Hey guys! Today I bring you a VoltTurn team. This is my first RMT so excuse any mistakes and please point them out so I can improve on them for future posts! Without further ado, here it is:
Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Knock Off
First part of the VoltTurn core, Scizor packs the strongest unboosted U-Turn. He carries the amazing steel typing and great bulk which allows him to take many hits while maintaning momentum for your team.
EV Spread:
Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 216 SpD / 44 Spe
Calm Nature
- Pain Split
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hydro Pump
The second part of the VoltTurn core, Rotom-Wash covers Scizor's weakness greatly, since he resists the fire weakness in Scizor. I chose to run a less typical specially defensive set since it checks Keldeo better than its defensive counterpart. Will-o-Wisp cripples physical threats and allows him to be pseudo-tanky in the physical department without investment. Thunder Wave offers great utility too but since the metagame is mostly physical I decided to go with W-o-W instead. Pain Split as his recovery move over Resto-Chesto since I like the passive more constant leftovers recovery and Rotom-Wash doesn't really mind status moves. Pain Split is also a more offensive option.
EV Spread:
Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail
- Stone Edge
I decided to try bulky Garchomp and to my surprise it worked extremely well. Rough Skin and Rocky Helmet damage adds up to a lot. TankChomp counters mons that would otherwise threaten Scizor such as Talonflame. Stealth Rock support aids the VoltTurn core of Scizor and Rotom-Wash since they force many switches. Earthquake as his main STAB move. Dragon Tail to prevent threats from setting up. Stone Edge to hit flying type mons.
EV Spread:
Obviously I go for max HP max defense to cover for the lack of defensive investment on Rotom-Wash.
Greninja @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 244 Atk / 12 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Gunk Shot
- Low Kick
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam
And we finally come to one of real offensive threats on this team. Greninja has found new coverage with the release of ORAS. His great speed deals with softened teams efficiently. However, he can cover the role of a wallbreaker pretty well with his new 2 moves. Gunk Shot deals massive damage to Sylveon and Clefable. Low kick 2HKOs Chansey after Stealth Rock damage and deals with Heatran who would otherwise threaten Scizor. Dark Pulse deals with Slowbro efficiently with Ice Beam as his last coverage move. His great versatility allows it to be unpredictable since a lot of teams might expect his specially offensive counterpart.
Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Cloud Nine
EVs: 92 HP / 192 Atk / 224 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Return
- Earthquake
- Roost
We come to the mega of choice. Altaria has found new use with the release of the Altarianite. He gains the great Fairy typing which allows it to completely wall Charizard X/Y as well as the Lati twins. Pixilate boosted Return is his obligatory STAB move. Earthquake covers the fairy-resitant pokemon. Dragon Dance allows for amazing sweeps and Mega-Altaria finds great opportunities to set up due to its dragon immunity.
EV Spread:
Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Draco Meteor
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Defog
At this point, I was wondering what my team lacked. I needed hazard control aside from the rocks, as well as somebody who could threaten Ferrothorn. I thought about Zapdos since I don't want many pokemon weak to Stealth Rock. Hidden Power Fire threatens Ferrothorn. The rest is a standard Latios set, with Psyshock to threaten special walls which handle Draco Meteor. Defog is used for hazard control since a VoltTurn team wants to switch often to keep momentum.
EV Spread:
Standard max Speed max SpA to deal as much damage as possible.
And this was all today! I'm hoping to hear from you guys on anything I can improve.
EDIT: I am going to provide some showdown replays to see how this team can perform and better analyze flaws!
The first replay: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-191050867 An unlucky miss made this game harder than expected but a very interesting match I think. Although the rating is not the highest I'm climbing my way back up!
Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Knock Off
First part of the VoltTurn core, Scizor packs the strongest unboosted U-Turn. He carries the amazing steel typing and great bulk which allows him to take many hits while maintaning momentum for your team.
EV Spread:
- 248HP allows Scizor to switch in a great number of times on pokemon he threatens, to get free U-Turn or finish off low targets with priority Bullet Punch. 248HP over 252HP due to Stealth Rocks.
- 252Atk is obvious since you want him to hit as hard as possible
- 8SpD since it is his weakest defense.
Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 216 SpD / 44 Spe
Calm Nature
- Pain Split
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hydro Pump

EV Spread:
- 248HP over 252HP due to Stealth Rocks
- 44Spe to outspeed max speed Jolly Azumarrill
- The remaining go on SpD
Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail
- Stone Edge

EV Spread:
- 224 Speed allows Mega-Altaria to outspeed Greninja after 1 Dragon Dance.
- 92Hp gives Mega-Altaria needed bulk to set up
- The last goes on to Atk, naturally.
Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
