Volcarona performs the role of a threatening setup sweeper for Fire teams. Quiver Dance lets it be an offensive juggernaut and threaten types like Electric, Dragon, and Psychic after a couple of boosts. Fire Blast is able to break apart Pokemon like Hippowdon and Skuntank after a Quiver Dance boost, while Psychic is used to take care of Pokemon like Toxapex and Keldeo, which can stomach other moves from Volcarona and are a threat to Fire teams in general. Roost allows Volcarona to keep itself healthy while setting up Quiver Dance against types like Electric, Poison, and Ghost without getting worn down. Bug Buzz can be used to beat Dark- and Psychic-type Pokemon like Hydreigon and Mew. Heavy-Duty Boots negates any form of hazards and makes Volcarona harder to check for offensive teams. Drought and Stealth Rock support from Torkoal allows Volcarona to sweep teams more easily. Cinderace can beat Pokemon like Tyranitar and Chansey that can check Volcarona.
