Hello everyone!
I've been battling on Showdown since the late B2W2 era, and this is the first team I started using after the Gen VI metagame stabilized. I tend to mostly use my favourites, while still adapting to the OU meta, so most of the pokes I used in old generations tend to come back. In particular, the staple of my teams has always been a Rotom-W + Choiced Scizor core.
Since at the moment my main PC is busted and I can't really play on Showdown, this is the team I'm using on Pokèmon X Wi-Fi battles:
Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 232 HP / 56 SpA / 220 Spe
Modest Nature (+SpA -Att)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Light Screen
The classic bulky Rotom set, great for checking, it keeps the momentum with Volt Switch, and can set up against both Special and Physical attackers with WoW and L-Screen. HP Ice instead of Light Screen would indeed give it more coverage, but unfortunately I couldn't get the right HP; LS seemed to work fine for wi-fi battles anyway, but I will probably go back to HP Ice once I go back on Showdown.
Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature (+Att -SpA)
- U-Turn
- Bullet Punch
- Pursuit
- Brick Break
The standard Scizor set, great partner for Rotom-W. Had to give her Brick Break for lack of Pokè Bank, I know Superpower would be a superior move... being able to break screens though is good, I guess. I could drop the Band to make it a Defogger, but that would get rid of my Stealth Rocks (necessary to deal with Talonflame) and Light Screens; besides, I love to spam Bullet Punch against Speed Boosted foes, and when doing so, I feel safer with that x1.5 bonus from the Band.
Volcarona @ Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe -Att)
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Quiver Dance
- Roost
This bulky variant of Volcarona works great, it can check many treats, both physical and special, and can even take some STABbed special Water moves, like Scald from Vaporeon and Surf from Rotom-W (if it didn't take Stealth Rock damage). She can practically always set up 1 if not 2 Quiver Dances, while stalling with Roost and lefties, and her ability, together with Rotom's WoWisps, helps neutralizing physical treats. It lacks coverage, with only two attacking moves, but since I can always count on at least +1 SpA (and possible boosts and drops from Fiery Dance and Bug Buzz), it still hits really hard.
Mawile (Mega) @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate-->Huge Power
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Sdef
Adamant Nature (+Att -SpA)
- Swords Dance
- Play Rough
- Sucker Punch
- Fire Fang
The standard SD set, it wreaks havoc on unprepared teams or unaware players, and gives a headache even to the veterans. Great for revenge killing, it can also be a good switch-in due to his plethora of useful resistances and immunities, coupled with his great ability. Also, it's my favourite Mega, I really like the concept and I love using it.
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SpD
Relaxed Nature (+Def -Spe)
- Thunder Wave
- Stealth Rock
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
The classic wall, stalls, paralyzes, sets up rocks and sucks aways the enemy's HP (now it can even switch into Spore). Too bad for his x4 Fire weakness, and I think that while his T-Wave + L-Seed combo is great, it isn't the best at setting up rocks...
Gengar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe -Att)
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Substitute
- Thundebolt
I have to admit I put him on the team only because it's my favourite pokèmon, but it nevertheless does an amazing job as a revenge killer, thanks also to that T-Bolt that gives it the coverage not everybody expects.
Now, I'm aware this team has 2 major flaws: weakness to Fire moves and no Rapid Spin support (critical for Volt-turn cores and Volcarona).
Keeping in mind that I'm not willing to drop Scizor, Volcarona, Rotom nor Mawile, who do you think would better help my team at dealing with entry hazards? Starmie maybe, which can also work as a special sweeper in lieu of Gengar?
And who do you think would be a better Stealth Rock user? I greatly appreciate Ferrothorn for his T-Wave, but I'd like for my team to have more checks to Fire types...
Thanks to anyone who feels like giving some suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated!
