Approved Undo (or swap) individual selections during the team preview

Currently, when building your team and clicking "Cancel", the entire selection is reset. I'd like to suggest the option to undo only the most recent selections, one by one — for example, removing just the sixth Pokémon without losing the first five, then the fifth, and so on.

This would be especially useful in formats with Team Preview, where choosing the right team is a key part of the strategy — especially when the timer is running out, and there’s no time to restart everything, but still enough time to adjust the last one, two, or even three picks.

The solution could be a “undo last choice” button or any other approach the team finds appropriate — as long as it gives players more control and flexibility during team selection.

Another solution that I thought would be nice would be, instead of cancel, a “swap” button. Want to just swap someone you've chosen with someone you haven't chosen instead of canceling everything? Fine, just swap the ones you want to change.

An example below, I have 10 seconds on the image, I no longer have time to undo everything if I want to change something in what I have chosen.

The example you give appears to be a format that has more than 6 Pokemon available at Team Preview, but you can only bring 6. In ordinary play with Team Preview, we only let the player choose their team order if:
  • The player can only bring some of their full team to the battle (like Battle Stadium Singles, where you bring 6, pick 3)
  • The player has a Pokemon with Illusion (so they can more conveniently order their party)
So this isn't about Team Preview by itself, but rather Team Preview with a significant amount of Pokemon.

In your specific case, what are you wanting to swap around here? For example, swapping Heatran for Charizard doesn't have any competitive impact. It wouldn't matter if Heatran was 5th or 2nd. But if you want to change your lead to Charizard, all you have to do is cancel and select Charizard, then the other 5 you wanted to use. The order of the remaining Pokemon doesn't matter. That really doesn't take that much time, does it? But even if it does, I would think you should have to take time to change your decisions. Like, if you want to make a new decision (i.e. change your lead), it should take up decision time to do so. If it doesn't use up decision time, that means you could be "mid-swap", so to speak, and the battle would begin without you having completed your decision.

I also am not aware of any ladderable format we support that requires you pick 6 Pokemon other than the B12P6 Shared Power Random Battles ladder. But that uses the standard timer across all Pokemon Showdown battles, which means you have 150 seconds at Team Preview. Surely that's enough time at the start of the battle to choose your Pokemon, and if it's not, you probably should be speaking with the maintainers of that format to increase the amount of time. I don't think this swap suggestion should be implemented.

I'm approving. It may be superfluous for Team Preview, but I think it makes sense for Doubles move choices, to be able to go back one choice at a time. I can also see it useful in Doubles where you want to change the second slot in Team Preview, or something like that.
