UU warstory - JA VP EOM vs Laundry

Before I start I'd like to say that I'm fairly new to pokemon. I have been studying quite a bit lately but I make a lot of stupid mistakes due to lack of experience and just a general lapse of thought. That being said, I think I am an okay battler and I think you guys will enjoy reading this match even though it is slightly lopsided into my oppenent's favor. Although I guess that is to be expected considering that JA VP EOM is #2 on the UU ladder.

A little background info: I had faced JA VP EOM earlier today and I won due to a little bit of luck. This is our second match. I can't really say that I remembered much about his team at all at the time I faced him for the second time and I'm not sure if he remembered also. Either way I don't think it had much effect on the outcome of the match.

Rules: Ladder Match, Sleep Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Evasion Clause, Species Clause, Strict Damage Clause
JA VP EOM sent out Roserade (lvl 100 Roserade ?).
Laundry sent out Scyther (lvl 100 Scyther ?).

Fearing the sleep powder from Roserade I just aerial ace hoping that I'll get lucky and KO next turn with QA, or he'll switch into something and I'll get some free damage. I typically tend to do as much as I can with Scyther early game as he becomes less useful as the match moves on with more and more chances for the enemy to get SR up. This was kind of amateurish now that I think about it as I could have switched into Registeel and got the rocks down earlier and he wouldn't have been able to shuffle around to avoid leech seed so easily as he does later.

JA VP EOM switched in Spiritomb (lvl 100 Spiritomb ?).
Spiritomb is exerting its pressure!
Scyther used Aerial Ace.
Spiritomb lost 32% of its health.
Spiritomb's leftovers restored its health a little!
Spiritomb restored 6% of its health.

I see the will-o-wisp coming and swords dance up. If I get two off (which I should, I don't remember his Spiritomb having much offense) it will do much more than cancel it out.

Scyther used Swords Dance.
Scyther's attack was sharply raised.

Hmm. Time to start attacking. Hopefully it doesn't do pitiful damage.

Spiritomb used Shadow Ball.
Scyther lost 39% of its health.
Laundry's Scyther fainted.
Spiritomb's leftovers restored its health a little!
Spiritomb restored 6% of its health.
---

That was underwhelming. I bring in Shaymin to set up on Spiritomb with hopes of getting burned so I don't get poisoned later, but Registeel was the better choice as I could have used stealth rock or poisoned something, or even exploded if the opportunity presented itself.

Laundry switched in Shaymin (lvl 100 Shaymin).

I was hoping I got lucky and his Chansey catches the seed flare drop, but it didn't happen. It kinda sucks that I wasn't running 252 HP so he couldn't break my subs, but that's just how things go sometimes. I substitute in case he wants to toxic or switch because of leech seed.

Hm, interesting. I have air slash on my Shaymin so I test the waters and see what he's gonna do.

Even more interesting. Never seen this set before. I've got my sub up so I decide to stay in rather than let him get a sub on me or something if I switch to a counter.

This just keeps getting better. I've still got my sub up and I don't feel like taking a bunch of stealth rock damage taking this thing out so I decide to stay in in case I get lucky and get some flinch hax.

I couldn't believe that it happened AGAIN. I feel pretty accomplished having effectively taken out his Shaymin. I air slash in the chance that he stays in to bring his revenge killer in (unlikely) but it's free damage. Leech seed was probably the better option here.

JA VP EOM switched in Chansey (lvl 100 Chansey ?).
Shaymin used Air Slash.

It's not very effective...
Roserade lost 15% of its health.
Roserade's special defence was harshly lowered.
Roserade's leftovers restored its health a little!
Roserade restored 6% of its health.
---

Nice. I decided to use air slash as he's most likely going to switch out so I don't want to waste seed flare on something that 4x resists it like Altaria and two of his other pokemon are weak to it. If I get lucky I might score a KO on his Shaymin or Roserade.

JA VP EOM switched in Milotic (lvl 100 Milotic ?).
Shaymin used Air Slash.
Milotic lost 16% of its health.
Milotic's leftovers restored its health a little!

Shaymin used Air Slash.
Chansey lost 8% of its health.
Chansey's leftovers restored its health a little!

I must have misclicked here but it's no big deal. Shaymin fires off leech seed again. JA VP EOM must be getting pretty annoyed at this thing by now.

JA VP EOM switched in Shaymin (lvl 100 Shaymin).
Shaymin used Leech Seed.
Shaymin's leftovers restored its health a little!

No idea why he did this as it could have been good death fodder later in the game, but I kill him with ease anyways. Maybe he forgot that I was faster?

Shaymin lost 32% of its health.
JA VP EOM's Shaymin fainted.

JA VP EOM switched in Roserade (lvl 100 Roserade ?).

Chansey's leftovers restored its health a little!
Chansey restored 6% of its health.

I'm starting to see a pattern here! I substitute to avoid toxic and pray that he doesn't seismic toss me. If things go well here I can get back into the pattern of keeping him on the run while Shaymin annoys the hell out of his team.

Shaymin used Substitute.
Shaymin lost 25% of its health.

---

I underestimate him and he does exactly what I wouldn't want him to do. At this point I have a 50/50 chance to get my next move right: either I sub now and leech seed later with the chance that he seismic tosses and I lose some health, or I leech seed now and cause him to switch getting a free sub. I decide that if I play mind games for too long I'm going to end up poisoned sooner or later and I might not even be able to sub at the end of it, so I take my chances in hopes that it pays off.

---

Shit. I decide to stay in and play mind games with him for a little while hoping I get lucky and get an extra KO or a random critical. The first thing I should do though is substitute in the off chance that I can soak up some HP from Chansey. This was an extremely idiotic move as I knew that he liked to switch as soon as I get leech seed on Chansey and my HP was going to start dropping like a motherfucker.

5-4

I decide to switch in Blaziken because he not only scares off Roserade, but he has super effective moves on all the pokemon he's switched in (besides Spiritomb obviously). I go with superpower in case he tries to soak up my fire blast with Chansey.

Either JA VP EOM is really, really good at outpredicting me or he is getting rather lucky. Either way I have no choice but to switch out as I'm locked into superpower. Registeel is the obvious choice.

I don't get the KO and am forced to go with Rhydon. I figure he is going to mach punch me but if he's not running it I figure I should rock polish and I might be able to pull off a miracle sweep even though I would have to take out 5 pokemon with no SR support as he just blew away my stealth rock.

Props:

- Rhydon for making things a little more even
- Shaymin for being annoying as hell
- Hitmontop for scaring the hell out of my team
- Roserade for being all around useful
- JA VP EOM's excellent prediction. He outpredicted me every single time he possibly could during this match

Slops:
- All my careless mistakes
- JA VP EOM's Shaymin for doing nothing
- Scyther for being absolutely useless
- Registeel for not exploding
- Tons of hax. I got lucky a lot.
- Me for not getting stealth rock down sooner

Nice predictions there by JA VP EOM, but I don't understand why you let shaymin die, after seeing how much grief it caused his team.

There were a lot of misplays on your part, and honestly, the only interesting aspect of the battle was the brilliance of your opponents outpridictions.

Too many slops for my taste. Also,

I see the will-o-wisp coming and swords dance up. If I get two off (which I should, I don't remember his Spiritomb having much offense) it will do much more than cancel it out.

Why didn't you go right to Blaziken to absorb it rather than basically sacrifice Scyther for no reason?

I liked the warstory, it was definently closer than the final score shows. That Shaymin of yours had quite the durability. The only thing I'd recommend would be pictures or something to show the hitpoints on both side. You could also cut out some of the fluff like leftovers recovery

I think with the whole Shaymin thing, you were very greedy and stubborn in not switching it out, forcing you to waste PP and slowly die. You were also very greedy with Scyther, wasting it right away. From there, it just seemed like an entirely uphill battle.

Also the comments were a bit lacking. There wasn't much besides "I did this. Maybe I should have done this instead?"

There were a lot of misplays on your part, and honestly, the only interesting aspect of the battle was the brilliance of your opponents outpridictions.

Sorry, but this is very true. The only reason I read through to the end was because of EuM's good play keeping me engaged, something that your commentary unfortunately failed to do =/.

Stuff like

I leech seed here in an effort to save Shaymin. I wasn't really thinking straight as I could have killed his Roserade here.
I use ice punch just to cancel his leftovers.
Well that's annoying.

really doesn't make for good commentary. I read on to see how EuM further outplays you, and he ends up 3-0ing you with little effort. The battle was poor and not worth warstorying, the commentary was minimal and lacking, and the formatting was shoddy as well.

Not the best warstory I've read.

To clarify, the reason I left in Shaymin was because I glanced up at the last turn of the log, saw Air Slash had achieve 29%, and figured that I could survive the next one and proceed to heal myself. Bad play on my part, should've kept up my switching (although it would've been nice if Air Slash hadn't critted/flinched twice!). I also really hate how I have to do what I did in the warstory with just about every Shaymin. I can see why Moltres spiked in popularity.

On the warstory, as stated above, the commentary was a bit lacking. The battle itself could've used a bit more prediction as well. For a plus, I do think your team had more potential to cause me more grief than that. A few better plays would have made this a closer battle, and if you keep that in mind, I'm sure you'll be able to have even better battles in the future.

I've got to agree with these guys. but since you're new I'll try giving you advice instead going on about it. shaymin has natural cure. this means you switch out and bad effects(poison, burn, paralyze, sleep) are GONE. try it. I realize you might know this, but try using it instead of leaving shaymin in to meet a avoidable demise. I could go on, but I didn't really read past you leaving shaymin in.

Ah, I totally forgot about that. I've only played UU for a week or two, so simple things like that slip my mind. Once I stop making stupid little mistakes like that I imagine I'll start playing a lot better.

Also, sorry about the warstory. This is my first one and I didn't really have much to say. I'll keep the comments you guys gave me in mind in the future.

That's the best and only thing you can do.

Anyway, I don't feel the need to comment on your misuse and misplay in certain areas of the battle, but I would like to say that EuM was really packing the predictions! God, is that how you always play? Anyway, I can see why you had the urge to warstory this, but just keep these comments in mind when posting another one.

Great predictions on EUM's part. Other than that it was pretty decent, could use colorful text or maybe something else, I don't know.

I also really hate how I have to do what I did in the warstory with just about every Shaymin. I can see why Moltres spiked in popularity.

Use Max. Sp. Def Roserade.

Anyway, I pretty much agree with everything said, only thing that kept me reading was EUM's predictions.
