ORAS OU Walhalla

Hi all!
Im pretty new to strategic Pokémon battleing, and After hours of readings and video watching, here is thé first team i completed ! Id like to have some advices of more experimented players, so please let me know if you think something is to change !

My first step was to set a strong, polyvalent core to check and switch, and my choice went on the fabulous duo, Landorus-Therian and rotom-wash.

Those two guys are able to take almost all the threats, as they cover each other weaknesses, and they form a nice u-turn +voltswitch combination, allowing to gain momentum easily if played smart.

With this I considered the defensive part done, and focused myself on a offensive combinaison that would fit with my two bodyguards.

Talonflame hit my brain, like litterally. This bird as an incredible potential, the priority on flying mooves thanks to gale wings is insane, and he got so far à lot of opportunities to punish serious threats. His biggest weaknesses may be the stealth rocks, that take 50% of his life (op stuff?) And dont allow to switch him on more than once.

As our bird strikes on physical, Gardevoir-mega was my next choice. The hottest Pokemon ever is able to destroy physically defensive pokémons. However it doesnt cover talon's weaknesses so well, and the next guest is there for that job!

Indeed Breloom is there to cover talon's weaknesses to water and rock aswell as Gardevoir-mega's to Steel. I wont lie : i was not conviced at all when building my team, but with some games i must say its doing the job pretty well!

My last friend is one of my favorite Pokémon since generation one, Gengar. This is like the mvp of the team, the one you call when you re Lost ! With taunt he Can stop any annoying sh*t (hello i soam protect and substitute yolo looooool), but his main strenght is his incredible speed and spécial attack, that allows to kill some of the main threats we face on the ladder.

Here it is, as i am noob i dont know the technical words (sweeper, revenge killer, staller, isnt that names of horror moovies ?), I hope you won t mind. As i said im begining and i may miss to something important, so please please please let me knooooooooow! :)

While I'm not a member of the RMT staff, I just want to say before your thread is locked:

Please put descriptions of actual sets when making an RMT! It makes it easier for people to analyze your Pokemon and suggest some changes. Here's an example: (using your Gardevoir)

Frigg (Gardevoir-Mega) (F) @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Calm Mind

After choosing Talonflame, I decided to go with Mega Gardevoir to act as my main special force. This Pokemon is able to break through numerous physical pokemon in the meta. Hyper Voice, after a Pixelate boost, serves as Gardevoir's main STAB and can smash through anything that doesn't resist it. Psyshock is secondary STAB, and covers Poison types, while simultaneously breaking through special walls. Focus Blast hits Steel types such as Ferrothorn and Heatran, where the former creates problems for the rest of the team, and the former resists the previous moves. Calm Mind is to help wallbreaking capabilities and to become a setup sweeper.

I highly recommend checking the RMT rules before making your first post. It specifically shows the format that these take, and is really helpful to get started.

Hello and welcome to Smogon. I hope you enjoyed battling so far.

You're team is solid and I had a blast trying it out. I do have a few suggestions to make. First off, I'd recommend you switch out Thunderbolt with Pain Split on Rotom-W. Considering the amount of times Rotom will be switched in Leftovers may not always be a sufficient for of recovery. This can be remedied by using Pain Split which will not only heal Rotom but will also drain your opponent's HP.

Thor (Rotom-Wash) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hydro Pump
- Pain Split

Another major issue that you're team lacks any Pokemon that can use Rapid Spin or Defog which puts an huge amount of pressure on Talonflame if your opponent manages to set up rocks. The Pokemon I would recommend you switch would be either the Breloom or Gengar.

If you choose to switch out Breloom:

Hitmontop @ Leftovers /Assult Vest
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Close Combat
- Foresight
- Toxic

Hitmontop could fill the role of a fighting type taking out Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Heatran with Close Combat. Toxic is also nice as it puts a timer on bulky mons.

If you choose to switch out Gengar:

Excadrill @ Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic / Stealth Rock

Excadrill is a solid spinner with a nice attack stat to top it all off. He fits decently on your team since your defensive core actually + Talonflame take care of its weaknesses. Iron Head allows Excadrill to take of care Clefable and the other pesky Fairy-types that Gengar took care of. If you would like to run a more offensive set you can always run the standard Scarf set.

Empoleon @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Roar
- Toxic / Stealth Rock
- Defog / Stealth Rock

Empoleon is also pretty good with your team having almost the same weaknesses as Excadrill. You can weaken Clefable by Scalding it a few times and then just Roar what when and make it lose its boosts.

If you wanna get caught up with "hip competitive lingo (lol)" you should check out this page: http://www.smogon.com/dp/articles/pokemon_dictionary

Hope my suggestions help you out. If you need any more help you can always PM. Good luck and have fun! ^o^

From what I've seen, both an opening lengthy description summing all pokemon (which is kind of what was present here, though it was a little skimpy) and a mon by mon description are fine. Maybe a mod will wade in and say differently, but sometimes lumping them into one description gives a better idea of how the team plays together rather than trying to disconnect them.

In terms of advice, I'd probably change Steel Wing on Talonflame for Tailwind. Steel Wing only offers you slightly better and situational coverage, while Tailwind benefits Breloom, Mega Gardevoir and Landorus quite significantly. I'd say of the two, Tailwind is less situational than Steel Wing.
