UU Team

So this is my first ever team, and i prefer UU to OU any day so that's what i went for :)
I've been having a few problems, namely mismagius and rotom and my huge SR weakness coupled with either of these two usually ends up with me losing, but it's been doing pretty well normally.

-The Lead-

ambipom.png

Ambipom@Silk Scarf
Ability:Technician
Nature:Adamant
EVs:4HP/252ATK/252SPE

Fake Out
U-turn
Return
Payback

Pretty standard flinch & flee lead, lots of fun to abuse.
I chose muscle band over life orb because a lot of steelix and registeels switch in to my fake out, and i dont want to waste 10% of my health doing about 3% damage to them (after leftovers)
I used to have silk scarf and return but the aforementioned ghosts were able to wreak total havoc on my team so i switched to payback. Still find it very difficult to deal with mismagius but rotom is just about manageable.

-Sweepers-

moltres.png

Moltres@Life Orb
Ability:Pressure
Nature:Modest
EVs:68HP/252SPA/188SPE

Air Slash
Fire Blast
Will-o-Wisp
Roost

I stole this EV spread from the featured RMT in the smog but i'm not sure if more speed would be better over the HP EVs. I usually switch straight to Moltres after a U-turn, avoiding SR setup in the process. Fire Blast seems to miss a lot for me but i'm sticking with it, moltres causes a lot of switches so it doesnt usually cause too many problems.

yanmega.png

Yanmega@Wise Glasses
Ability:Speed Boost
Nature:Modest
EVs:4HP/252SPA/252SPE

Protect
Air Slash
Bug Buzz
Shadow Ball

Late-game sweeper and my favourite on the team. I usually leave yanmega until later on and then surprise my opponent with a sweep and this happens surprisingly often, even after SR damage. Shadow Ball is my only other Mismagius/Rotom counter but as they both carry thunderbolt it doesnt normally pay off, especially if mismagius is hiding behind a substitute. Did try Choice Scarf with Tinted Lens but i prefer being able to change attacks and one speed boost gets to the choice scarf speed after just one turn.

-Special Sponge-

lanturn.png

Lanturn@Leftovers
Ability:Volt Absorb
Nature:Calm
EVs:40HP/136SPA/252SPD/80SPE

Surf
Thunderbolt
Ice Beam
Thunder Wave

My favourite pokemon ever and really good fun as well. I love switching in to Milotic surfs and thunderbolting away or making her switch. Thunder Wave over Toxic has worked out fine for me, but i don't know which one would be better if i'm honest. I just prefer the accuracy of Thunder Wave. I sometimes get a bit over confident and stay in to take a roserade Leaf Storm and end up fainting... bad times. Tempted to switch to RestTalk set as toxic annoys me a lot and would be a lot better in terms of defenses, would this be better overall?

-Physical Sweeper-

drapion.png

Drapion@Scope Lens
Ability:Sniper
Nature:Jolly
EVs:252ATK/4DEF/252SPE

Swords Dance
Night Slash
Earthquake
Brick Break

I needed a physical sweeper to go along with my 2 special sweepers, and after trying out a few (Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, CurseRegirock) I came across Drapion and it's been excellent. Swords Dance+Sniper+Scope Lens+Night Slash=Enormous damage. Can take a few hits with its good defences and 1 weakness too. Changed Ice Fang to Brick Break to make Chansey and the ever problematic Clefable easier to beat.

-Rapid Spinner-

claydol.png

Claydol@Leftovers
Ability:Levitate
Nature:Bold
EVs:252HP/114SPA/144SPD

Rapid Spin
Stealth Rock
Earth Power
Psychic

The much needed rapid spinner. After finding that Donphan doesn't do enough damage and Blastoise just adds to my electric weakness, I chose Claydol. Ground and Electric Immunities are very helpful and i can almost always get Rapid Spin off and Stealth Rocks up, leaving time for a little bit of offense. Not too much though...
Psychic and Earth Power purlet for the STAB. IMO there's no point having Shadow Ball because almost all of the Ghosts can outspeed for a KO of their own.

-Notes-
Started off as a UU/BL team with Gallade and Shaymin instead of Yanmega and Donphan but seeing as there's no option for that on Shoddy, I had to get rid. Also, CM Slowbro in place of Donphan was forced out after lots of criticism :)

Thanks for any help :)

Hello, this team seems okay, but there are a few things I'd suggest:

On Ambipom, Brick Break really doesn't do nearly enough damage to Steel/Rock-types to merit using, so I suggest either Taunt, Return, or Double Hit in its place. Taunt allows you to prevent SR from being set up in the first place, which really helps Moltres and Yanmega, while the latter two provide you with a more reliable STAB attack. Muscle Band just doesn't seem like a great item option imo, so if you use one of the latter two attacks I would consider changing to a Silk Scarf. Overall the two items are about even, though, and I agree that Life Orb just isn't worth it.

Since you mainly use Yanmega as a late-game sweeper, I suggest you use a Choice Scarf Yanmega over your current set.

Yanmega @ Choice Scarf
Modest nature
Tinted Lens (ability)
4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
~ Bug Buzz
~ Air Slash
~ Hidden Power Ground / Hidden Power Ice
~ U-turn

Wide Lens provides a really weak power boost, so this set won't really miss it. Besides, Tinted Lens makes up for it by essentially hitting almost everything for at least neutral, so you can spam Bug Buzz around with impunity. Air Slash and Hidden Power are for coverage, while U-Turn allows you to scout while dealing some decent damage. Scarf compensates for the loss of Speed Boost.

I don't especially like the Slowbro set, since you already have Lanturn to take special hits and CM Slowbro is just asking to be Pursuit/Chansey bait. Speaking of Chansey, none of your Pokemon really hit Chansey very hard since most of your Pokemon are special attackers. As a result, I suggest that you add a physical or mixed attacker to your team in place of Slowbro. No suggestions atm though, sorry.

Lastly, if you want to deal with your Ghost problem even more I suggest changing Donphan's Ice Shard to Assurance, which deals a ton of damage to Rotom and Mismagius.

That's it for now, gl with your team!

ok, i'll definitely go for return & silk scarf on ambipom and assurance on donphan, but i'm not too confident about choice scarf yanmega, mainly personal preference because i don't like choice and im worried about having to switch if i haven't managed to spin. Definitely worth a try though, thanks.

Well, if you're still open to switching out Donphan I'd suggest Blastoise. The first Rapid Spinner is still very effective in UU. I suggest this set

Blastoise@ Leftovers
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP, 126 SpD, 126 Def.
-Yawn
-Rapid Spin
-Surf
-Ice Beam

You can play with the EVs (I know they're not very complex) but with this spread he can survive an amazing amount of damage. What I suggest doing is Yawn the first turn, forcing their Ghost switch in to switch right back out so you can spin away rocks. Surf is STAB, and Ice Beam if you can predict a Roserade switch in or need a way to stop Altaria.

Edit: You might want to actually switch out Slowbro for this set (as Lanturn has Special tanking pretty much covered) and either take RS off of Donphan and go for pure attacking power or add another physical sweeper. Just an idea.

Thankyou! Definitely switching Donphan for Blastoise, and i've put a curse regirock in instead of Slowbro. I'd prefer a fast physical sweeper but there aren't many around in UU, and this has good tanking ability too:

Regirock@Leftovers
Ability:Clear Body
Nature:Careful
EVs:252HP/4ATK/252SPD
-Curse
-Stone Edge
-Hammer Arm
-Ice Punch

Any physical sweeper suggestions?

if you want to counter chansey with hitmonchan try the sub-punch version.

HItmonchan@blackbelt
{adamant}
evs: 252 attack / 252 speed / 4 hp
ability: iron fist
- FOcus punch
- Substitute
- Mach punch
- ice punch

a 74 power priority move, a 250 power move, and perfect coverage with a 90 power ice punch this guy packs a punch. NO pun intended.

Changed to Blasoise but i'm going to test this SubPunch Hitmonchan before making it definite. Looks good though, cheers.

Problems:

Lack of hazards
Electric weakness

How to fix:

Lack of hazards on an offensive team is not good. With Stealth Rock or even later of Spike can make a difference which can turn some 2HKOs to OHKOs. My suggestion is keeping Donphan for Blastoise for your Rapin Spinner. Adds an extra electric resist, Stealth Rock and a solid Rapid Spin user.

Donphan
@ Leftovers
Impish Nature (Def+ / SpA-)
252 HP / 252 Def / 6 Spe

- Earthquake
- Assurance
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock

This set is great on the UU tier, being able to defeat Rotom and Spiritomb (who block Rapid Spin) is great. Earthquake is a solid 2-3HKO on Spiritomb while Assurance can 2HKO Rotom. Stealth Rock is your entry hazard which can be helpful on a couple of Pokemon.

Other things you can consider is tweaking Lanturn's EV to this: 40 HP / 216 Def / 252 SpD. Allows you to survive Earthquake from Dugtrio and strike back with Surf.

I am tempted to go back to Donphan but i'll give Blastoise a few more goes before i decide.
There are no decent physical sweepers in UU :( if only Gallade wasn't BL...
