Edit: As VirajVora pointed out to me, when combinations' energy cost exceeds the pokemon's energy, then the combo fails and does no damage. I'm putting Riolu's corrected HP here- as well as the Exp. Share which VirajVora asked to equip.

"One other attribute a combo has is base energy cost. This is the minimum amount of energy the Pokemon needs to execute the combo.
