Underused Pokemon Matchmaking Phase 2 [Week 29 - Nasty Plot Infernape]

Cobalion @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Stone Edge
- Close Combat
- Iron Head

Krookodile @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Pursuit
- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

This HO core consists of Krook being a revenge killer and Cobalion being a late game sweeper, after it's checks have been weakened / fainted. Replacing Superpower with Sedge on Krookodile is also fine, since it can hit Porygon and deal better with shuca users. P common core but it's really efficient so that's it

glad this project is back, it's a good one for sure n_n

But anyway, I got a pretty simple core here with Choice Band Krookodile and Mega Sceptile. Krookodile's main role within this match is just to punch holes in the opposing team with its high powered STABs in Knock Offs and Earthquakes while also giving Sceptile an opportunity to clean/sweep easier with all of its opponents' Pokemon worn down from Krookodile. You could opt for Superpower over Stone Edge on Krookodile for things like P2, Lax, or Blissey to support Mega Scep even more, but Knock Off/Earthquake already does a huge amount of damage to those anyway so it's usually a choice that's based off of team composition.

Krookodile and Gyarados are pretty great partners. Krook is an all-around champ when it comes to supporting sweepers, using Stealth Rock and Knock Off to whittle down opposing 'mons, and one of the many Pokemon whose sweeps it can encourage is one of UU's latest new toys, Gyarados. The two have great type synergy and also help each other out when it comes to removing their respective checks and counters. Krookodile is immune to Electric-type moves and resist Rock-type moves, while Gyarados checks Fighting and Bug-types for Krookodile. Gyarados's Flying STAB can also remove some of Krookodile's Grass-type checks, while Krookodile's Knock Off can pester Porygon2 and Cresselia, two of Gyarados's more viable checks in the tier. This core has both offensive and defensive utility on its own. Both 'mons are hard-hitters and constantly pressure opposing teams with their strong moves, but they also both have Intimidate, meaning that it's easier to check some physical attackers that might otherwise be annoying.

Certain Electric-types and bulky Water-types are the main threats to this core. Despite Krookodile's Electric immunity, threats like Heliolisk, Zapdos, and Rotom-Mow can still beat it with the right coverage moves, and it doens't really excel at checking less common Electric-types for the same reasons. Bulky Water-types, including Swampert, Suicune, and Shuca Berry Empoleon can also annoy this core by stalling out most of their attacks, and many offensive Water-types, like Crawdaunt and opposing Gyarados, threaten to blow past this core. Great teammates in this case include Grass-types like Roserade, Whimsicott, or Mega Sceptile, all of which have no problems with checking or outright defeating these threats. Apart from that, this is a very solid core that I think can take you very far in the current metagame.

Copypasting from UU Cores thread:

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 240 HP / 244 Def / 24 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes
- Scald
- Acid Spray

Krookodile @ Choice Band
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- Pursuit
- Superpower

This is an offensive core that I love to use. Tentacruel is imo the best and most splashable spinner in UU due to great typing, decent bulk, speed, and utility moves to mitigate passivity. The big reason to use Tentacruel, along with Spin, is to have access to Toxic Spikes. Grounded Poisons absorb them, which is where Krookodile comes in. CB Krook 1v1s every grounded Poison except Adamant Beedrill (you can live -1 Jolly U-Turn) due to incredibly powerful EQs, and once the Poison is dead, Toxic Spikes can wreck havoc. Typing wise, Krook is immune to Electric and Psychic which hit Tenta for 2x damage, and Tentacruel switches and spins on the bulky Waters + Fairies that switch in on CB locked Krook. They pair well with literally any wallbreaker in existence, since they all appreciate Toxic Spike support.

Krookodile + Zapdos Offensive Core

Krookodile: Non-Choice Attacker
Zapdos: LO 3 Attacks + Roost or Choice Specs

Large Explanation:
sorry, English is not my first language.
This core is really very simple, but it works very well. Krookodile can kick off any Pokémon that Zapdos can't touch (except Mamoswine and Florges). Knock Off is Krookodile's first STAB, with Dread Plate it becomes more dangerous than Earthquake if your opponent has no Item. Earthquake can do a lot in any Pokémon that can't resist it, and pressure out so many Pokémon, such as Nidoqueen and Nidoking. Stealth Rock is essential in this Metagame. Pursuit is a good move to trap Chandelure and other Pokémon that are pressurized, but Taunt can replace it, because everyone hate Stall Cores actually. The 240 EV's in Speed and a Jolly Nature are used to outspeed any Pokemon with 80-90 of Speed, such as Roserade, Toxicroak, Lucario and Nidoking, this Spread can outspeed Band Adamant Entei, too. The other EV's are used to increase it's offensive power and it's bulk, you can run an Adamant Nature with 252 EV's in Speed too, but it isn't so effective. Intimidate is Krookodile's Ability because if a Lucario buffs Swords Dance in front of it, it will be +1, but he can't kill you with Extremme Speed and ou can OHKO it with Earthquake. Zapdos has to relevant sets in this core: the LO 3 Attacks + Roost or the Choice Specs, so, I'll explain the two. Firstly the LO 3 Attacks + Roost: It is a really very effective set with Krookodile, Thunderbolt is the main STAB, that can hurt any Pokémon of your opponent with a high damage and it can 2HKO any Bulky Water that isn't immune to it. Heat Wave can do a lot in Physically Defensive Steel-Types (Forretress and Aggron-Mega), in Grass-Types (Whimsicott and Shaymin) and in Bug-Types (Escavalier and Heracross), and all these Pokémon are so dangerous to Krookodile, that will struggle to it. Now, we have one indecision: Hidden Power [Ice] or Hidden Power [Grass]? I like the two, but it depends with the team that you are using: If you are so many weak to Swampert and Seismitoad, you can run Hidden Power [Grass]. But, if you are weak to Gligar, Hydreigon, Salamence and Mega Sceptile, you can run Hidden Power [Ice]. The most of time, I use Hidden Power [Grass], because those four Pokémon are walled by any Fairy-Type with ease, such as Florges and Whimsicott. Roost is Zapdos recovery move, that can heal 50% of it's life in a free turn. Life Orb can increase your damage in 1.3, but it will make you recoil, but you have Roost, so it is OK. Now, the Choice Specs Set: This set has a better offensive presence and it has not recoil, but, Zapdos has no reliable recovery and it is always limited to use the first attack that you choose, so it has a big weakness to Stealth Rock, because the only way to recover your health is use Healing Wish/Lunar Dance/Wish, and if you want to use another attack, you need to switch Zapdos. Anyway, Thunderbolt is the main STAB, that can hurt any Pokémon really hard. Heat Wave can do a lot in any Bug-, Grass- or Steel-Type. We have the same indecision, again: HP Grass or HP Ice? It depends of your team, but in this set, i recommend to use Hidden Power [Ice], because that are so much Pokémon that can deal with Swampert, like Hidden Power [Grass] does. Volt Switch is the "help button" move. Zapdos is so fast, so it can outspeed a lot of Pokémon in the tier and run. For the both sets, we have the same ability and the same EV Spread. Static Zapdos is really very fun to use paired with Krookodile, because it can punish U-Turn users, Fighting-Types or Outrage Salamence. 252 Speed with a Timid Nature are used to maximize it's speed and Speed Tie with Salamence.

Krookodile and Roserade have great synergy and can fulfill great offensive or support roles. Krookodile is a terrifying (poke)monster, with great dual STAB and coverage that also have good support moves in Stealth Rock and Taunt. Few things can switch on Krookodile, but many mons can check it easily, like dozens of bulky waters and most fighting types. Roserade can check and counter most of those bulky waters easily, while also being able to win 1v1 against most of fighting types too. Roserade also has a good variety of options, going from defensive to offensive sets depending on your needs. The sets are really open to your needs, since it's their typing + natural bulk + useful abilities what makes this core so good together. Also I wanted to take Tentacruel but it's already taken. Overall this a great staple core for balance or offensive-oriented teams that any good UUer have already thought or probably used.

Krookodile @ Choice Band
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Roserade @ Black Sludge
