Virizion benefits from recent metagame trends, such as Mandibuzz lacking Brave Bird and Milotic being extremely common, and it can take advantage of these Pokemon by using them as setup bait. Additionally, thanks to Virizion's typing, it can set up against a variety of common Pokemon like Rhyperior, Gligar, Porygon2, and certain variations of Feraligatr. Furthermore, Pokemon like Doublade and Chesnaught declining in usage only adds to Virizion's potential. Virizion is hard walled by Doublade, so Pokemon like Milotic and Moltres can make nice partners for it; Moltres also lures in Pokemon like Milotic, Porygon2, and Mandibuzz, which can give Virizion more setup opportunities.
