Gyarados @ Life Orb
EVs: 252 Sa/144 Atk/114 Spd or Hp
Mild Nature
-Hydro Pump
-Ice Beam
-Fire Blast
-Waterfall/HP {Grass}
Novelty-Set. The idea seems like a complete joke at first, but is actually a very useful way to utilize Gyarados. 144 Atk EVs to 2hitKO Max Hp/Def Bliss w/ Waterfall. And I dumped the rest in Speed for outspeeding some foes or contribute to your Hp to add durability.
-Hydro Pump hits Phy. Walls like Hippo/Gliscy/Phan
-Ice Beam handles Dragons.
-Fire Blast to dent Bulky Steel types, and Tangrowth.
-Waterfall to damage Special Walls.
-HP {Grass} is good at hitting Swampy and other waters that otherwise wall this set.
*Damage Calculations*
=Hydro Pump=
-vs Max Def/Hp Hippowdon = 1 HitKO
-vs Max Def/Hp Gliscor = 1HitKO
-vs Max Def/Hp Donphan = 1HitKO
-vs 56 Hp/Min Sp.Def Heatran = 1HitKO
-vs Max Def/Hp Weezing = 2HitKO
=Ice Beam=
-vs Min Hp/Sp.Def Garchomp = 1HitKO
-vs Min Hp/Sp.Def Salamence = 1 HitKO
=Fire Blast=
-vs Max Hp/Def Tangrowth = 1 HitKO
-vs Max Hp/Def Metagross = 2HitKO
-vs Max Hp/Def Fortress = 1HitKO
-vs Max Hp/Def Jirachi = 2HitKO
-vs Max Hp/Def Celebi = 2HitKO
=Waterfall=
-vs Max Def/Hp Blissey = 2HitKO
-vs Max Sp.Def/Hp Regice = 2/3 HitKO

As you can see Few things can safely switch-in into this as it 1 or 2 HitKOs some of the most common walls in the game.
-Hippowdon
-Gliscor
-Donphan
-Weezing
-Tangrowth
-Fortress
-Jirachi
-Celebi
-Blissey
-Regice
-Etc.
Nice eh? What do you think?

Decent concept but I suspect that you get the same results in most of the above cases with Waterfall after 1 or 2 DDs

Gyrados can set up on a lot of things. This set will probably catch people by surprise if anything.

You said you put calculations...but where are they? All I see is "I can OHKO this, 2HKO that, blahblah".

Also, Life Orb on a Pokemon and letting it mix attack is nothing new. Especially not Gyarados, who has been considered special-attacking gimmick #1 ever since GSC.

Also, novelty sets tend to not be good by definition...yet you seem undecided on what it is: novelty or good.

Seeing as Gyarados can easily set up on almost all of the pokemon listed with taunt and DD, I really don't see much use for this. It can do much more damage by setting up and being able to sweep a team then by getting a surprise kill and doing little else.

If some concept or idea seems painfully obvious to you, there's a good chance someone has thought of it first. Therefore, it makes sense to search before you post (or whatever, as this is applicable to more than forums).

Really, the problem of this set is that Gyarados can do other things better, and other Pokemon can do this thing better.

You're right searching is a good idea on fora. Too bad that the search function has been replaced with google, wich doesn't work all that well.

The set will surprise someone I guess, and it takes out a lot of physical walls by surprise, so packing another physical sweeper seems a good idea with this.

the calcs are interesting, but the only thing on your list i might switch into gyra is weezing (which is not an ohko. if that was my best special gyra counter, i would quit pokemon

The problem here is that without taunt or DD, I'm pretty sure your opponent will know something's up on the switch (assuming you're forcing a switch into thier gyara counter). The only thing to do without completely showing your hand is using waterfall, and it probably won't do too much without the adamant nature and lack of attack EVs.

I'm not saying I think its a bad idea, I'm just having issues on how you'd implement it.

random nitpick: people attempt to fight gyara with hippowdon/gliscor/donphan in the first place? that seems like a lost cause

i think this sort of set would be better off with thunder to take care of the bulky waters that are going to be switching in. i don't feel like running calcs though because the idea is pretty stupid anyway.

144 Atk EVs to 2hitKO Max Hp/Def Bliss w/ Waterfall.

144 Atk Waterfall w/Life Orb vs 252/252 Blissey = 39.08% - 45.94%

Waterfall will never 2HKO Blissey without a crit.

-vs Max Sp.Def/Hp Regice = 2/3 HitKO

144 Atk Waterfall w/Life Orb vs 252/0 Regice = 42.58% - 50.27%

Never a 2HKO on Regice even if he opts to use no Defence EV's whatsoever. Maybe with max damage twice in a row, in a Sandstorm. Shame Regice normally runs Max Def though.
