Data Usage-Based Tier Update for April 2019 (May @ #41) (June @ #75)

I haven't played OU in ages so I'm pretty out of touch with the current Gen 7 OU Meta, but assuming Clangy Dragon moving up is real and isn't a joke (which at this point it seems it's actually real), might I ask how it suddenly became so popular? Not that I mind, but it was pretty much unseen in the OU metagame for the majority of the generation and was always kind of an underwhelming Pokemon there so I'm curious if something changed for Kommo-o that suddenly made it a good and popular choice in OU, or if someone discovered viable ways to use it/good niches for it in the OU meta. If it's actually good and viable and seen in high level play I'm sure there's probably some very good niches for it now that caused its usage to rise.

It basically replaced Zygarde as a HO staple.

Kommo-o isn't good, it has decent role compression and has a decent niche on stall, buts its underwhelming overall and the only reason it rose is because its on one of the ou sample teams. Also the ru ladder is so fucked lmao. You've got dogshit mons like Jolteon, M-banette, Umbreon, cloyster etc that are still somehow hanging around, while actual good mons like Barbaracle, M-abomasnow, Slowking and Missy are somehow getting next to no usage.

Also stop using skarm, at least mimikyu and kommo-o have an actual niche in ou.

Ever since USM released its signature z move kommo-o has had usage that was disproportionate to its viability (it was unranked until a few months ago) and it was just sort of a low ladder meme hanging out a few rungs below the OU cutoff for a while, but people higher up on the ladder started realizing that it wasn't terrible a couple of months ago and it started showing up on the occasional RMT or sample team. Zygarde getting banned made even more people look into it as a sort of alternative.
I've played around with it a lot, and it's pretty fun.

I see that only the 1630/1695 stats have been released so far. I know those are the stats that most people care about, so it's good that they were able to come out first, but will the 0/1500/1760/1825 stats still be coming later?

I'm honestly surprised Kommo-o got to OU, and this is coming from someone who has used it a lot in the tier. While It's by no means a bad mon (at least not as it was in SM) and it's good natural bulk and resistances do give it far more switch-in options + setup fodder one would expect, the tapus, Magearna and Clef being so common hurt it's viability a ton.

Even more surprising to me is that apparently it's the awful Z move the reason it rose in usage when the Sub Salac Belly Drum set is - unironically - clearly the best one, and that's taking into account how Kommo-o has to choose it's checks and counters, how it relies on HO + Sticky Web and how it needs things like Scarf Lati@s, Hawlucha and Unaware mons flat out gone to be a proper win-con of mass destruction.

Then again, I haven't been playing as much lately so maybe someone figured out a way to make his Z move work???

Yeah, I changed the scripts to process 1630/1695 first because that's all you need to do these tier shifts. The rest still takes 16-17 hours of processing after that, which is why I only put up what exists when I post shifts, and everything else a day later. (coming soon!) Crimes Of Lower Tiers:

UU:Complaints about OU being taken clanger or many ladder spam mons from their tier yet they refuses to remember that they stealed so many defensive mons from RU.

RU:Complaints about UU stealing their mons and not giving something useful drop(particularly crobat) yet they refuses to believe that they keep so many ladder bait mons and they even took uxie from NU and tries to take electrode from PU cuz they like screens.

NU:Complaints about RU ladder being silly(at some point hating UU) yet they teases PU/ZU by being try to look generous at first and destroys their hopes via don t giving their defensive mons(also some cute offensive mons)/torterra.

PU:Complaints about NU being so mean to them as ladder wise yet they refuses to remember that they stealed many mons from ZU(mainly grass types) and never give anything back.

ZU:Good boi.Has no crimes.
