252 Atk Parental Bond Kangaskhan-Mega Return vs. 252 HP / 148 Def Buzzwole: 72-86 (33.6 - 40.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252 Atk Parental Bond Kangaskhan-Mega Power-Up Punch vs. 252 HP / 148 Def Buzzwole: 10-11 (4.6 - 5.1%) -- possibly the worst move ever
+2 252 Atk Parental Bond Kangaskhan-Mega Return vs. 252 HP / 148 Def Buzzwole: 143-170 (66.8 - 79.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

The attack/defense spread is designed specifically to prevent a 2HKO under (almost) any circumstance where Buzzwole is healthy and guarantee an OHKO with hammer arm against a standard jolly 252/252 spread (also keeping attack higher than defense to ensure an offensive beast boost). PUP into a +2 return will not KO as you can see, nor will 2 standard returns, nor will any other coverage options you'd reasonably expect Kanga to carry....But it can actually still 2HKO with a neutral nature Fire Blast, so that might be something to watch out for as the meta develops.

I didn't slash every coverage option he has for the last slot because he has so many, but I'd say that Ice Punch, Thunderpunch, EQ, Stone Edge, and Gyro Ball are all fairly reasonable options depending on your team's needs. You can also run some niche moves like fell stinger and low sweep but I can't really recommend those in good faith even though they probably have some application. Buzzwole is also a very solid check to Mega Gyarados which increases its appeal as a teambuilding option.

Thanks to Fluffy, Bewear can take a walloping from Mega Kang, while Bewear can OHKO it in return with Superpower. An Assault Vest helps Bewear stomach Fire Blast from mixed attacking sets, while the EV spread maximizes its bulk and attack. Unfortunately though, Bewear loses to Mega Kang if it has received a boost from Power-Up Punch.

252+ Atk Parental Bond Mega Kangaskhan Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Fluffy Bewear: 68-81 (29.9 - 35.6%) -- 20.1% chance to 3HKO

Being a Ghost-type, Mimikyu can easily switchin to one of Mega Kangaskhan's normal attacks, use disguise to eat an unburned attack, take minimal damage from the second hit, and get of a WoW. From there, simply set up a Swords Dance that you have all the time in the world to set up, and then nuke Kangaskhan with a Twinkle Tackle on the third turn. If then faced with something that Mimikyu can't KO before they KO it such as Aegislash, simply use Destiny Bond and be content with your 2 for 1 trade. A quick note is if they are adamant Kangaskhan, the above Mimikyu will actually outspeed and burn them before they have a chance to move.

Banned deucer.
Many people have submitted some good checks and counters so I thought I might try as well.

Cresselia @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Ice Beam
- Moonlight
- Psychic
- Toxic
Cressilia is a great mon to counter Mega Kangaskhan imo as it has great physical bulk+Rocky Helmet and recovery in Moonlight. And since Cressilia is a support Pokemon, Sucker Punch is not the best option as it can heal itself or wear Kangaskhan down with Toxic. Also, it can switch into Kangaskhan fairly easily due to Rocky Helmet+Double Edge will take it's toll. Thus Kangaskhan will die against Cressilia even in +2.

Ability: Pressure
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Low Kick
- Knock Off
- Ice Shard / Icicle Crash

The classic anti-lead. Weavile was one of the best checks to lead Mega Kangaskhan back in gen 6. After the nerf to Prankster and Parental Bond this thing has become more dangerous than before. Also beats Mamoswine as well which is nice. The last move is a matter of preference on what you want to cover. Ice Shard beats Breloom and Garchomp while Icicle Crash beats Landorus-T and Mega Salamence at -1.

Submissions are now closed! There are to be no edits of your own Pokemon, nor are there to be any new submissions. A few quick things to note;
  • Voting will close on the 18/2 at 12:30pm GMT+11 (8:30pm EST 10/2), where the next Vitim Of The Week will also be announced
  • You can't vote for your own submission
  • You can only change your vote once, so think carefully before doing so
  • You can vote even if you haven't made a submission. It is expected that you vote if you did submit yourself, but not compulsory
Going to be a tough vote for sure this week, not even sure who I'm going to vote for. Every submission is honestly fantastic! Best of luck to all!

Hippowdon @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sand Stream
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Yawn
- Slack Off

Hippo returns in the new meta a very solid answer to the furious Mother and Child combo. Hippo's incredible physical bulk allows it to take hits from Mega Kang, while wearing her down with Rocky Helmet + Sand damage (Unless Kang is Mixed/Special or is using Secret Power, but these sets aren't as good as in gen 6). Stealth Rocks supports the team, and Yawn is great for forcing switches and putting the opponent to sleep, as long as Electric or Misty Terrains aren't up. Earthquake is your STAB and Slack Off provides reliable recovery.
252+ Atk Parental Bond Mega Kangaskhan Double-Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Hippowdon: 88-106 (40.9 - 49.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Damn, Who said Kangaskhan is weak now? Its Double Edge destroy everything, if not, if the check switchs on Power-Up Punch, the boost will do the rest.
I tried something else, but they can't do a 100% OHKO or they risk a killed tie. I don't say the names, 'cause I don't wanna looks like trying to do bad publicity about other Pokémon.
I looked at PGL site, and fun fact, the threats that you normally think that can kill Kangaskhan are the top 10 Pokémon that are killed from Kangaskhan.
Well then, I went to sleep, and today I checked better about the situation, and I find out Rocky Helmet Celesteela.

Celesteela can take every hit from M-Kangaskhan without many troubles, and Parental Bond just makes Kanga's pain bigger with Rocky Helmet; losing 25% of the health for every turn is not the best.
Celesteela then can go for Leech Seed and stalling with Protect to beat down this big Mega Problem.
Also Heavy Slam does good damage.

0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Kangaskhan-Mega: 69-82 (38.3 - 45.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

While Kangaskhan can't do much.

252+ Atk Parental Bond Kangaskhan-Mega Double-Edge vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Celesteela: 48-57 (23.6 - 28%) -- 88.4% chance to 4HKO
252+ Atk Parental Bond Kangaskhan-Mega Ice Punch vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Celesteela: 41-48 (20.1 - 23.6%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

After the boost from Power-Up Punch:
+2 252+ Atk Parental Bond Kangaskhan-Mega Double-Edge vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Celesteela: 96-113 (47.2 - 55.6%) -- 79.7% chance to 2HKO
+2 252+ Atk Parental Bond Kangaskhan-Mega Ice Punch vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Celesteela: 81-96 (39.9 - 47.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
I understimated it, if Kangaskhan can do a Power-Up Punch (even when the check is switching in, unless a Ghost), then its hits can almost destroy everything; but not for Celesteela.
Plus, I did some battle to simulate the worst case possible, the boost, with every ways Kangaskhan can choice:
1st Battle http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7battlespotsingles-531802521
2nd Battle: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7battlespotsingles-531802900
3rd Battle: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7battlespotsingles-531803297

Well, the worst case is if M-Kangaskhan has Fire Blast or Thunder Punch, but damn, this thing is unstoppable.

Lucario-Mega @ Lucarionite
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Bullet Punch
- Iron Tail

M-Lucario is one of the best checks to physical M-Kang, for it outspeeds and OHKOes M-Kang with an unboosted Close Combat 100%of the time, but it's not a counter as it can't switch in. For one, Power-Up Punch can 2HKO at best (not taking into account Parental Bond, in where the 2HKO is guaranteed) and that's not even certain. However, Fire Blast is a guaranteed 2HKO, regardless of nature. Calcs to support this:

252 Atk Adaptability Lucario-Mega Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Kangaskhan-Mega: 292-348 (162.2 - 193.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO (Naive Kang)

252+ Atk Parental Bond Kangaskhan-Mega Power-Up Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Lucario-Mega: 70-82 (48.2 - 56.5%) -- 85.9% chance to 2HKO (Adamant Kang)

Jellicent @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Bold Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Scald
- Ice Beam / Shadow Ball / Hex
- Recover

With the combination of its great bulk, typing and having the access to WoW and Recover, Mr.Pringles can handle pretty well Mega Kangaskhan, being immune to its main STABs and easily stalling Sucker Punches.

The only real ways that Kangaskhan has to hit Jellicent are with Earthquake or Scrappy Double-Edge, 4HKOing with Earthquake and 3HKOing with Double-Edge if Will-O-Will misses. This, of course, before it gets Burned.

252+ Atk Parental Bond Mega Kangaskhan Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Jellicent: 69-82 (33.3 - 39.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
252+ Atk Kangaskhan Double-Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Jellicent: 82-97 (39.6 - 46.8%) -- 88.7% chance to 3HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
Burned:
252+ Atk Parental Bond burned Mega Kangaskhan Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Jellicent: 34-40 (16.4 - 19.3%) -- possible 7HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
Burned:
252+ Atk burned Kangaskhan Double-Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Jellicent: 41-48 (19.8 - 23.1%) -- possible 6HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery

Even with the rare Crunch or Thunder Punch (before being burned) Kangaskhan has less then 1% chances to 2HKO Jellicent, with Crucnh (widely missing it when burned) , and will always miss the 2HKO with Thunder Punch.

252+ Atk Parental Bond Mega Kangaskhan Crunch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Jellicent: 110-132 (53.1 - 63.7%) -- 0.6% chance to 2HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
252+ Atk Parental Bond Mega Kangaskhan Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Jellicent: 104-124 (50.2 - 59.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
Burned:
252+ Atk Parental Bond burned Mega Kangaskhan Crunch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Jellicent: 55-66 (26.5 - 31.8%) -- Miniscule chance to 4HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
Burned:
252+ Atk Parental Bond burned Mega Kangaskhan Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Jellicent: 52-62 (25.1 - 29.9%) -- guaranteed 5HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery

And all those calcs are made with Max Atk, Adamant nature. With a Jolly nature or less attack the match up will be even more ideal for Jellicent.
Things get even better if Cursed Body activates (and vs Parental Bond, this ability will have 51% chances to activate).
This is why, imo, Jellicent pretty much tanks Mega Kangaskhan, always checking it with Burns.

Bonus Calc: 252+ SpA Parental Bond Mega Kangaskhan Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Jellicent: 86-102 (41.5 - 49.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
I don't know if there are 252 SpA kanga out there, with a Modest nature, but you never know.
The only thing i would fear from a Mega Kangaskhan is Shadow Ball, still missing the 2HKO, but having 1/3 chances per round to lower Jellicent's Special Defense.
This is the first time I'm participating in this, so I hope I'm doing this correctly.
How about an Intimidate user? And who would be a better choice to intimidate an opponent than Landorus-T?

Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn

This is an all-out attacking set coming in on a free switch. It is 4x weak to Ice Punch, but not many Mega-Kangs run this anyway because they'd rather go for a Fighting-type move to add coverage on Steel-types. If Mega Kang runs an Adamant nature, it gets outsped and OHKOed by an All-Out Pummeling, or gets hit by U-turn and Ice-Punches an Ice-resist counter, losing momentum. If it's Jolly and happens to run Ice Punch, it's a 50-50 chance of Lando surviving. Here are some calcs.

252 Atk Landorus-Therian All-Out Pummeling (180 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega-Kangaskhan: 424-500 (120.7 - 142.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

-1 252 Atk Parental Bond Mega-Kangaskhan Return vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Landorus-Therian: 147-176 (46 - 55.1%) -- 64.5% chance to 2HKO

252+ Atk Parental Bond burned Mega Kangaskhan Ice Punch vs. 68 HP / 4 Def Mimikyu: 34-40 (24.4 - 28.7%) -- 99.8% chance to 4HKO
252+ Atk Parental Bond burned Mega Kangaskhan Earthquake vs. 68 HP / 4 Def Mimikyu: 45-54 (32.3 - 38.8%) -- 99.8% chance to 3HKO

Weavile @ Life Orb

Solerme

Jellicent has reliable recovery, reliable burns and most importantly immunity to both PuP and Double Edge (next level no-mega scrappy plays notwithstanding). Sableye shares these traits but takes a mega slot which makes it less flexible as a team building option.

Solerme

this one was tough to decide between Cant Say and Solerme, but Jellicent really is just such an amazing check. Lots of good submissions here though

Solerme

So many good ones this week, but I'm impressed by Jellicent. It's is immune to both PuP and Normal attacks (Scrappy Facade is always scary) and doesn't care about her coverage moves, on top of having reliable recovery and not using a mega slot. Not only that, it's also the cutest of all submissions (judge me).

I don't care

While making my choice, I wanted to try and choose a Pokemon that are naturally viable in many competitive battles. That's why I wanted to choose Landorus. The next in line would've been Celesteela. That set combining Leech Seed, Rocky Helmet, Steel-typing and even the burn chance with Flamethrower is exemplary and therefore it grabs my vote.

SoLerme

I was going to vote the Squash but I think the better way to beat down M Kangaskhan is that of don't let it boost with Power-Up Punch, and Pedowear risks the OHKO if it switchs on PUp and then Double Edged.

Well, I know a check can't work on every move, but Kangaskhan is always ready to go with Power-Up Punch.

Plus Jellicent is what is closer to counter that thing. What else is the move, the most used I mean, it won't do many damage. Jellicent just doesn't care. (Like me!)

NOVED's Suicune
Have been using Suicune as a core of my team since I started playing BSS and most of the time has handled Mega Kang and the likes pretty neatly hence getting my vote :)

Phantom Me's Cresselia

I do think that most of the checks that have been suggested are pretty good, but, even if i'm not the type of battler who likes to run standard mons, Cresselia is and has always been probably the best choice to check Kangaskhan, since it covers the team even from a lot of other common threats

soLerme's Jellicent

Man mixed Kangaskhan still is such a big threat, and even though i'd like to go a more offensive route to beat it, Lucario will never live an Earthquake and switching Mimikyu in on Kang is too risky imo, since any attack not Normal or Fighting will make disguise and a potential sash be useless (Lando just dies to mixed Icebeam etc etc).
Out of the defensive suggestions, Jellicent has the bulk and typing along with good potential to trigger Cursed Body on SE contact moves Kang might run, so it stands out as one of the best pokemon if you are desperately in need of something to handle the beast. Afterall, even with missing some of the power it wrecked the whole ORAS metagame with, Kangaskhan still is one of the strongest Megas available and is always threatening to face.

It's hard for me to decide between Suicune and Jellicent. I used Suicune a lot in the past but I've been using Jellicent a lot more both now and at the end of gen 6 so I would vote for that, except Jelli is useless against Sub Kang (99% of the time you use Wisp against them meaning they get the free sub then you have to play Sucker Punch mindgames with them) and even if that's uncommon I still have to vote for NOVED because at least you still have Reflect to make things easier for both Suicune and its teammates. Plus Suicune is able to use the helmet whereas Jelli needs the sitrus to avoid 2HKOes from most things

It was between ThickFatAzumarill and Solerme, but I'm gonna have to go with Solerme on this one. Both of these sets are very standard, which I like. Jellicent seems to have just a bit more utility, and the immunity to its main STAB and chance to disable Earthquake or Sucker Punch is the real tipping point. Sub is a problem but fortunately it is not that common on Kangaskhan.

Voting for Phantom Me. I honestly could have made and justified a core for any submission, they were all so good. However, my vote is based purely around two things. 1) The ability to counter Mega Kangaskhan, and 2) General viability in the metagame. It was such a tough choice, especially with Solerme and NOVED's submission, but for me Cresselia is simply the best pick as when physically defensive, Mega Kanga literally can't touch it. Special Kanga variants do nothing, which other submissions such as bulky waters / bulky steels can have some trouble with. While those special sets are kind of a gimmick, they still see usage and can prove to be effective. I'm being extremely picky on this one however, glad too see so many fantastic submissions

Voting for NOVED's Suicune

Suicune is bulky enough on its own, but reflect makes it enough tougher to break. Mirror coat is also a pretty cool addition that Kang wouldn't be expecting to face.

Congratulations to Solerme for winning VoTW 3 (Mega-Kangaskhan) with your submission of Jellicent! Your post will be logged into the Archive.

Victim Of The Week #4 - Tapu Lele

For our next Victim Of The Week, we have one of the big four Alolan threats introduced in Pokemon Sun and Moon. Tapu Lele is next to face the music! Personally, this thing has been both my saving grace and the very bane of my existence. Psychic Surge is obviously what makes Tapu Lele a huge threat, enabling Lele to hit extremely hard with STAB Psychic options whilst not having to worry about oposing priority, which can also be an amazing asset for your team. With a scarf, Tapu Lele becomes a powerful revenge killer and method of speed control while specs turn Lele into a deadly wallbreaker, able to 2HKO almost the entire metagame. While Lele does deal with bad physical bulky and a mediocre speed tier, these traits are relatively easy to patch up with one or two teammates. So, how do you deal with Tapu Lele?

Submissions are open and will close in four days from now. Best of luck everyone!

While Lele's psychic terrain manages to utterly stuff Scizor's Bullet Punches and is often a big ol' nuisance to Scizor's sweeps, Mega Scizor has enough defensive presence with Roost, its decently workable 70/100 special defenses, and smorgasbord of alternative coverage options to nail Lele with if you choose for whatever reason to not just wait 4 turns for psychic terrain to end (it's not that long, i swear!), such as Knock Off and Bug Bite.

While it's firmly parked directly in front of the psychic demon (if they don't immediately switch when they realize they cannot break it) it can easily swords dance on non-HP Fire variants (hell, if you run it on rain, you can even do that!).

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off

Here's a set I've used to pretty decent success as a catch-all Tapu Lele answer and late-game cleaner if the opponent is bold enough to keep their fires in for more than 1 turn against a team with Dugtrio in team preview. Its use on my team has primarily role compression of mimi rker and lele switchin in mind, but the set is generic enough that you can try to use it on your own teams if it fits well enough on it. Try it out!

Aegislash @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Flash Cannon
- King's Shield
- Shadow Ball
- Shadow Sneak

Aegislash can switch in on most of Lele's attacks, with the exception of Shadow Ball, and return the favor with an OHKO:
252+ SpA Aegislash-Blade Shadow Ball vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Tapu Lele: 150-176 (102.7 - 120.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Leftovers allows Aegi to switch in on Shadow Ball and still counter Modest Lele, in case you really want to get rid of it, but otherwise Weakness Policy is a superior item:
252+ SpA Tapu Lele Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Aegislash-Shield: 72-86 (43.1 - 51.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
Aegi can counter Timid Lele without using leftovers:
252 SpA Tapu Lele Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Aegislash-Shield: 66-78 (39.5 - 46.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
