VGC 2010 If you Can't Beat 'Em

So,
Everyone knows what the Meta is gonna be for 2010.
It's gonna be:

Kyogre/Rain
Kyogre/Rain
Kyogre/Rain
Kyogre/Rain
Groudon/Sun
Kyogre/Rain
Trick Room
Kyogre/Rain
Abomasnow/Hail
Kyogre/Rain
Rogue
I decided to make a team that can counteract all the weather and trick rooms,
but then end up sweeping as a Rain Team.

Here Goes:
Team Name: If you Can't Beat 'Em, Join 'Em
252041-rayquaza_super.gif

Rayquaza @ Yache Berry (Maybe Band or Lum)
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 6 Hp / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
ExtremeSpeed
Dragon Claw
Earthquake
Protect

Rayquaza has a few things going for it.
For one, It eliminates all weather, giving pure weather teams a huge problem. That also means that attacks such as thunder and blizzard aren't 100% accurate anymore. Dragon Claw takes out all the dragons, barring defensive giratina and dialga. Extremespeed cripples smeargles, and any other focus sasher or trick room team. Earthquake Nails Dialga, and with quazas high atk stat, can 2hko most pokemon. Protect is there for obvious reasons, (explosion, an apparent ice shard etc). The berry is there for a little bit of protection from blizzard, but I might switch it for band, and replace protect with overheat (to kill zongs). Another Option would be lum berry, to destroy void smeargles.
It counters:
All Dragons,
Sashers,
and Weather Pokemon

Toxicroak @ Focus Sash
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Nature: Adamant
- Fake Out
- Night Slash/Sucker Pwnch
- Low Kick/Cross Chop
- Taunt/Protect

Ahh, my only defense against gengar and dusknoir. First turn Fake out smeargle, finish it off with quazas xtremespeed. At first I had Infernape in this spot, but I couldn't defeat ghosts, and the synergy with kyogre and opposing rain teams is too good to ignore. Night Slash is to take out TRing dusknoirs and other passive ghosts, although i might switch it for pwnch if playtesting shows it to be better. Low Kick is another nice attack, has better accuracy than chop, but I might switch that because of the damage output. Taunt is for any other passive pokes I see. Protect could be used for quazas EQ mindgames.
It Counters:
The Ghosts,
The TR'ers,
Most Passive Pokemon,
and heavyweights (to a point)

DoomOgre @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Sp Atk / 252 Spe
Nature: Modest
- Water Spout
- Thunder
- Ice Beam
- Ancientpower/Hyrdo Pump

Oh boy, haven't We all seen this before? It's the standard scarfogre, comes in late game to set up water, and sweeps with its buddy Kingdra. Thunder, Beam, and Power allows for lot's of type coverage, giving me another way to defeat shedinja and other pokemon that would be difficult to kill. Other than that though there isn't much to say. This things Spout Can destroy everything.
It Counters:
Ogres,
Groudouns,
Shedinjas,
Lugias,
Ho-ohs,
and most Dragons

kingdrasprite.png

Kingdra @ Life Orb/Haban Berry
Nature: Modest
EV's: 6 HP/252 Sp. Attack/252 Spe
Ability: Swift Swim
~ Protect
~ Surf / Hydro Pump
~ Draco Meteor
~ Toxic

Kindgra seemed Orges best support for the endgame. With my many ways of stopping TR's I decided to go all out on the speed. Toxic ohkos sheddy (provided it hits, may switch out if too big of a risk), Meteor kills dragons, and anything else which doesnt resist it. Please note that two meteors does more than two pulses, so I probably wont switch that. Surf offers for some combos if croak is still alive, and protect is there to stop xplosions, and for mindgames.

It Counters:
Sheddys,
Ho-oh,
The Dragons,
Groudon

Note, that where there are // the first one is my choice, but I am still debating it, and these pokemon's ivs are perfect or "near" Perfect, thanks to emerald and platinum rng hacks.

The strategy is to stop the common threats of weather and TR, and from there just beatstick it out.

The team works well, but obviously things can be improved, I ask that you offer any advice you can, and if you found a specific team that beats me, please let me know. I plan on going to my regionals with this team, and feel pretty bad because last year I got ko'ed round because of double crit xplosion. xD. So this year I must of a perfect team! Thanks for your help!

I'll develop the strategy more as time goes on.

Great team the only problem I can see is a Palkia can rape once Quaza's out of the way, but while Kingdra can beat it, it can only outspeed and KO in the rain and assuming you have no Sp. Attack drops, because Palkia can take a -2 DM and OHKO back with Spacial Rend.

I don't really see how your team counters TR. It's actually more weak to it than it is a counter to it. What happens if something Fake Outs Rayquaza or Dialga is sent out w/ a Follow Me Wall? I know EQ will hurt Dialga, but:

252 HP, 0 Defense Dialga w/ a neutral nature will only lose 56.4-66.8% of it's HP from Rayquaza's EQ when it has Lum, and 84.2-99.5% when it has Choice Band.

4 HP, 0 Defense and a neutral nature Dialga (non-TR sweeper) will lose 99.4-117.5% when Ray has Choice and 66.7-78.9% of HP when Ray has Lum. Both calculations are Ray using EQ.

I'm not saying you should use Choice Band, I'm saying Rayquaza will struggle to KO Dialga in time to stop TR from appearing, and it's almost impossible if Dialga is paired w/ a Follow Me Wall (Clefable or Togekiss). You may have Toxicroak to deal the finishing blow, but over half the time, Dialga will have a Follow Me user to end that and make it so Toxi can't touch Dialga. You will KO their follow Me user, but not Dialga in time to stop TR.

Choice Band on Rayqauza may add some oomph to your attacks, but it will be way too easy for the enemy to take advantage of you by sending out Dialga while your locked into Extreme speed, and picking Ho-Oh when your stuck on EQ. And while you can use EQ each turn, Toxicroak/Kingdra can't Protect each turn, and Kyogre can't Protect at all. Using EQ while your banded would usually resort to you switching the turn after you send him out because Protect doesn't work after repeated uses.

Also remember that Kyogre's all carry Ice beam, not Blizzard, and Groudon often carry Dragon Claw to stop Palkia and Rayquaza anyway, so Ray will have trouble w/ opposing ogres/dons. While their partners won't enjoy it, Tyranitar, Abomasnow, Kyogre, and Groudon have no problem fighting when the weather is perfectly clear.

I recomend taking Scarf off Kyogre for similar reasons. The most threatening is being locked into a low HP Wtaer Spout and being forced to switch at the worst time. Everyone will be ready to KO Kyogre as soon as possible w/ Grass Knot, opposing Thunders, etc. As you said, and what everyone else thinks too, the VGC will be filled w/ Ogre. Because of this, everyone is ready to knock ogre's HP to the point of Water Spout doing nothing. You'll pull one off, than you'll have to switch so your not stuck on a weak Water Spout from Kyogre being hit w/ Grass Knot/Double Teamed.

BTW, You have probably had trouble w/ Low Kick because damage out-put is dependent on the opponents weight, so it doesn't hit much in the VGC outside of Dialga and Tyranitar.

The only way to OHKO Dialga is to add Groudon to your team, but I don't want to make you have to rearrange your whole team and stratagy just because of opposing TR teams.

I might have to get back to you on how to beat Dialga....sadly, any Dialga w/ more than 200 HP EVs, even w/o defense, Ray falls inches away from OHKOing him w/ EQ (I have done the calculations). Normally it is as easy as using Toxicroak and using Low Kick or simply double teaming him, but Follow Me stops that....And it doesn't help that Clefable and Togekiss, the best Follow Me walls in the game (Follow Me isn't found on that many good Pokemon...), are Dialga's most common partners.

Groudon and Garchomp are the only Pokemon capable of OHKOing Dialga in time...Unless you want to add them I can't really think of anything right now...

Sitrus on Kyogre can help if the enemy's attacks take away about 50% or so, but Sitrus won't give enough HP back if Kyogre is double teamed or hit by Grass Knot from Mewtwo, Ludicolo, or one of sunny team's Grass Pokemon. Water Spout can still be used, but don't rely on it too much.

Follow Me always goes fist, so your fake out will follow it too. The good thing is, FM users are easy to pick out and double team, especially with a boosted rain team.

Taunt will only stop it if you hit whoever's using TR first, before they can use it.

This is a cool idea for a team, but there is an issue I've noticed with Ray on the field: It counteracts all weather for all 4 pokes in battle, not just itself. This can be great for screwing up other weather teams, but it could cause a problem for your team, as the other three members prefer rain. As long as Rayquaza is active, Kingdra will be slow, Toxicroak will not heal, and Kyogre's water moves will not be boosted.

@feathers
so you think no taunt?

@for54years
Yeah,
but they really will want to kill my rayquaza (because it most likely hurts them),
and then I can go SUPRISE and go spout their asses
