Underused Pokemon Matchmaking Phase 2 [Week 29 - Nasty Plot Infernape]

cyndaquil.jpg

So this week was close between Cyndequil. and Legacy Raider, but the win goes to Cyndequil by one vote for that amazing Tentacruel! :)

This week, I wanted to go with a mon that has been around UU since last gen (maybe before idk I only started playing PS! Gen 5 so don't hurt me if I am wrong lol) and has made a name for herself ever since. I am talking about...

Nidoqueen is a force to be reckoned with whether it be from the offensive or defensive side of things (imo both sets are very valuable). Anyways, have fun and see you guys on Friday! :)

Nidoqueen @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 180 HP / 252 SpA / 76 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave
- Ice Beam
- Stealth Rock

Blastoise @ Blastoisinite
Ability: Rain Dish
EVs: 56 HP / 252 SpA / 200 Spe
Modest Nature
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Dark Pulse
- Aura Sphere

These two are a notorious bulky offense core that honestly has one of the best wallbreaking potentials in the entire tier combined with decent defensive synergy, as well as the ability to fulfill a number of roles to aid role compression. Nidoqueen + Blastoise provides teams with an Electric immunity, a Fighting resist, a Stealth Rock user, an entry hazard remover, a Fire-type resist, wallbreakers, and a Fairy-resist among other things between just the two of them.

In terms of synergy, Nidoqueen is immune to Electric-type attacks aimed at Blastoise whereas Blastoise can easily take on Ice- or Water-type attacks aimed at Nidoqueen. Blastoise also helps weaken or remove checks to Nidoqueen such as Snorlax, Porygon2, and Cresselia, whereas Nidoqueen helps weaken or remove the likes of Florges, Chesnaught, Mega Ampharos and others, all decent Mega Blastoise checks.

- Thunderbolt
- Stealth Rock

Florges like the way how Nidoqueen can easily down the steel type, poison-type and a lot of fire type. With Thunderbolt, Nidoqueen can do a cool amount of damages to Suicune too. With the Stealth Rock, Nidoqueen can also help Florges with Beedrill-mega. While Florges can set up/down some check to nidoqueen such as Swampert, psychic type in general, some Water-type, and things like Krookodile.

Machamp @ Choice Band

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Heavy Slam
- Bullet Punch / Ice Punch

Offensive Rocks Nidoqueen and Banded Machamp make an absolutely devastating wall-breaking duo with their powerful attacks and excellent coverage. Nidoqueen can dispatch any Fairy type that threatens Machamp with a STAB Sludge Wave, while also taking down most Physical walls such as Suicune and Alomomola. Nidoqueen also provides vital SR support, allowing Machamp to wall-break easier, in turn leading to more KO's. In return, Machamp can easily elimiate common special walls such as Blissey, Snorlax, Porygon2, and Umbreon with its STAB Close Combat while also being able to defeat specially defensive Bronzong, an almost foolproof Nidoqueen counter, with Knock Off.

Lets look at some of Nidoqueen's switch ins: Porygon 2, Snorlax, Bronzong, Blissey, Umbreon. Heracross easily removes all of these, and so do other fighting types like Mienshao and Machamp but there is a difference and a pretty big one. Heracross is capable of removing bulky psychics like Cresselia (which can switch in on nidos) whereas those aforementioned fighting types struggle with removing the same (relatively), obviously making this choice the superior one.

Nidoqueen does a lot for Heracross too. It pressures Heracross' switch ins with either Stealth Rock or Toxic Spikes (or both) and is also capable of easily removing switch ins like Aromatisse. Pretty much pressuring any physical wall (the only kind of mons) that can potentially switch into a Heracross. So yeah this is a pretty good wallbreaking core.

Fuck this CB Machamp foo foo shit. The real best fighting type teammate for Nidoqueen is Mienshao. CB Shao takes lives, especially with T-Spikes Support. There are NEGATIVE, yes negative mons that can switch into HJK without fear of being obliterated by Knock Off/Stone Edge (looking at you ghosts + Bat). If you failed to get up a hazard yet, simply spam U-Turn into Nidoqueen, as common switchins like Doublade, Mence, Florges, and I guess Zapdos now get slayed by Nidoqueen. Shao's speed makes up for the lack of bulk, since using peasant fighting types like Machamp and Heracross leaves you susceptible to being torn apart by Hydra, Krook, Mence, Specs Rotoms, Krook, Band Darm, etc. Here are some calcs to prove why this is the best partner ever:

-1 252 Atk Choice Band Reckless Mienshao High Jump Kick vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Salamence: 148-175 (44.7 - 52.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock LOL Counter?

252 Atk Choice Band Reckless Mienshao High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Florges: 169-200 (46.9 - 55.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery Nice switch in

252 Atk Choice Band Mienshao Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 60 Def Crobat: 356-420 (95.4 - 112.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock BOP

252 Atk Choice Band Reckless Mienshao High Jump Kick vs. 248 HP / 176+ Def Zapdos: 159-188 (41.5 - 49%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery IDK this AIDS set but it was in calc and again, counter?

252 Atk Choice Band Reckless Mienshao High Jump Kick vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Whimsicott: 148-175 (45.8 - 54.1%) -- 96.1% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery Again this set is cancer

Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- Pursuit
- Superpower
Use these two together and I guarantee you'll be able to apply tremendous offensive pressure on the other team. I know that Nidoqueen and Krookodile don't have great defensive synergy, but when it comes to dismantling this tier's bulky 'mons, they are some of the best for the job. Nidoqueen struggles with a number of special walls, most notably Blissey, Umbreon, Snorlax, Bronzong, and SpDef Porygon2, but none of those Pokemon can survive too many hits from Krookodile, especially not if you're running Choice Band. Meanwhile, Nidoqueen can also set up hazards, getting chip damage on walls so that Krookodile can potentially KO them. The icing on the cake is Krookodile's strong Pursuit, which can weaken special walls as they switch out, sometimes giving Nidoqueen the opportunity that it needs to beat one of its checks. These two actually do cover a few of each others' weaknesses, with Nidoqueen checking Fighting and Fairy-types and Krookodile destroying Psychic-types. Two Ground-types on one team might seem risky at first, but they are an incredible match that excels at wallbreaking. It is important to remember that these aren't the only possible sets to run. You can use Toxic Spikes on Nidoqueen and Stealth Rock on Krook, and also vary up your coverage a little bit. Well, good luck with this core. It's incredible with the right support.

Zoroark @ Life Orb
Ability: Illusion
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 SpD
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off
- Low Kick
- Sucker Punch

The only switches into a mon like Nidoqueen are dedicated special walls which, bar Florges, Zoroark beats. +2 Low Kick Shreks Snorlax, and 2HKO's Blissey and Umbreon. Vaporeon and Bronzong are OHKO'd by Knock Off, and Porygon2 is defeated with Knock Off + Low Kick. Zoroark can get away with setting up despite its frailty, seeing as how Nidoqueen resists its weaknesses and isn't usually targeted by Will-o' or Thunder Wave. It helps that Nidoqueen's weaknesses in Water and Psychic usually aren't offensive or do not effect Zoroark.

Hey guys, finally got around to this, another simple match here. So Nidoqueen has the ability to really put a dent in any team with its Sheer Force boosted moves and coverage. A thing it really does best is take out Fairy-Types with its STAB Sludge Wave. So Hydreigon really has trouble with said Fairies cause it has nothing to hit them with (except the rare Flash Cannon which doesn't do much anyway). With a choiced set, Hydreigon can also U-turn on incoming fairies/empoleons into Nidoqueen, so momentum is really nice. So that's why these 2 are a great match, as Nidoqueen can take out most of Hydreigon's checks/counters with both its STABs while also providing hazard support for both their wallbreaking skills with access to Stealth Rocks.
