UU Team | Top 50

So I've played UU for a little bit, trying to get away from OU. I left during the suspect testing to get some fresh air. This is my second UU team since then. My first and this team have brought me into the top 50 on Smogon's UU ladder, but I like my current team more. Rate away!

And even tho I'm in the top 50, I'm still relatively new and sometimes am very unprepared for certain pokes/sets.

At a Glance!

Venusaur (F) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 236 HP/20 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Leaf Storm
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Leech Seed

My lead. Specs for the power. Leaf storm is a killer, 2HKO on nearly everything that doesn't 4x resist. People usually think I'm a status lead, so I've gotten some free damage. I don't think Leech Seed is super useful, so I'm debating on just switching it over to sleep powder. I also don't have a sleep absorber, but I'm a bit reluctant to use a choiced talker.

Crawdaunt (F) @ Choice Band
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 70 HP/252 Atk/188 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Crabhammer
- Crunch
- X-Scissor
- Aerial Ace

I used to have a bulk up, subpunch Poliwrath here before, but decided that I had too many set up pokes and not enough quick power. Right now this is the most replaceable poke, but does offer a nice psychic immunity and fire/water resist. Does some good damage, but is frail and requires free switchins to work.

Ninetales (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Spd/252 SAtk/4 SDef
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Nasty Plot
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Rock]
- Energy Ball

I'm surprised that other people don't use this set. Max speed with +nature helps outrun a ton of threats. Ninetales also completes my grass, water, fire trifecto of resistences/move coverage. Come in on a WoW or Fire attack and/or force a switch to NP. Sweep away! HP Rock for great coverage.

Steelix (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 HP/120 Atk/136 SDef
Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Earthquake
- Gyro Ball
- Stealth Rock
- Roar

A very normal physical tank. SR + Roar for utility, and I needed a phazer. Haven't found a real need for Stone Edge. Love this guy. Stops nearly all physical sweepers in UU without CC and can take a hit on the special side. Gyro Ball does an obscence amount of damage to fast sweepers.

dpffb426.png

Drifblim (F) @ Petaya Berry
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 144 Def/52 Spd/252 SAtk/60 SDef
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Substitute
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fighting]

My midgame sweeper. Come in, set a sub, then get to work. Petaya + Unburden gives +1 Sp.A, +1 Spe just for being at 25%. CM + Shadow Ball + HP Fighting just gives unresisted sweeping ability. Most teams are not well equipped against this treat.

Clefable (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP/152 Def/4 Spd/100 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Thunder Wave
- Encore
- Softboiled
- Seismic Toss

The bread of my team. She can take a hit on both sides. Softboied for healing, scouting, stalling, whatever. Works well with T-Wave, healing until a hax moment. Encore is meant to setup all of my team. I have great resistances waiting, so I have ample resources to go to after an encore. SToss for the ridiculous damage with no EV investment. 100 hp is a lot in UU. Can't make a UU team without her.

---

There's my team! I hope my explanations were clear. I'm having a bit of trouble with Claydol's with Sp.A investment. Otherwise I've usually managed to climb the UU ladder with patience and experience. This team has only gone thru one change (polywrath > crawdunt) and has been successful pretty much all the way. Give it that extra kick to make sure I don't fall out of the top 50. Thanks!

Heh, Sleep Powder on Venusaur will cripple most switch ins, and considering your only form of status on your team is Thunder Wave I think you'll benefit a lot more from Sleep Powder rather then Leech Seed. :p I can see how Leech Seed can cripple Shedinja though, but that's about it.

I'm also quite curious to know how you deal with Rain Dance teams. Clefable cannot switch in unless something has died as it's 2HKOd by most swift swimmers. I would've tested out Toxicroak a bit, as it together with Clefable counter most Rain Dance teams. :] Also, Toxicroak would give you an answer to CM Clefable, who seems to give you a real hard time.

I haven't seen that many rain dance teams. Toxicroak sounds intersting, but I wouldn't like to have 2 poison types on my team, as the common pyschics and earthquakes would become a pain.

CM Clefable gets Encored by my own clefable. If I don't catch them on the CM, they usally run the fighting ghost combo, so I can switch from there.

I'm currently testing rest talk hp fly surf mantine over crawdunt with mixed success.

Impressive, but Lacking

uh first of all Venusaur is outclassed as a Grass lead by Roserade, who commonly runs Sleep Powder, is faster, immune to Leech Seed, has Focus Sash for the HP Ice you have, and has HP Fire to bring down Steel and Grass types. I don't like her as much as some other leads like Ambipom or Persian with Fake Out to break a Sash, but I use her for some of her surprise value and better speed than Venusaur. Your team needs a cleric, someone who can get rid of status, I have a team devoted to statusing someone's entire team and it works wonders. I have ever form of status in it except attraction and burn. Your team gets owned by any Pokemon fast enough to set up such as Mismagius, who can take your Ninetales all day long with Calm Mind and then proceed to sweep the rest of your team with Shadow Ball and HP Fighting. Mismagius is too commonly used for people not to know how to handle her. Where is your Rapid Spinner? You have two teammates who take 25% of their health from SR, and Spikes demolishes your entire team except Drifblim. Toxic Spikes hits your main sweepers, and no, Drifblim takes way too much time to set up, he is outclassed by the faster Mismagius as a CM sweeper. Yes, Crawdaunt is too fragile to come in too much, and most people run one of two things, a very strong water or a bulky one, Crawdaunt is walled by his own moves. Steelix works pretty well actually, since the surprise factor in not using Curse is scary for most. He isn't a physical tank if he has no Defense EVs, so why call him that without abusing his ability to skyrocket to 400 and something Defense. 200 Base Defense is impressive, but Steelix will never stop a sweep from a Fighting type, Drifblim is your best bet, and he is nailed by Stone Edge, a common move for Hitmonlee and the like. Normally, you want to outfit your team to survive and thrive in a hostile environment, and as well as having a counter to nearly everything. Your team is surprisingly Moltres weak, who I see could potentially sweep your entire team, perhaps your two walls or Ninetales could handle him though. I can't argue with your Clefable though, she remains a huge threat, but can't take too many odd Fighting attacks. I don't quite know how you might replace some of your teammates to counter common threats, but it's your team, and I assume you have had enough success with it to know what to do even though it doesn't look promising. Good Luck with uh, UU!

What exactly do the Speed EV's in Crawdaunt help you speed? iirc Crawdaunt is too slow to outspeed anything either way, I'd put more EV's in HP.

uh first of all Venusaur is outclassed as a Grass lead by Roserade, who commonly runs Sleep Powder, is faster, immune to Leech Seed, has Focus Sash for the HP Ice you have, and has HP Fire to bring down Steel and Grass types.
That would be an OU Roserade... It should never be running a focus sash, and Hp fire is not that helpful at all either.
Generally lead Roserades are Scarf'd or LO'd for fast sleeps, and scary strong STAB attacks. Sludge Bomb from Roserade only has 5 less base power than her STAB Sludge Bomb against Venusaur... not worth it.

Anyway, this team is rather Moltres weak. LO variants are the real problem since clefable can usually handle the stall one long enough w/ encore. Even with max/ max Clefable cant take 2 Modest max sp. atk. Fire Blasts. Ninetails isn't a very safe switch w/ the threat of a LO Boosted, STAB Air Slash.

Chansey is really the only thing that walls it effectively since Umbreon is going to OU... and he couldn't do it that well anyway. As it stands, Chansey isn't the best idea for this team... Azumarill is a decent check to Moltress as it can take an Air Slash or Fire Blast and then use Aqua Jet for a healthy chunk of hurt. It can replace your Crawdaunt. However, that doesn't stop it from simply switching out, and tbh I rarely allow myself to lose my Moltress over an Azumarill, so its a pretty meh check at best.

I think Sharpedo would be a good replacement for Crawdaunt - same attack stat, but has the ability to run a mixed set with much better speed. A mixed set @LO with Waterfall, Ice Beam, Surf, and Crunch/Earthquake really has the potential to hurt. Zen Headbutt is also a good option against Roserade, who can survive Ice Beam.

Other than that, nice team, good to see some rarer Pokémon on a Top 50 team.

stop replying to this, it was from september guys, thats why all of his pokes are from "old uu."
