Volbeat Passing

So when the Spooky Manor Dream World location was announced, I noticed Volbeat was amongst the Pokemon that had received his new Dream World ability. Once I found out that Volbeat could pass +3 SpA boosts was legal, I decided that would be the concept I wanted to build my team around. So without further ado, here is the second version of the team.

------

(M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Baton Pass
- Tail Glow
- Encore
- Thunder Wave

Naturally, the first Pokemon I choose was Volbeat. EVs were meant to Maximize it's defenses. Encore is great for buying time to set up and pass. Thunder Wave allows it to come in late game and paralyze a ke threat and make it more manageable. Not much more really needs to be said about it.

(F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Dragon Pulse
- Psyshock
- Surf
- Recover

When I was thinking of special sweepers, Latias was the first Pokemon that came to mind. Bulky, Dragon Type, Fast, Recovery. It's an amazing Pokemon all around. Psyshock is to hurt Pokemon with higher Special Defense than Defense (coughChanseyBlisseycough) (although it really only make a big dent with a Tail Glow Pass), and Surf is for the Steel types that resist Psychic.

(M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Aura Sphere
- Vacuum Wave
- Dark Pulse
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Lucario had one other thing that I planned to use: the only special Priority move, AKA Vaccuum Wave. Special Lucario is pretty beast, but slightly slow at 90 speed. Nonetheless, he catches people off guard as people always expect Physical Lucarios (although they usually catch on when Tail Glow is passed). I would be worried about Gliscor's Earthquaking before I can Hidden Power, but since none run speed anymore, that isn't really an issue. Dark Pulse rounds out the set for near perfect coverage. Fun Fact: Lucario's Base Special Attack is higher than it's Base Attack stat!
--------
205.png
(F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Volt Switch
- Rapid Spin
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock

Fortress is my preferred Spikes/Rapid Spin user. It has a great typing, and being rather slow, Volt Switch usually goes last, allowing me to switch to Volbeat and Encore a move if it's not an attacking move, or to a more appropriate attacker (hmmmm, maybe I should use a -Speed nature.....). EVs are for more durability on the Special side.

--------
248.png
(M) @ Lum Berry
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Fire Punch

DDTar is a beast and sweeps unprepared teams. +1 Fire Punch OHKOs most Ferrothorn as an example. It also helps me to counter weather teams, since the previous version of this team had 5 fire weaks, and I needed someway to counter the massive Sun weakness I had. Lum is because I dislike the lack of survivability of Life Orb, and the hated random status more than I wanted healing.

------
272.png
(M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Surf
- Giga Drain
- Ice Beam
- Rain Dance

Ludicolo is my last Pokemon. A great rain counter, most rain teams have trouble dealing with him once Ferrothorn is gone. Surf, Giga Drain, and Ice Beam are standard on Ludicolo, as well as Swift Swim when not paired with Politoed. Rain Dance is a great surprise move for teams that don't think I have a way to deal with weather, plus it allows him to sweep unsuspecting teams.

I'm not one for excessive verbose descriptions, so that's all I got. Scarf Landorus with U-Turn have been the most obvious problem I've faced, but I will be open to suggestions/comments that are made.

YEAH VOLBEAT

I made a similar team centralizing Volbeat in DW UBERS, and I peaked 102, then I got bored of it. You should use a dual screener like Deoxys-S.

Deoxys-S @ Light Clay
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest/timid Nature
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Taunt/Magic Coat/Psycho Boost
- Stealth Rocks/Psycho Boost

Also, I feel you should use at least one scarfer, just to sweep better, maybe latias could go scarved.

Otherwise, everything seems alright. Also, if you want a template of how my team that reached 102 with volbeat, was like this:

Arceus (Dual Screener)
Volbeat (Volbeater)
Kyogre (Scarved sweeper)
Dialga (Scarved sweeper)
Mewtwo (Expert belted sweeper)
Scizor (Physical revenge killer)

Good luck with the team!

Thank god, I thought I was the only one who still used DDTar, which reminds me I need to take Ice Punch off mine. I do agree with ^^ That you should use a dual screener just to make a Baton Pass easier to accomplish.

yeah i haven't been able to beat this team but thats probably because i am just not very good.

it might be worth running refresh/sub over surf on latias just so you dont get dicked by status.

overall a legit good team, the volbeat set is superbly effective and annoying haha

ps go sassy and 0 speed iv on forry!

Hi, not here to rate this since I'm a horrible team-rater and most likely will make your team worse than better, anyways I'm posting because you can optimize your Volbeat EVs/Nature a bit better :o

Your current set up of EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef and a Careful Nature gives you 334/209/205 defenses.

I suggest a set up of EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SDef and a Bold Nature. This will give you 334/209/206 defenses. Yea a one point increase in Special Defense isn't that much but it's better to not waste that one point for no reason.

This is a cool team! Volbeat is awesome and fast Encore is FANTASTIC so I might actually give that a shot! I also dig Ludicolo, bringing random Swift Swim Pokemon into battle is really fun against poor rain teams. In any case, Volcarona is a humongous threat to the team. Every member is weak to either Fire or Bug weak. Really your best bet is to sac Volbeat and use Thunder Wave, and revenge kill with Tyranitar. As you've already noted sun teams in general are tricky for you!

Something that I think would help would be a simple Heatran, with Roar as the fourth move and a Balloon over Forretress. I don't see how why this team needs spikes or Thunder Wave so I don't think you need him that badly. With this set, he can set up SR and effectively keep Volcarona from sweeping you by using Roar. In general he's an annoyance to sun teams that can't really touch him.

I also think that Ludicolo could be easily replaced by a water Pokemon who actually resists Fire, as this would be helpful against sun teams. I understand that a big draw to Ludicolo is that he does well against Rotom-w, but I think Kingdra could basically do Ludicolo's job but with a 4x water resist that Ludicolo enjoys and the 4x fire resist as well. In particular it stops Darmanitan from sweeping you cold once Tyranitar dies. I hope this helps!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this idea. My concept was different though - Dual Screens + Memento Latios. I also need to try Latias now :3. I know you like your 2 special sweepers, but you can try a SuperRachi or LO Starmie in place of Latias. I'll lay out the benefits:

LO Starmie with the following moveset:
Starmie @ Life Orb
Natural Cure
Timid
252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Def
- Hydro Pump
- Physhock
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
litterally destroys the entire metagame. If my memeory is right, Hydro Pump and Physhock OHKO Bliss (:D I bet you like that part) and has perfect coverage on everything except Ferrothorn. Luckily, Lucario takes care of Ferro.

My second sweeper is Superrachi:

Jirachi @ Leftovers Serene Grace
172 HP / 16 Def / 252 SAtk / 68 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Flash Cannon
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Thunderbolt

This is my own set that I've used, and it hasen't disappointed me. If you don't like it, you can use Smogon's set. 172 EV's hits a lefties number, 68 Spe, outspeeds 72 Spe Gliscor, and 252 SpA allows you to maul anything and everything. Nothing can beat this set except for Balloon tran and Bliss after a free switch-in. Rachi's excellent bulk allows him to tank like a boss too.

Well, there's my 2 cents. I hope you try it in some way or form! Great team, good luck!

Venomoth would be a great substitute for Volbeat, since Sleep Powder is a better move for shutting down than Encore. Also, you can't beat Baton Passing Quiver Dances :)

Venomoth @ Leftovers
Nature: Modest
4 HP/252 SpAtk/252 Spd

Sleep Powder
Quiver Dance
Baton Pass
Bug Buzz

I know you wanted to use Volbeat, but give this Venomoth set a try. It won't disappoint, trust me.

Hey there,

Volbeat looks pretty interesting. I like the Lucario+Volbeat combination a lot since Luke really wants priority, powerful STAB and its two coverage moves. Even then, I think that Trick Room Reuniclus can be extremely threatening to this team. It can kill a lot of stuff easily on your team, and your best bet is probably stalling some TR turns with Forretress, or encoring Psychic with Volbeat as it kills you and then switch to Tyranitar. Even then, it can switch out and then sweep you later. That's not reallyu a good way to deal with such a threat. Furthermore, your team seems to struggle against powerful Choiced Dragon-types, like Choice Specs Latios, which can pretty much kill something everytime it gets in. Latios can easily switch in on Ludicolo or Forretress, and then, without great predicition, start firing off powerful Draco Meteor that only Forretress will not die of it in two hits, which doesn't even have a recovery move! It can't even hit it back. I think that your team would greatly benefit of a Specially Defensive Scizor. SpD Scizor is excellent at checking Latios and Reuniclus (watch out for the occasional Hidden Power Fire!), because it can shrug off the hits, then either Roost/set up. I personally think you should drop out Ludicolo for it, as Latias is already good at stopping Rain teams, let out Starmie, which carries Ice Beam less often nowadays. Even then, Latias doesn't take much of it, and Tyranitar can kill it in a pinch. Anyway, here's the Scizor set:

Scizor @ Leftovers
Technician
Adamant
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Atk / 216 SpD
-Bug Bite
-Bullet Punch
-Roost
-Swords Dance

Good luck!

Hai.
First off I'd like to say I hate you for encouraging baton pass -.- :P
Secondly since your running bpass I'd make one option that can baton pass out if it needs too so maybe switch something for. Jolteon or Vaporeon this way if your encountering trouble you can still keep the sweep.
Also the ttar is kinda random and DD ttar isn't that great of a set so I'd switch it for like Moxie Dragon Dance Gyarados/ Dragon Dance Dragonite Both outclass TTar immensely
Hope I Helped :]
