Tapu Koko @ Life Orb
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Dazzling Gleam
- Hidden Power Fire / Grass Knot

Nothing is really beating Mega-Venu as a counter imo, so lets try a check. After Sash has been broken Tapu Koko has no problem cleaning and removing Breloom. Also works as an excellent anti-lead to Breloom, whom people are usually inclined to lead with. U-turn/Volt Switch in tandem with Electric Surge means you're able to break Breloom's Sash & switch something in to finish the job without fearing Spore; bonus points for also blocking Yawn and thus providing more overall team support and no loss of momentum.

Spore immunity, doesn't care about STABs, loves speed "boosts" from Rock Tomb, Glares things it can't beat. Serp is cool. Choosing coverage / support in the third slot can be tricky, Reflect eases the matchup by tanking stuff better, Taunt stops shenanigans, and coverage can really help against common switch ins like Salamence (especially after a Rock Tomb) or Ferrothorn.

Yeah Venusaur is pretty much the ultimate Breloom counter. But here's another mon that also ruins the mushroom's fun.

Metagross @ Metagrossite
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- Zen Headbutt
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch

Classic Megagross. It outspeeds Breloom as mega and can slam it with pretty much any of it's moves to either OHKO non-Sash variants, or knock it to Sash range. For non-Sash variants, Ice Punch and Zen Headbutt will score a clean OHKO; the former is generally the better pick since it has perfect accuracy and can slam troublesome Ground types if they try and switch in. For Sash variants, go for Iron Head since the flinch rate is 30% instead of Zen Headbutt's 20%, which can ultimately stop Spore from going off. Spore can be a nuisance if Loom has Sash and Electric/Misty Terrain isn't up, but without Life Orb, none of Breloom's moves leave the 4HKO range for Megagross unless the opponent gets lucky and rolls three 4 or 5-hit Bullet Seeds in a row, in which case that's still a 3HKO (or a 98% chance for 3HKO for three consecutive 4-hitters); therefore you should have plenty of time to wake up and finish Breloom off if flinch hax doesn't kick in in the first place.

252 Atk Tough Claws Metagross-Mega Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Breloom: 117-138 (86.6 - 102.2%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Tough Claws Metagross-Mega Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Breloom: 146-172 (108.1 - 127.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Technician Breloom Bullet Seed (5 hits) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Metagross-Mega: 60-75 (38.7 - 48.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ Atk Technician Breloom Bullet Seed (4 hits) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Metagross-Mega: 48-60 (30.9 - 38.7%) -- approx. 98.4% chance to 3HKO
252+ Atk Technician Breloom Bullet Seed (3 hits) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Metagross-Mega: 36-45 (23.2 - 29%) -- approx. 99.2% chance to 4HKO

This moment had to come...

@ Light Clay
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 236 HP / 44 Def / 4 SpA / 4 SpD / 220 Spe
Timid Nature
- Yawn
- Psychic
- Reflect
- Light Screen

Great in the lead vs lead situation. You can set up the screens, break its sash, or just beat it. Also, you'd pressure a breloom team either in the team preview and even through the rounds since the possible espeon switchin always causes mindgames, and this could be a win factor.

Defensive:
252 Atk Technician Breloom Rock Tomb vs. 236 HP / 44 Def Espeon through Reflect: 36-42 (21.1 - 24.7%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
252 Atk Technician Breloom Bullet Seed (3 hits) vs. 236 HP / 44 Def Espeon through Reflect: 66-81 (38.8 - 47.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Technician Breloom Mach Punch vs. 236 HP / 44 Def Espeon through Reflect: 18-21 (10.5 - 12.3%) -- possible 9HKO

In the worse situation, with seeds hitting 5 times (64.7 - 79.4%) + Mach Punch (10.5 - 12.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO, you'd have a screen up and breloom without its sash.

Offensive:
4 SpA Espeon Psychic vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Breloom: 192-228 (141.1 - 167.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

The EVs are to outspeed Adamant Mence. Take a +1 Return throught Reflect from it, survive bulky m-gengar's shadow ball, scarf hydreigon's dpulse and greninja's dpulse before setting up light screen (since it's outsped by these).
It also beat common lead such as Garchomp, Mamoswine, Hippowdon in the 1vs1 situation.

Okay so many checks have been submitted. So let's try this!

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Gyro Ball
- Protect / Knock Off

Wall-Nut is immune to Spore due to its Grass-type. But it's not the only thing...

252+ Atk Technician Breloom Mach Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 68-84 (37.5 - 46.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 Atk Ferrothorn Gyro Ball (138 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Breloom: 90-106 (66.1 - 77.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Ferrothorn win 1vs1 against SashLoom as a check. You can also win some recovery with Protect if Breloom is the last Pokémon remaining (not enough to transform 3HKO in 4HKO but can prevent little previous damage).
Ferrothorn is a good defensive pivot, having a good matchup against Tapus (bar HP Fire Lele), Mimikyu, Mamoswine, Garchomp (bar Fire Fang), Gyarados and so on.

Kommo-o(Choice Specs)
Ability : Overcoat
EVs : 252 Hp / 140 Def / 118 SpA
Modest Nature

Clanging Scales
Focus Blast
Flash Cannon
Flamethrower

Overcoat Kommo-o surely isn't as effective as the premier grass pokemon mentioned by other users but has the element of surprise on its side. It can switch to any move of Breloom including Focus Punch and Overcoat gives Kommo the so much needed immunity against Spores. Clanging Scales enables it to OHKO Breloom through substitute while the most common Breloom set(Spore/Mach Punch/Bullet Seed/Rock Tomb) that runs rampant in the format is near useless forcing Breloom to switch out. Calcs below :

252+ Atk Breloom Focus Punch vs. 252 HP / 140 Def Kommo-o: 103-123 (56.5 - 67.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Technician Breloom Mach Punch vs. 252 HP / 140 Def Kommo-o: 42-51 (23 - 28%) -- 70.5% chance to 4HKO
252+ Atk Technician Breloom Bullet Seed (5 hits) vs. 252 HP / 140 Def Kommo-o: 60-75 (32.9 - 41.2%) -- approx. 100% chance to 3HKO

118+ SpA Choice Specs Kommo-o Clanging Scales vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Breloom: 172-204 (127.4 - 151.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
118+ SpA Choice Specs Kommo-o Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Breloom: 188-222 (139.2 - 164.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

The EV spread is designed to allow Kommo-o to take a hit from Jolly Garchomp's Outrage and give it a 50/50 chance of surviving a Double-Edge from Jolly Mega-Mence. Both mons fall to Choice Specs Clanging Scales.
This Kommo-o does well against sand teams too since it takes no damage from Sandstorm and has the tools to beat 1vs1 Tyranitar , Excadrill and Hippowdon. Also it is a solid counter to Ferrothorn and Mamoswine.
Overall I think in the long run Bulletproof/Soundproof might be more beneficial than Overcoat but against some weather teams or spore users like Breloom , Venusaur or Amoonguss this Kommo-o is more effective.

Celesteela @ Safety Googles
Ability: Beast Boost
Level: 50
EVs: 244 HP / 252 Def / 12 Spe
Relaxed Nature
- Heavy Slam
- Flamethrower
- Leech Seed
- Substitute / Protect

Celesteela not being a Grass type is both a curse and a blessing (more of a blessing in most cases). However, if your team is extremely weak to Breloom and you're willing to give up better item choices, Celesteela is your perfect counter.

252+ Atk Technician Breloom Mach Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Celesteela: 42-49 (20.5 - 24%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
252+ Atk Technician Breloom Bullet Seed (3 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Celesteela: 18-21 (8.8 - 10.2%) -- possibly the worst move ever
252+ Atk Technician Breloom Rock Tomb vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Celesteela: 40-48 (19.6 - 23.5%) -- possible 5HKO

0 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Breloom: 82-97 (60.2 - 71.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Celesteela Flamethrower vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Breloom: 108-128 (79.4 - 94.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

I got to late. But I'll post anyways.

Gyarados @ Flyinium-Z
Jolly Nature
Ability: Intimidate
76 HP/ 252 Atk / 4 Def / 4 SpD / 172 Spe
- Bounce
- Waterfall
- Taunt / Substitute
- Thunder Wave / Roar

So many grass-types as check/counter, so I wanted something cool and different. Z-Bounce Gyarados beats any breloom set (and his best counter M-saur - muafufufu..252 Atk Gyarados Supersonic Skystrike (160 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Mega Venusaur: 222-264 (118.7 - 141.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO). Jolly nature + 172 Spe Ev allows to bypass max speed breloom and taunt to prevent spore. Taunt > substitute IMO for this set because it works against other stall pokes like celesteela, chansey, toxapex, skarmory, etc etc. Thunder Wave + Waterfall grants you hax chance and is also good to stop sweepers. Roar can be used against Substitute mons or any setuped mon that you can't handle easily. This set has too much Attack EV IMO, but you can also transform it to a offensive support thanks to gyarados's Intimidate, the EVs could be redistributed to Def or SpD, depending on the needs of your team.

Upon some deeper thinking, it seems that I didn't really think this victim through very well given that mega venu walls it as it does to fini ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Aegislash @ Safety Goggle
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Shadow Sneak
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head
- Shadow Claw

How about some oras memories? Good old safety goggles Aegislash punishes breloom, easily setting up while breloom cries in self pitty. Breloom can't touch it, Aegislash sets up, smashes Breloom on the spot or anything that switches in

Goodra @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sap Sipper
Level: 50
EVs: 156 HP / 132 Def / 108 SpA / 4 SpD / 108 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Wave
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt/Earthquake

By virtue of its ability, Goodra is able to shut down Breloom easily, being immune to spore. Damage calcs: 252+ Atk Technician Breloom Mach Punch vs. 156 HP / 132 Def Goodra: 64-76 (34.5 - 41%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Technician Breloom Mach Punch vs. 156 HP / 132 Def Goodra: 58-69 (31.3 - 37.2%) -- 76.7% chance to 3HKO
108+ SpA Goodra Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Breloom: 162-192 (120 - 142.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
108+ SpA Goodra Sludge Wave vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Breloom: 104-124 (77 - 91.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Goodra itself is a great answer to the likes of Celesteela, Mega Charizard-Y, Rotom-Wash and Heat, Venusaur, and even Tapu Koko and Bulu. Since this set is from VGC, the EV spread should be enough to survive jolly Chomp's Dragon Claw.
it's kind of lazy to nom the exact same serp set twice so

Tapu Bulu @ Assault Vest
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Horn Leech
- Wood Hammer
- Stone Edge
- Superpower

Tapu Bulu isn't very good, as a general rule it's probably the least neutral tapu for the least neutral terrain, builds with bulu must be made with grassy terrain being up some of the time in mind, so eq use must be limited, so it's not super splashable.

but god damn if even without super effective coverage bulu wins the matchup.

Breloom is forced to get good Bullet Seed rolls multiple times *while predicting the bulu switchin which means it's not sporing* even if it's Adamant.

252+ Atk Technician Breloom Bullet Seed (4 hits) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tapu Bulu in Grassy Terrain: 180-216 (52.3 - 62.7%) -- approx. 99.6% chance to 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

If it's Jolly it has to rely on both predicting the bulu switchin, and getting *double 5-hits* or some combination of high rolls with 4-hit followed by a 5-hit. It's incredibly unlikely if you don't know!

252 Atk Technician Breloom Bullet Seed (4 hits) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tapu Bulu in Grassy Terrain: 160-192 (46.5 - 55.8%) -- approx. 6.6% chance to 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

Whereas Bulu... gets em with a simple one-two punch horn leech+superpower. dead mushroom.

252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Horn Leech vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Breloom in Grassy Terrain: 122-144 (46.7 - 55.1%) -- 14.1% chance to 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Superpower vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Breloom: 173-204 (66.2 - 78.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
Amoonguss @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spore
- Sludge Bomb/HP Fire
- Giga Drain
- HP Fire/Foul Play

Okay, yeah this is basically a poor man's M-Venu. However, Amoonguss finds a niche in the metagame with its ability to tank hits from popular Pokémon such as Tapu Koko, Thundurus-Therian, Tapu Fini, and BRELOOM. Before I get to the calcs, I want to argue why this yung shroom fills a special (and different) niche from M-Venu. First, Amoonguss' amazing ability, Regenerator, allows it to function as part of a stall/bulky core - it can pivot in, eat a hit, fire off a Spore or an attack, and then proceed to switch out and recover up to 33% of its health. While M-Venusaur can potentially be worn down since it relies heavily on Synthesis/Leech Seed/Giga Drain for recovery, Amoonguss can theoretically recover forever as long as you can switch it out. Also unlike M-Venu, Amoonguss has a 100% accurate sleep move in Spore - no worrying about a Sleep Powder miss costing you the game! Finally, with the increase in popularity of TR, Amoonguss provides your team with a 'mon that can underspeed virtually the entire metagame (speedties Snorlax and is only faster than Ferrothorn, which loses 1v1 to HP Fire variants) and Spore its way out of the TR and allow your faster 'mons to come in later and win the game.

Offensive Calcs:
0 SpA Amoonguss Sludge Bomb vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Breloom: 134-158 (98.5 - 116.1%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO [not including 30% chance to poison and kill :) ]
0 SpA Amoonguss Hidden Power Fire vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Breloom: 60-72 (44.1 - 52.9%) -- 23.4% chance to 2HKO

Defensive Calcs:
252+ Atk Technician Breloom Mach Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Amoonguss: 25-30 (11.3 - 13.5%) -- possibly the worst move ever
252+ Atk Technician Breloom Bullet Seed (5 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Amoonguss: 40-45 (18 - 20.3%) -- possible 7HKO after Black Sludge recovery
252+ Atk Technician Breloom Rock Tomb vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Amoonguss: 51-61 (23 - 27.6%) -- possible 5HKO after Black Sludge recovery

It may not be as good as M-Venu overall, but Amoonguss is an interesting and less-used counter to this week's victim and arguably takes less damage in the 1v1 thanks to Black Sludge recovery. It also doesn't take up a mega slot!

Cheers, and happy playing!

Moose And Goose's Mega-Venusaur

What isn't there to say? Resists all common coverage, immune to Spore and deals heavy damage with Sludge Bomb.
More than that, Venusaur is a great answer to many Water- and several Electric-types, and is just a good choice overall.

Moose And Goose's Mega-Venusaur

Nothing much to say. There are many efficient checks/counter to Breloom. But we must agree, M-saur is the best. Immune to spore, resists fighting and still one of the most bulky mega-evo at meta. It is the best counter to this week's victim.

Everything is explained here.

Moose And Goose's Mega-Venusaur.

Well, I fucked up badly this week by choosing Breloom, but either way it's good to see that answers exist outside of Mega-Venu / Aegislash, which I wouldn't have come up with myself. Next week will be a totally different mon though!

Moose and Goose's Mega Venusaur

If you think this is just an ordinary counter think again. I mean, check out its massive Special Attack stat. 122 is pretty impressive for a wall imho.

I really want to vote for goggles aegi because I used it a lot in oras on teams that were really loom / venu weak as bait for setting up SDs, and was going to nominate it myself if dogknees didn't steal it, but i'm actually going to vote for something different.

Seeing the case made for Venusaur and having tested it myself I have definitely been converted. However, I'm going to vote for chemcoop's Amoonguss since it doesn't require a mega slot and has a few cool toys over Venu. Spore will always be better than Sleep Powder, and Foul Play is really cool against unsuspecting physical attackers.

Looking at the votes here already and the PS poll though, looks like Venu is winning in a landslide
