UU Champions

Welcome everyone, this is my first UU RMT, I've done one NU RMT before. I have experience making teams, but I don't have experience playing UU. This is where you come in, and provide me with important information on the tier and how my team should handle common Pokemon Sets. So far the team has shown promise but I have been caught out a lot due to inexperience in the tier.

So here are my UU Champions (more correctly trying to become champions)

[pimg]68[/pimg]

Machamp @ Leftovers
Trait: No Guard
EVs: 252 Atk / 200 HP / 56 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Dynamic Punch
- Stone Edge
- Ice Punch
- Substitute

I decided first that I wanted a Mon that was powerful, had disruptive potential against a team, and could fare well against more defensively oriented teams. I fashioned Machamp after Golurk in NU. Dynamic Punch is very useful and quite powerful, forcing an opponent to switch or risk the 50/50 confusion. This is quite important to the team, as it helps slow the game down and provide opportunities to turn the tide of the game, especially if I manage to get a free Sub. I took this from Smogon since it looked good to me, and Ice Punch has been handy for Gligar and other Ground types. It seems to be less useful against very offensive teams I've found, since they typically have powerful attacks that Machamp can't take well, plus he's slow. I am considering Bullet Punch but I don't know yet. He seems to be the weakest link despite his usefulness and general importance, so I'm open to suggestions (would love to keep him though).

[pimg]31[/pimg]

Nidoqueen (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Earth Power
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Beam
- Fire Blast/Focus Blast

Next we have Nidoqueen. She's my Rock setter, and I decided that I needed a wallbreaker that had enough bulk to switch into weak attacks and status, and retaliate immediately with powerful Sheer Force/LO hits (so yummy). Her resistance to Rocks is quite handy, and she has pretty good synergy with Umbreon I've found, resisting the Bug and Fighting types aimed at the doggy. I'm stuck a little bit with the moveset, since Snorlax comes in super easy again this guy, and with 2 other Fire attacks in my team, I'm wondering if I should run Focus Blast instead of Fire Blast. Then again Bronzong had been annoying me when I ran FoB instead, so if anyone can help me out here, please do.

[pimg]59[/pimg]

Arcanine @ Life Orb
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 176 Spd / 252 Atk / 72 HP / 8 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Flare Blitz
- ExtremeSpeed
- Crunch
- Morning Sun

Now we have Arcanine, one of our first Sweepers. I've noticed a theme already that my attackers have pretty good bulk, I guess that's my playstyle. More importantly, Arcanine was my 2nd physical sweeper I decided to add, and I wanted something that could hit hard and fast for revenge killing. I was using Scarf Darmanitan before, but ironically powerful fire types were giving me trouble and Blastoise couldn't take all those hits, so I decided to try Arcanine with Flash Fire, and he's been very useful for me. I'm surprised how damn powerful he is with just base 110 Atk, and Extremespeed has really helped in tight situations where I'm facing a frail attacker like Weavile. I opted for Morning Sun instead of CC since LO/Rocks/Recoil wear him down pretty fast, and switching him in for Wish heals is really risky, since even tanks could take me down from a predicted switch after Rocks. I chose Crunch over Wild Charge cuz recoil, and a more reliable way to take care of Chandelure, who is quite a pain to deal with.

[pimg]9[/pimg]

Blastoise @ Leftovers
Trait: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Toxic
- Roar

Next we have my favourite starter, Blastoise. You can't tell me those cannons aren't cool. I wanted a good defensive Mon that could phaze, spin and tank physical hits, and this guy fits the bill. A little research showed me that physical fire types are dangerous, which is why I chose this guy over say Hitmontop. I run double status cuz I like to Scald Chandelure switches and burn some key physical threats, but I also want Toxic to hit switch-ins like Slowbro or say Cofragrigus who can spin-block me. It's been working pretty well so far but if someone can suggest a more efficient set or EV spread, let me know.

[pimg]197[/pimg]

Umbreon @ Leftovers
Trait: Synchronize
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Careful Nature
- Heal Bell
- Wish
- Foul Play
- Protect

Another thing I noticed, all my Mons are Gen 1 except this guy. In all my teams, I try to add a Mon that acts as a "glue" to help support the functions of my team, or regain momentum. I happened upon Umbreon, who conveniently had excellent Special Walling capabilities as well as Wish. I instantly realised how valuable he could be in my team, and I'm not afraid to say he is my MVP. Heal Bell is so important to my team, so I can brush off any status holding me back. I've noticed speed is quite important in UU, so clearing Paralysis off Zapdos and Arcanine is a priority. Wish is probably tied with Heal Bell in terms of importance. Taking into account the overall bulkiness of my team, I can often switch my pokes out at around 40-60% hp and send a Wish out to them to make them ready to destroy the enemy team all over again. It's not hard to find a time to Wish, and then switch to an appropriate Mon to heal, that counters the Mon the enemy sent to hurt Umbreon. Foul Play so he's not Taunt fodder. UMBREON MUST NOT DIE EARLY, he is too important.

[pimg]145[/pimg]

ZappaDDoS @ Life Orb
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Heat Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Roost
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Last and most certainly least (jk), ZappaDDoS. I renamed him after noticing he was responsible for several ragequits after I destroyed enemy team single-handedly with it, akin to a DDoS attack. He is my next Special Attacker, and is brutally powerful. I can't provide damage calcs, but this guy does about 36% with TBolt to defensive Snorlax, SNORLAX. His handy typing (despite Rock weakness) lets me switch into stuff like Heracross Dual-STAB and get a free hit on something (I've seen of a lot of these guys scarfed). I opted for the Smogon build, so I could hit Grass Types harder, as well as Steel types like Bronzong, who is pretty damn annoying. I also have Roost, alongside Wish support, since it's not always a good idea to Wish to him (remember Rock Weakness like Arcanine) and often if they have something like Snorlax or Umbreon, it's better to just take the opportunity to recover with a free Roost.

So there we have it, my UU Champions. They are not quite Champions so I'm hoping you can all provide me with some suggestions and advice on how to deal with the meta and some important threats posed by them. If there's anything positive I should keep, inform me of this too. I'd really like to keep Machamp by the way, but I understand if he has to go :(

Thank you everyone

Team looks good for your first try at uu! Just a few points.
1. You can actually have golurk over machamp tbh. I've been using a modified version of white queens golurk and its a great pivot on my team. Its a hard counter to heracross/mienshao. The set I've been using is below, evs/strategy from white queen
golurk@leftovers
iron fist
impish nature
252 hp/ 152 def/52 sp def/ 52 speed
1. Stealth rock
2. Shadow punch
3. Drain punch
4. Earthquake

You can opt for dynamice punch and no guard over drain punch/iron fist but I like recovery.
2. Nidoqueen is good, but alter the ev spread to 96 hp/252 sp attack/160 speed to outpace opposing nidoquees and have focus blast/ fire blast/ ice beam/ earth power (frees up a move if you have sr on golurk)
3. don't run crunch on arcanine, what do you need to hit that espeed/fb hits doesn't hit hard? Slowbro is bulky enough to tank crunches and wild charges, leave zapdos to handle slowbro. Cc hits snorlax, which your team has trouble handling if machamp/golurk are down.
4.blastoise is okay, not really needed on your team but is okay.
5. Calm >careful and 0 attack ivs on umbreon to give foul play the most bang.
6. Hp grass over hp ice to hit rhyperior/swampert/quagsire. You have ice beam from nidoqueen.

Overaall, good team!

Hello there! Firstly, nice team. Glad you're trying out UU, my favorite tier :D! Some things to fix though:

Firstly, I see that you say Machamp is your weakest link. I agree; Machamp doesn't provide much that Mienshao can't do, other than take a hit initially. I suggest a Scarf or LO Mienshao over Machamp, because while Machamp can take moves noticably better, Mienshao's speed and dominance is something I think your team will appreciate more. I personally prefer scarf, but if you want LO, go right ahead. Plus, Regenerator allows mienshao to actually last longer, since he'll be switching around.

Next, I'm going to second Patrick1088's suggestion of Putting HP Grass over HP ice on Zapdos. Hitting Swampert and Rhyperior is just way more important than hitting gligar, since you have ice beam on your team already. Again going off Patrick's suggestion, use the EV spread he suggested for Nidoqueen. You'll outpace opposing 156 Speed Nidoqueen, and also outspeed opposing 0 speed Blastoise, something your Nidoqueen would really enjoy.

Even with these minute flaws, great team. Good luck and hope I helped!

Thanks for the feedback, Golurk has been testing quite well so far. But I've recently found SD Virizion to be a huge threat to this team if it gets an SD off. I've managed to play around so far with a few switches, but it's very dangerous. So Golurk has been testing weak against this certain threat, I will search for alternatives to help deal with Virizion. The EV changes have in fact helped so thank you.

Also, a tiny suggestion from my part: Since you don't run manual rain, I think there is no reason for rain dish on Blastoise. A strong hit could take you to torrent range, letting you fire off a more powerful scald.
It's a really unreliable strategy (I wouldn't even call it a strategy) but then again rain dish won't help you at all.
The only situation it would help you in would be the opponent running a RD Kingdra and you trying to stall out his rain turns with sub/protect, which you don't even have on your Blastoise, so...
Go Torrent.

Also I agree with Patrick but the set i'd use for Golurk is a tanky one like this
Golurk @ Leftovers
Impish/Adamant Nature
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Stealth Rock
Dynamic Punch
Ice Punch/Stone Edge/Shadow Punch
Earthquake

Hey, nice team. First of all I really like your use of Umbreon as a glue element on an otherwise quite offensive team. Now for some changes.

I second all of Iminyourcloset's thoughts, especially Scarf Mienshao over Machamp. The thing this team most suffers from is the lack of a late-game cleaner/fast mon, especially since most of your team does well against Mienshao's checks and counters. Just standard Scarf Mienshao with HiJumpKick/Stone Edge/U-turn/Aerial Ace. Reckless and Regenerator are both options, but I prefer Reckless because Mienshao shouldn't be taking too much damage anyway. Try both and see what works.

Secondly, though Blastoise looks good with your rocks weak Pokemon I really don't think you need it. Your team is rather offensive with three Life Orb mons, and Blastoise just kills the momentum. You can make your opponent pay for getting up hazards using your ridiculous offensive momentum, plus you have Wish support and recovery moves on both your SR weak mons. Factor in that spinning is no easy task these days, and it seems you could do better than Blastoise. A bulky Fire-resist is still pretty handy for this team, so I'd suggest replacing Blastoise with one that doesn't give away so much momentum. Choice Band Rhyperior and Choice Band Swampert both look like splendid Pokemon for the job, both hitting like trucks and being able to take a hit or two, especially with Wish support. I'd go with Swampert since Water attacks are always nice, but you should try both.

Lastly, Umbreon also gives up the momentum this team needs like Blastoise, but the support it provides is first-rate. With that in mind, I think you should use Baton Pass over one of Umbreon's moves. It's hard to choose whether to replace Heal Bell, Foul Play, or Protect, as Wish is obviously crucial. I'd think Foul Play is the most replaceable, as you can simply Baton Pass out to something that hits hard like Foul Play rather than using Foul Play itself. Yes, Taunt is a little annoying, but it's not common enough in UU for it to be too worrisome. Still, I'd try it over things besides Foul Play as well to see if there's another more worth dropping. I don't like replacing Protect as scouting Choice users and getting more reliable Wish recovery really helps, but Heal Bell could be worth leaving off.

Machamp --> Choice Scarf Mienshao

Foul Play (maybe) --> Baton Pass on Umbreon

Blastoise --> CB Swampert

Set:

Swampert @ Choice Band
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 208 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 44 Spe
Nature: Adamant
-Waterfall
-Earthquake
-Ice Punch
-Superpower/Hammer Arm (probably the former because they'll just switch to a Fighting resist after you use Hammer Arm, so the atk/def drop isn't too relevant)

Solid team, hope I could make it even solider, and good luck! See you on the ladder.

Hmm nidoqueen should be good to handle virizion seeing as how leaf blade is the only neutral attack. But, virizions high sp def is annoying. I can't get on a damage calculator, but. I think arcanines espeed should cleanly 2hko virizion. If it is that much of. A pain, you could try scarf mienshao or stallbreaker crobat who can cleanly ohko with aerial ace/brave bird, respectively.

But, choosing these two forces you. To choose between coverage/stealth rock on nidoqueen. A change that could work is to run intimidate on arcanine which woud put pressure on virizion to boost (alowing you the 2hko with espeed), switch out, or try koing with stone edge. Flash fire is good, but the main fire poke I uu is chandy and maybe houndoom, both easily handled by umbreon.
