locked with Jardine, it is obvious they were going to give the next title shot to the winner of Silva/Machida. Surprises me a little, I thought Rampage would get a immediate shot after his win over Wanderlei, considering he lost the belt after quite a close fight and because UFC management aren't the biggest Lyoto fans.

As for my boy, GSP, I couldn't be prouder. This was my Superbowl. Silenced BJ alright, he was stoped, he had to quit, his face was all bruised up and he is heading to the hospital. All things he mocked GSP about in either their own fight or in GSP's fight against Serra. I still fucking hate BJ and I enjoyed every single second of this epic beating.

I'd say hearing GSP swear all over the place in french as the show was closing was hilarious though, it doesn't seem to fit his character. Picture several F bombs (Quebecois equivalents rather) in a row, it was worse than Dana White speaking. "Osti de colisse de tabarnak que chu content en criss".

Also, it sends a message to the lightweight contenders, BJ's mystique certainly doesn't make him undefeatable.

Arlovski has disappointingly no jaw, if he had one, we would have had quite a fight. Barnett is scared of Fedor and will fold in their fight for sure.

Indeed Jones looked incredible, Bonnar is a quality opponent, theres work to be put on his gas tank though, he didn't do anything in the 3rd round.

Seems that a lot of people aren't Lyoto fans, purely because he doesn't fight like Wanderlei, or in fact pretty much any more aggressive striker (by which I mean eating millions of unnecessary hits), he's got real fight smarts and because of that I think people have it out for him

Arlovski has disappointingly no jaw, if he had one, we would have had quite a fight. Barnett is scared of Fedor and will fold in their fight for sure.

I think pretty much anyone would've been knocked out by that, his entire weight is moving forward and he eats a very strong right hand from a guy who is a notoriously hard hitter.

As for Barnett, I think we can agree to disagree on this one, I don't know if he'll beat Fedor but if Josh shows up ready to get it on and at his best I think he has potential, it's rare for Fedor to fight a biggish guy with any skills on the ground (and please, don't say Mark Coleman, he always looks lost when he gets people down) and he seems to have trouble with them, Mark Hunt was probably his closest fight and despite the natural skill of Mark he isn't that good on the ground (due to being primarily a kickboxer) - yet he was able to get Fedor in a lot of trouble despite the majority of the fight being grounded - if he'd had more confidence in his ground game he may have won.
