Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe

Serperior is a good Counter because can resist scald and boost and break the sub with leaf storm and giga drain(Giga because leaf has only 8 PP)

Keldeo @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Substitute
- Calm Mind

Status: Counter

Leftovers and a resistance to Scald allow Keldeo to safely boost alongside Suicune. As long as they have the same number of boosts (or Cune is one CM ahead), Keldeo's Sub can't be broken outside of crits. Moreover, it has two advantages over ordinary CM users: it has Secret Sword (which hits on Suicune's unboosted Defense) and it's faster, spending fewer PP to KO Suicune.

Against Keldeo:
0 SpA Suicune Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Keldeo: 43-51 (13.3 - 15.7%) -- possibly the worst move ever
+1 0 SpA Suicune Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Keldeo: 64-76 (19.8 - 23.5%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery

Against Suicune:
252 SpA Keldeo Secret Sword vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Suicune: 123-145 (30.4 - 35.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
+4 252 SpA Keldeo Secret Sword vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Suicune: 367-433 (90.8 - 107.1%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
+5 252 SpA Keldeo Secret Sword vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Suicune: 429-505 (106.1 - 125%) -- guaranteed OHKO

rip infernal, she was a really fren of mine... anyway!

Celebi as a Counter!

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Giga Drain
- Earth Power
- Psychic

Celebi is a good cune counter due to its grass typing and since it takes 0 from scalds. If the Suicune starts Cminding this mon can reply with Nasty Plot to win the 1v1.

252 SpA Celebi Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 40 SpD Suicune: 176-210 (43.5 - 51.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252 SpA Celebi Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 40 SpD Suicune: 350-414 (86.6 - 102.4%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Celebi Giga Drain vs. +1 252 HP / 40 SpD Suicune: 116-140 (28.7 - 34.6%) -- 99.5% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recover
+2 252 SpA Celebi Giga Drain vs. +1 252 HP / 40 SpD Suicune: 236-278 (58.4 - 68.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

There are 2 sets i want to show since they both beat vincune.

ALTARIA AS A COUNTER

Altaria-Mega @ Altarianite
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 92 SpD / 44 Spe
- Dragon Dance
- Roost
- Refresh
- Return

Support Mega Alt can easily DD up on cune and thanks to refresh it can deal with scald burns. Facade is also an option on Offensive Mega Alt. It's bulk allows it to take on boosted Scalds. 44 Speed investment is something I added on there so that altaria can outpace cune making it easier to break. Roost is so you can heal off damage taken from scalds and return is the attacking move.

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Cloud Nine
EVs: 252 HP / 100 Def / 156 SpD
Bold Nature
- Roost
- Echoed Voice
- Heal Bell
- Flamethrower

While quite odd echoed voice mega alt can deal with sub cm cune as the echoed voice breaks through subs and increases power each time, and since the cune relies on leftovers as recovery it can't really stay in or beat Echoed Voice.

AMPHAROS-MEGA
COUNTER

Ampharos @ Ampharosite
Ability: Static
EVs: 20 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Dragon Pulse
- Focus Blast / Charge Beam
- Agility

An otherwise mediocre Pokémon who can use Vincune as setup fodder. One Agility with those EVs make it faster than Lopunny-Mega.
As a Dragon type bulky special attacker, it doesn't mind Scald at all, although a burn will wear it down faster.
Focus Blast gives it great coverage and it can hit Choice Scarf Excadrill or Ferrothorn on a predicted switch, but Charge Beam can be used instead.
Considering it's power and accuracy, it breaks Vincune's substitute even at +1 and has a decent 63% chance of giving a SpA boost.
Therefore, should the opponent insist in keeping Vincune, there's a chance Ampharos-Mega will be with +1 SpA (579) / +2 Spe (406).

Also: If you nominated a check but didn't write it up, write it up before voting ends.

let me just say half of the list doesn't even beat suicune
any thundurus without life orb will never be a check. even then, life orb thundurus can lose because it cannot switch in and if you let vincune set up too much, thundurus gets destroyed.

breloom is a check, not a hard check

mega sceptile can lose to vincune if it doesn't get a turn 1 crit upon switching.

it doesn't matter what your serperior has because all variants lose to vincune over the course of the match. its a temporary check if anything and it needs taunt + giga drain to do that.

mega ampharos loses even if it has charge beam.
i'm voting based on how a vincune team is going to look. it will have a pursuit trapper and at least two toxic 'mons paired with it to lure in things like gastrodon and volcanion for example. i am also voting based on the popularity of the counters. toxicroak is a counter, yes, but it's not the most common thing.

manaphy, subcm keldeo (i'd have celebi as a third if i could vote one more time)

Though this calc:252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Steam Eruption vs. 252 HP / 40 SpD Suicune: 126-149 (31.1 - 36.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

may seem appealing, volcanion is not a counter or switch-in to any sort of suicune at all. The most it does is sit there for 8 turns until earth power pp gets drained off and you're forced to struggle to death.

And if you're switching into a calm mind, then good luck breaking this thing's sub.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Steam Eruption vs. +1 252 HP / 40 SpD Suicune: 84-99 (20.7 - 24.5%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Sludge Bomb vs. +1 252 HP / 40 SpD Suicune: 92-109 (22.7 - 26.9%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery You're insanely lucky if you manage to break past this and poison it.

This also includes any non-choiced sets that comes in, but those mons are just gonna take longer to pp stall. Heck I might even say that Volcanion loses against sub cm in a 1v1 anyways cause you're technically only at 4 pp with super scald, which suicune can stall out via sub and protect. And keep in mind if you arent specs, you arent breaking any subs.

___________________________________________________________________________________

With that out of the way, I'm gonna suggest something that might be surprising. Choice Band Victini

494.gif

This mon is one of the strongest wall breakers in the tier, being one of the only pokes that ohko's clefable without any prior damage.

252+ Atk Choice Band Victini Bolt Strike vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Suicune: 344-406 (85.1 - 100.4%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Victini Bolt Strike vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Suicune: 344-406 (85.1 - 100.4%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock (and protect)
252+ Atk Choice Band Victini Bolt Strike vs. 48 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 179-211 (50.7 - 59.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Suicune Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Victini: 158-188 (46.3 - 55.1%) -- 63.3% chance to 2HKO
+1 0 SpA Suicune Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Victini: 236-278 (69.2 - 81.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Though at a glance, it doesn't look as if it's possible for tini to switch in and beat Suicune, but it's possible. The worst outcome is tricking a band onto suicune, and lets be honest. Suicune's utility is pretty much gone at that point anyways.

There are several scenarios that might take place, though victini exits with a fainted or crippled Suicune in any scenario

The first, and the worst situation is when suicune scalds on the switch, possibly anticipating that tini is your answer. Here, you will have to go for trick. After the trick, suicune has no boosts and can be easily revenge killed by anything that's not weak to scald. Additionally, you might want to go for bolt strike hoping for a crit, parahax, or high roll, or weakening suicune to very low health if you have no way of revenge killing a banded suicune.

The second, is when suicune cms on the switch, maybe anticipating a switch into a special attacker like latios or gengar. Here either move will work, but because suicune is at +1 already, it will generally be easier to deal with suicune if he's hit by bolt strike instead of trick. There's also a 50% chance that you'll get ohko'd after stealth rock, excluding crits, so you'll have to play your luck with bolt strike and see if you get any lucky rolls.

The third, and the best situation is when suicune protects or subs on the switch, wanting to heal up from SR damage or anticipating a toxic or will-o-wisp from hippo or rotom-w. After taking sub damage Bolt strike will usually KO after several rounds of protect. If you happen to switch into protect (or pivot out via u-turn, baton pass, or volt switch), know that tini should win if you keep spamming bolt strikes unless your opponent gets lucky with protects.

Disclaimer:This mon, along with a revenge killer, is usually enough to deal with vincune, but you have to be aware that the opponent might switch out at any time, so this mon is a shaky check at best.

Week 119:

Checks: Breloom (Littlelucario) | --- | --
Counters: Manaphy (Random Passerby) | Curse Gastrodon (cmurph) | SubCM Keldeo (SP458)

Thanks for all the votes! Thanks also to Vertex who went through the list and argued against choosing specific nominations (a practice I totally endorse, before and after voting starts).

Week 120: Specs Hydreigon

Hydreigon @ Choice Specs

- Fire Blast / Flamethrower

Taking Chansey

Counter

Chansey @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Toxic / Thunder Wave
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
- Heal Bell

The undisputed special sponge of OU has no problem whatsoever dealing with pretty much every specially offensive mons. Specs Hydreigon is no exception to the rule since it's only able to 6HKO Chansey with Dark Pulse. Chansey only has to come in, use Soft-Boiled once in a while and whittle Hydreigon down with Seismic Toss/Toxic until it's KOed.
252+ SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 4 HP / 252 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 174-205 (27.1 - 31.9%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 4 HP / 252 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 108-127 (16.8 - 19.7%) -- guaranteed 6HKO

Chansey Seismic Toss vs. 0 HP Hydreigon: 100-100 (30.7 - 30.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

Check: Mega Diancie

Diancie @ Diancite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 8 Atk / 248 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Moonblast
- Diamond Storm
- Hidden Power Fire
- Protect

Mega Diancie switches into a dark pulse or draco meteor and gets an easy ko with Moonblast.

Check

Tornadus-Therian (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Superpower
- Knock Off
- U-turn

Torn-T can use its pivoting ability to great use vs Specs Hydreigon, as it tanks any one hit and then U-turns out to the appropriate resist. For example, Torn-T can even take a Draco Meteor after rocks if you really need it to:
252 SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Tornadus-T: 226-267 (62.6 - 73.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO.

Additionally, if there is a specific scenario in which you want to do direct damage to Hydreigon instead of U-turning, then Superpower is an option to do near 60% damage. Tornadus is not a flawless longterm counter vs Hydreigon if it has to take repeated Draco Meteors, but it can definitely serve the purpose of taking a few hits to scout moves and gain momentum.

Clefable @ Leftovers

EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD or 252 HP / 216 Def / 40 SpD
IVs: 0 Spe
Sassy/Relaxed Nature
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled
- Focus Blast

CHECK BTW

best balance breaker 2016. Assuming you scout for flash cannon draco and dpulse do a solid 0. Use other sets if you want but calm mind focus blast punishes builds that rely on tran as the clef check hard. sassy 0 speed for gyro ball.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 84+ SpD Clefable: 95-112 (24.1 - 28.4%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 84+ SpD Clefable: 174-205 (44.1 - 52%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
flash cannon 2hko's lol just scout.

Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Icy Wind

Keldeo can't really switch into anything over the majority of a match, as after 2 Stealth Rock switch-ins Dark Pulse can 2HKO, and it can't switch into Draco Meteor because that easily OHKOs, but if you can manage to get in for free or take a resisted hit, Keldeo can outspeed and scare Hydreigon out with a Super Effective Secret Sword. One of the better offensive checks out there.

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Secret Sword vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 452-534 (139 - 164.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Keldeo: 114-135 (35.2 - 41.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Blissey as a counter.

Blissey @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Soft-Boiled
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam

Blissey can come in on any move and scare Hydra out, lest it be made setup fodder. Heck, it only needs one CM to secure the 2HKO (51.6 - 60.9%). The worst Hydreigon can do with one hit is a full-power Draco (33.2 - 39.2%), and even then it'll have to get out.
