Project USUM NU Lure That Threat v2 [Week 8: Sceptile]

Braviary @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bulk Up
- Brave Bird
- Superpower
- Roost

Offensive BU Braviary is consistent at luring traditional bird-resists such as Diancie, Rhydon, Steelix etc. and something to give defensively inclined teams a headache. Don't run Defog unless your waters lol.

Broken burd xatxat will most of the time hardswitch into your eternally-looking toad in order to prevent your stealth rocks. What your standard xatu abuser doesn't know is that you're using some big heat seismitoad.
well calcs will explain it better than words, just see for yourself:
252 SpA Seismitoad Hydro Vortex (185 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Xatu: 304-358 (91 - 107.1%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO (hydro pump)
252 SpA Seismitoad Hydro Vortex (160 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Xatu: 262-310 (78.4 - 92.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (scald)
hydro pump also 2HKOes 252 hp xatu but has less pp, lacks a perfect accuracy and unlike scald doesnt burn.
on the last slot you can run either endeavor or grass knot to bop slowbro, didn't experienced much with it but i think z grass knot could be usable here to lure bulky water (while hydro pump is still 2HKOing Xatu).
outside of being able to lure and set rocks against xatu, seismitoad can also blanket check a lot of things (heliolisk, incineroar, slowbro, steelix...)

Poison Fang has 50% of chance of badly poison the target, and is the only way to badly poison Xatu without Mold Breaker, isnt a great damage move or OHKO lure, but helps a lot to wear down easily Xatu, also is a good partner of rockers that dont set on Xatu, like Torterra and Steelix.

Not really a lure, more just that you force Xatu to switch in by threatening Spikes and then 2hko with Gunk Shot.

One of the main reasons why Xatu is used so much is exactly because of how well it nullifies any standard lix (as in, toxic hslam eq/tect sr). Special lix, on the other hand, straight up ignores that as both DPulse and FCannon 2hko the totem bird. It can also do other fun stuff such as 2hkoing AV Slowbro (with SR), Palossand, Dhelmise, among other 'mons but thats not the point of this post. Running 40 hp is also a possibility to hit 301 hp (thus avoiding the 3hko from Night shade) but

252+ SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Steelix Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Xatu: 252-299 (75.4 - 89.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Here's a cool Samurott set that can act as a good lure to Heliolisk. Most people would just assume they win the fight here and leave Heliolisk in to Thunderbolt, but then it gets outspeeded (usually) and OHKOd by Superpower in return. The reason I say usually is because Heliolisk is known to run Choice Scarf sets, which are fairly common in my experience, so it is good to be careful. Outside of that matchup, you are better off running other Choice Scarf users. Hell, Passimian might even work better here. Just be careful when building with this set, and only put it on a team if you need to, since it's not very splashable by any means.

I used this paired with some mon that takes advantage from Vileplume being easily killed (Heliolisk, Whimsicott, Tspikes) and I was honestly surprised of how this set worked on its own. Last move (knoff) can be replaced by U-Turn if you want to fake a choice scarf set but Knoff is good, since it can even break Golbat with Acro, if used properly.

- Leaf Blade
- Acrobatics

i don't think fling unburden sceptile is an original idea by any means, but i decided to use this for that brazilian snake tournament right when i saw this mon gets unburden. it's really great at luring a lot of typical sceptile SIs and sweeping from there. plume is commonly paired with fat waters, meaning you can bring sceptile in, scare them out, set up, and win. or you can get the fling off earlier and acro the plume as they try to switch in or whatever. it adds a lot of layers to play, so it's kinda hard to describe. on paper it looks like a longshot, but honestly, i've had it work really nicely in a ton of games (anecdotal evidence, i know). rare bone / hard stone / a fossil is for max fling BP without hindering you, but you can also run light ball for the para (this is what i originally had).

scep acro is OHKOing all spdef and mixed variants of vileplume with acro after an SD, and fling -> acro has a good chance of killing most after rocks. vs max pdef variants, it's in your favor to kill with +2 acro after rocks.

calcs:
+2 252 Atk Sceptile Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Vileplume: 288-340 (81.3 - 96%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock, hail damage, and Black Sludge recovery

252 Atk Sceptile Crunch vs. 252 HP / 64 Def Vileplume: 87-103 (24.5 - 29%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock, hail damage, and Black Sludge recovery
->
252 Atk Sceptile Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 64 Def Vileplume: 192-226 (54.2 - 63.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock, hail damage, and Black Sludge recovery
