[OVERVIEW]
Vigoroth is a fantastic defensive sweeper. Thanks to its great bulk and access to reliable recovery, common offensive Pokemon such as Golem and Choice Scarf Electivire can't 2HKO Vigoroth and therefore are rendered setup fodder. Vigoroth only needs a few EVs to outspeed Monferno and common defensive Pokémon such as Altaria and Probopass. This, coupled with Taunt or Substitute, allows Vigoroth to use them as setup fodder as well. However although Vigoroth's bulk is great, if it loses its Eviolite, Vigoroth becomes more specially frail, and giving it a harder time setting up and making it easier to revenge kill. Vigoroth faces competition from the several other Normal-types in ZU, most notably Bulk Up Komala, which, despite being worse at defensive sweping, is far more versatile. Also, Vigoroth doesn't benefit from its pure Normal typing, which doesn't bring it any useful resistances. Vigoroth also can't afford to run anything other than a Normal STAB move as an attack and therefore needs several Attack boosts to break through Pokemon that resist Normal such as Bronzor and Probopass. In addition, Vigoroth is unable to touch Ghost-types such as Gourgeist-XL and Misdreavus and relies on PP stall to beat them. Since Vigoroth needs several turns to set up, it is unable to perform its role if it gets poisoned, making it very vulnerable to Toxic Spikes. Vigoroth is also vulnerable to Trick / Switcheroo from Choice item users, which locks it into one move and prevents it from setting up.

Moves
========
Bulk Up allows Vigoroth to increase its Attack and Defense, making it very difficult to take down with physical attacks. After one Bulk Up, it avoids the 2HKO from Rampardos' Rock Slide and threatens opposing walls such as Golem and Altaria. Facade is the preferred offensive move on Taunt Vigoroth, as it lets Vigoroth take advantage of status such as burn from Scald, poison from Sludge Bomb, and Toxic from faster Pokemon. Return is Vigoroth's strongest STAB move, which can 2HKO, threats such as Electivire and Combusken after Stealth Rock. Slack Off keeps Vigoroth healthy throughout the game, allowing it to accumulate Bulk Up boosts. Taunt allows Vigoroth to avoid common countermeasures to defensive sweepers such as status moves like Bronzor's Toxic, hazing or phazing moves such as Mareanie's Haze, opposing Taunt coming from slower Pokemon such as Mawile, and setup from slower sweepers such as Curse Muk and defensive Nasty Plot or Calm Mind Beheeyem. It also lets Vigoroth PP stall Ghost-types such as Gourgeist and beat Pyukumuku, the only viable Unaware user in ZU. Substitute is an option over Taunt that makes Vigoroth less susceptible to status from offensive moves, such as burn from Scald and paralysis from Discharge, and protects it from fast status users, such as Silvally-Fighting, and Trick Pokemon, such as Mr. Mime. It also lets Vigoroth scout for what move a Choice item attacker will lock itself into. However, it leaves Vigoroth susceptible to slower Taunt, Pyukumuku, phazing, Ghost-types, and slower setup.
Set Details
========
The 92 EVs in Speed along with a Jolly nature allow Vigoroth to outspeed Adamant Monferno, preventing it from easily stopping Vigoroth. The rest of the EVs are put in HP and Special Defense, since Vigoroth's special bulk is lackluster without EVs and doesn't get boosted by Bulk Up. The Eviolite is used to further increase Vigoroth's overall bulk. It also allows Vigoroth to check special attackers such as Zebstrika and Rotom-S without Trick. Vital Spirit is Vigoroth's only ability, avoiding sleep from Tangela, Smeargle, and Bellossom and therefore letting Vigoroth set up on them.
Usage Tips
========
Vigoroth should always avoid status, so when facing a Pokemon that can carry Toxic, it should use Substitute or Taunt. Try to keep Vigoroth at full health with Slack Off so it can set up on Pokemon such as offensive Golem. Don't start to set up until Vigoroth checks are removed. If Vigoroth is facing a Pokemon that could carry Trick / Switcheroo, switch it out, as a Tricked Vigoroth is useless. When every Pokemon that can deal with Vigoroth has been removed, proceed to set up and sweep. The best way to get rid of checks and counters is to weaken them through entry hazards and wearing them down with unboosted attacks, as most of Vigoroth's answers, such as Silvally-Fighting and Bouffalant, don't have recovery. Toxic poison can also help Vigoroth get rid of checks that can recover their health such as Nasty Plot Beheeyem and Roost + Calm Mind Oricorio, as they will get overwhelmed by Vigoroth's boosted attacks and the poison. Vigoroth can also act as a defensive check to unboosted offensive Pokemon that don't carry status, such as Golem, Rapidash, and Silvally-Dark. It can also easily take on physical Electivire lacking Cross Chop and Zebstrika, though it should usually not be used as check a to them in case they punish Vigoroth with VoltTurn.
Team Options
========
Poison-type such as Muk, Mareanie, and Roselia are potential partners, since they remove Toxic Spikes, which prevent Vigoroth from setting up. They also can switch into Fighting-type moves that can beat Vigoroth, such as from Raichu and Simipour in the case of Muk and Combusken and Silvally-Fighting in the case of Mareanie. Altaria, Gourgeist, and Granbull are great partners in general for their ability to take on physical Pokemon that can force Vigoroth out, such as Silvally-Fighting and Power-Up Punch Kecleon. They also make for great Knock Off absorbers, which are vital for Vigoroth. In the case of Altaria and Granbull, they can further support Vigoroth with Heal Bell. Pursuit Silvally-Dark can remove many answers to Vigoroth, such as Misdreavus, Grumpig, and Beheeyem. It can also serve as an additional Knock Off absorber. Probopass's ability to remove Steel-types, such as defensive Probopass and Bronzor, is also appreciated by Vigoroth, which struggles to break them, as its ability to safely bring Vigoroth in the field with its slow Volt Switch. Pokemon that can absorb status, such as Altaria, Floatzel, and Mareanie, make great partners for Vigoroth, due to how weak to status it is. Because of its lack of Leftovers, Vigoroth is quickly worn down by hazards, especially Toxic Spikes, preventing it from staying in to set up and from defensively checking anything while Toxic Spikes are up. Thus, hazard removal from the likes of Altaria and different Silvally formes is greatly appreciated by Vigoroth.

Other Options
=============
Vigoroth can run a stallbreaker set with Toxic / Slack Off / Taunt / Seismic Toss, but it's general outclassed by Regigigas, which pressures stall more effectively thanks to its greater offensive presence. Vigoroth can also run a fully specially defensive set ; however, that doesn't let it avoid any extra 2HKOs, and it allows Monferno to force Vigoroth out. Vigoroth can run moves no foes are immune to such as Night Slash to prevent it from being walled by Ghost-types. However, they lack the power needed to be worth it. Vigoroth can also run Chip Away to beat opposing defensive setup. However, it's often not worth it because of the lack of power and the fact that Taunt already deals with every defensive setup Pokemon, outside of other Vigoroth. An offensive set is outclassed by the other offensive Normal-types such as Komala, Bouffalant, Raticate, and Purugly.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Fighting-types**: Fighting-types such as Monferno, Silvally-Fighting, and Combusken can break Vigoroth Substitute even at +1 in Defense. If they carry Swords Dance, they can use Vigoroth as setup fodder. However, non-Flame Orb Machoke and Adamant Monferno are not answers to Vigoroth.
**Strong Special Attacker**: Some strong special attackers, such as Raichu, offensive Beheeyem, and Simipour, can overwhelm Vigoroth thanks to their strong offensive moves. They can also use Vigoroth as setup fodder.
**Item Removal**: Without an Eviolite, Vigoroth loses its ability to set up on a wide portion of the metagame and is forced out by most special attackers. If Vigoroth isn't carrying Substitute, its Eviolite can easily be removed through Knock Off from Pokemon such as Kecleon and Mareanie. Its Eviolite can also be removed through Trick or Switcheroo from Mr. Mime or Floatzel.
**Toxic Poison**: Vigoroth cannot reliably set up if it's badly poisoned, which makes Toxic Spikes one of the best ways to ensure Vigoroth can't set up. If Vigoroth isn't carrying Substitute, faster Pokemon carrying Toxic such as Silvally-Fighting, can also prevent Vigoroth from setting up.
**Ghost-types**: Vigoroth is unable to hit Ghost-types, which allows them to switch into Vigoroth for free. However, Vigoroth can PP stall many of them, such as Gourgeist-XL, if it's running Taunt. However, Taunt Vigoroth is unable to deal with Misdreavus, which outspeeds it and can safely Taunt it first. Moreover, Dusclops can stall out Vigoroth's Slack Off with Seismic Toss.
**Faster Taunt Users**: Faster Taunt users, such as Floatzel, Oricorio, Misdreavus, and Grumpig can prevent Vigoroth from setting up and use it as setup fodder.
**Pyukumuku**: If Vigoroth isn't carrying Taunt, Pyukumuku will wall Vigoroth forever and PP stall it thanks to Spite and Rest. Moreover, if running Poisonium Z, it can bypass Vigoroth's Taunt and poison it.
**Lickilicky**: Thanks to its ability Oblivious, Lickilicky can Toxic Vigoroth through Taunt. Moreover, Lickilicky has access to Seismic Toss, which does heavy damage to Vigoroth, and breaks its Substitute.
**Phazers and Haze Users**: If Vigoroth isn't carrying Taunt, it can lose its stat boosts to Mareanie's Haze or be phazed by Gabite's or Avalugg's Roar.
