Resource VGC: Ask a Simple Question, Get a Simple Answer

Hey all, new to forum posting. Is this thread linked here the definitive place to discuss Champions doubles? (Whatever the format that is played when you load up Champions on Switch right now, not the official VGC format currently being played at time of writing)

If so, I guess I'm a little surprised that there's not more activity. According to Freezai, this is by far the most popular structured format on Showdown

freezai is right, champions vgc doubles is by far the most played ladder and its not even close (the stats he showed doesn't even include the games being played on Pokemon Champions). The reasons it doesn't get discussed as much is more to do with who's using Smogon. If you're active on smogon its probably because you are interested in the 'smogon singles' scene (formats like OU, UU, Ubers etc.). This is cause these formats are entirely managed on smogon (such as which pokemon are legal and tournament play). It's hard to be super active in these scenes without beign active on smogon. This isnt the case with VGC, most tournaments are hosted by the pokemon company or on limitless, some top VGC players will not even have a Smogon account let alone be active on here. VGC teams are generally shared on other platforms like twitter or youtube, and most people will discuss the meta privately in their own teambuilding groups on discord.

Makes total sense, thank you!

Why is mega Chimecho outclassed by other offensive Pokemon like Aegislash and Kingambit?

Additionally, what playstyles or what kinds of teams are good in this metagame? What common threats should teams be able to check? Is there anything else people should know when making teams?

The cost/benefit ratio just isn't in Mega Chimecho's favor. It's a decent Pokémon in a vacuum, but doesn't do enough to stand out to justify using the Mega slot on it. Having Levitate and being unable to abuse Expanding Force also kind of sucks.

Wait I'm confused - I thought these two were the same thing?
No (although we are all pretending they are). Official events are currently being run in regulation I (double restricted scarlet/violet). However, essentially all grassroots tournaments are Reg M-A (champions).
