Warstory: Mono-Steel wins games

Greetings fellow Smogoners, I bring you today a Warstory. Not just any warstory, but one with a mono-type team. I was thinking of creating a new team to tryout, and when I was putting it together, I realized most of the Pokemon I had chosen were steel types. So I thought to myself "Why not just make it completely mono-steel?" And so I did! Steel types are awesome because they are immune to poison (good day Toxic Spikes), immune to Sandstorm, and resist Stealth Rocks; which are very popular among the metagame. It's also a known fact that cool people use mono-type teams. So here it is:

My team (in order of appearance):

CaptainKishimoto sent out Dôtakun (lvl 100 Bronzong).
TestYourMight sent out Roserade (lvl 100 Roserade ?).

I lead off with Bronzong and my opponent with Roserade. Now I know that Roserades carry Natural Cure, so I thought sleeping would waste a turn. Also Bronzong doesn't really mind being slept, so I just went for a Stealth Rock.

TestYourMight switched in Machamp (lvl 100 Machamp ?).
Bronzong used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around your foe's team!

Machamp used Close Combat.
Bronzong lost 53% of its health.
Machamp's defence was lowered.
Machamp's special defence was lowered.
Bronzong used Hypnosis.
Bronzong's attack missed!
Bronzong's leftovers restored its health a little!
Bronzong restored 6% of its health.

He switches to Machamp for some reason and I get a free Stealth Rocks. Now I'm not sure what kind of Machamp he was using, so I stayed in and use Hypnosis. Of course I get owned, and the sleep misses. I can't stay in or Bronzong is finished, so I switch over to Skarmory.

CaptainKishimoto switched in Eâmudo (lvl 100 Skarmory ?).
Machamp used Close Combat.
Skarmory lost 40% of its health.
Machamp's defence was lowered.
Machamp's special defence was lowered.
Skarmory's leftovers restored its health a little!
Skarmory restored 6% of its health.

Skarmory takes a huge hit from Close Combat, but manages to hold on. Now I predict that he's going to switch, as he won't be able to kill Skarmory, and that if he does indeed go first, then he will surely die. So I use Swords Dance to prep for what might come out.

TestYourMight switched in Roserade (lvl 100 Roserade ?).
Pointed stones dug into Roserade.
Roserade lost 12% of its health.
Skarmory used Swords Dance.
Skarmory's attack was sharply raised.
Skarmory's leftovers restored its health a little!
Skarmory restored 6% of its health.

Roserade used Sleep Powder.
Skarmory fell asleep!
Skarmory is fast asleep!
Skarmory's leftovers restored its health a little!
Skarmory restored 6% of its health.

He switches to Roserade, so I intended to use Brave Bird. However, the gods love Roserade, and Sleep Powder hits. I'm forced to switch because I don't know if that thing carries HP Fire or if he has something that can setup on me.

CaptainKishimoto switched in Dôtakun (lvl 100 Bronzong).
Roserade used Toxic Spikes.
Spikes were scattered everywhere!
Toxic Spikes were scattered around the foe's team!
Bronzong's leftovers restored its health a little!
Bronzong restored 6% of its health.

I had a little chuckle here, he'll be wasting a few turns doing this.

Roserade used Toxic Spikes.
Toxic Spikes were scattered around the foe's team!
Bronzong used Hypnosis.
Roserade fell asleep!
Bronzong's leftovers restored its health a little!
Bronzong restored 6% of its health.

I sleep trying to force a switch. I just use Gyro Ball to get some sort of damage in just in case he does stay.

TestYourMight switched in Zapdos (lvl 100 Zapdos).
Zapdos is exerting its pressure!
Pointed stones dug into Zapdos.
Zapdos lost 25% of its health.
Bronzong used Gyro Ball.
It's not very effective...
Zapdos lost 13% of its health.
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.
Bronzong's leftovers restored its health a little!
Bronzong restored 6% of its health.

He switches to Zapdos, which seemed odd to me as Zapdos can't really take out Bronzong. I thought that he might be an agility passer, but I can stlil probably wall whatever he brings out. So I stay in to see what his plan was.

Zapdos used Roost.
Zapdos restored 32% of its health.
Bronzong used Gyro Ball.
It's not very effective...
Zapdos lost 14% of its health.
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.
Bronzong's leftovers restored its health a little!
Bronzong restored 6% of its health.

Zapdos used Thunder Wave.

Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.
Bronzong's leftovers restored its health a little!
Bronzong restored 6% of its health.

At this point, I had no idea, so I swap to something that has a chance of killing Zapdos before he's able to.

CaptainKishimoto switched in Jibakoiru (lvl 100 Magnezone).
Zapdos used Protect.
Zapdos protected itself!
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.

Zapdos used Thunder Wave.
Magnezone is paralysed! It may be unable to move!
Magnezone used Hidden Power.
It's super effective!

Zapdos's substitute faded!
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.

Zapdos used Protect.
Zapdos protected itself!
Magnezone used Hidden Power.
Zapdos protected itself!
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.

Here is where I learned that he was PP stalling. Which is good in a way, but in another more gay way, it's quite bad. I just stay in to try and get some hacks going, and I don't want to switch out and leave him with a Sub. I removed the stall session we have here.

Zapdos used Roost.
Zapdos restored 31% of its health.
Magnezone used Discharge.
It's not very effective...
Zapdos lost 23% of its health.
Zapdos is paralysed! It may be unable to move!
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.

After almost running out of HP Ice PP, I decided to start using Discharge. Wouldn't you know that the first one gave me a para-hax. This forces him to switch into one of my most hated enemies...

TestYourMight switched in Blissey (lvl 100 Blissey ?).
Pointed stones dug into Blissey.
Blissey lost 12% of its health.
Magnezone used Hidden Power.

He switches to Blissey, and since I don't want to deal with this shit, I explode.

Blissey used Flamethrower.
It's super effective!
Magnezone lost 44% of its health.
Mangezone used Explosion.
Blissey lost 85% of its health.

Blissey manages to hang on, but it doesn't matter because I send in Lucario to finish the job.

CaptainKishimoto switched in Rukario (lvl 100 Lucario ?).
Pointed stones dug into Lucario.
Lucario lost 3% of its health.
Lucario used Extremespeed.

It's super effective!
The substitute took damage for Gengar!
Gengar's substitute faded!
Gengar's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gengar restored 6% of its health.

He brings in Gengar, which kind of scares me because he can obviously kill me. He ends up subbing, which I would assume because he thinks that I would switch out. I stay in because Lucario is my best bet to take him down.

Gengar used Hypnosis.
But it failed!
Lucario used Crunch.
It's super effective!
Gengar lost 69% of its health.
TestYourMight's Gengar fainted.
Lucario lost 10% of its health.

CaptainKishimoto - 5
TestYourMight - 4

He had forgotten that my Skarmory was still asleep, and that proved costly. Lucario takes Gengar down, receiving no damage (except from Life Orb =]).

TestYourMight switched in Gyarados (lvl 100 Gyarados ?).
Gyarados's intimidate cut Lucario's attack!
Pointed stones dug into Gyarados.
Gyarados lost 25% of its health.

He switches into Gyarados, which Intimidates me. Though my Lucario does carry Stone Edge, I wasn't sure if it'd be OHKO'd with Intimidate. Therefore I switch out to Skarmory to wall.

CaptainKishimoto switched in Eâmudo (lvl 100 Skarmory ?).
Pointed stones dug into Skarmory.
Skarmory lost 12% of its health.

Skarmory restored 6% of its health.

It's fairly obvious that Gyarados is preparing to setup. Even if he wasn't, I was still going to Whirlwind as having a sub up is never good for you.

Gyarados used Dragon Dance.
Gyarados's attack was raised.
Gyarados's speed was raised.
Skarmory woke up!
Skarmory used Whirlwind.
TestYourMight switched in Machamp (lvl 100 Machamp ?).

I get some hax going on as Skarmory wakes up, and brings in Machamp in Gyarados's place. I use Swords Dance because I thought for some reason he would switch out, but he uses Close Combat on me instead.

Skarmory used Swords Dance.
Skarmory's attack was sharply raised.

Skarmory lost 46% of its health.
Machamp's defence was lowered.
Machamp's special defence was lowered.

At this point, I should've used Brave Bird. However instead you will see me doing something incredibly stupid.

Skarmory used Roost.
Skarmory restored 50% of its health.
Machamp used Close Combat.
It's super effective!
Skarmory lost 88% of its health.
CaptainKishimoto's Skarmory fainted.
Machamp's defence was lowered.
Machamp's special defence was lowered.

He of course switches out and continues to destroy my PP with Zapdos. Another stall war ensues...

Zapdos is paralysed! It can't move!
Bronzong used Gyro Ball.
It's not very effective...
A critical hit!
The substitute took damage for Zapdos!
Zapdos's substitute faded!

CaptainKishimoto switched in Lucario (lvl 100 Lucario ?).
Pointed stones dug into Lucario.
Lucario lost 3% of its health.
Zapdos is paralysed! It can't move!

I was tired of stalling, so I went to Lucario. There was a good chance that I could kill Zapdos, and another chance that I would get stalled to death.

Lucario used Stone Edge.
It's super effective!
Zapdos lost 58% of its health.
Lucario lost 10% of its health.
Zapdos used Thunder Wave.

Mainly for lol purposes, but he gets a free leftover recovery out of it

Zapdos used Roost.

I was mad that I wasn't able KO Zapdos, as he had like no HP after that Stone Edge. Of course, he roosts which basically made this turn a complete waste.

Zapdos used Protect.
Zapdos protected itself!
Lucario used Stone Edge.
Zapdos protected itself!

He again protects in which I again fail to use a different move. This of course screws me over...

Lucario lost 10% of its health.
Zapdos used Roost.
Zapdos restored 50% of its health.
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!

I should've used Close Combat, seeing as how he had no moves whatsoever to take advantage of the defence drop. Instead I used Extreme Speed to ensure that I would hit first (and see how much damage it would do).

CaptainKishimoto switched in Dôtakun (lvl 100 Bronzong).

Of course I didn't get it, but Bronzong managed to be great death fodder as I send in something that raped Zapdos.

CaptainKishimoto switched in Hîdoran (lvl 100 Heatran ?).
Pointed stones dug into Heatran.
Heatran lost 12% of its health.
Zapdos is paralysed! It can't move!

TestYourMight's Zapdos fainted.

CaptainKishimoto - 3
TestYourMight - 3

Some of you may have been thinking why I didn't send in Heatran earlier. Mostly because I didn't want to get gayed in the fact that I wouldn't be able to KO him and he would paralyze me (which is REALLY bad because Heatran is Choice Scarf'd). I end up getting both para-hax and the crit, which made me happy as that yellow chicken deserved it.

TestYourMight switched in Gyarados (lvl 100 Gyarados ?).
Gyarados's intimidate cut Heatran's attack!

Gyarados restored 6% of its health.

CaptainKishimoto - 2

Here I do something quite costly. I saw that Gyarados had around 20% of HP left, so I figured that HP Ice SHOULD kill it. But of course it didn't, but it doesn't matter as I send in Lucario to finish the job once again.

CaptainKishimoto switched in Rukario (lvl 100 Lucario ?).
Pointed stones dug into Lucario.
Lucario lost 3% of its health.

He sends in Roserade, but anything can really take out Lucario at this point. I end up using Extremespeed to ensure I go faster and hopefuly do some damage. He kills my Lucario and I send out my last Pokemon.

CaptainKishimoto switched in Metagurosu (lvl 100 Metagross).
Pointed stones dug into Metagross.
Metagross lost 6% of its health.

Now my Metagross is Choice Banded, so I chose to use Earthquake as it's the only move that I have that isn't resisted by Machamp (well Explosion but <_<). I take down Roserade with ease, but I take a huge chunk of damage.

TestYourMight switched in Machamp (lvl 100 Machamp ?).

Metagross was left with literally 1% of HP, which was the best kind of hax I could've gotten. =] That match was now mine.

TestYourMight's Machamp fainted.
CaptainKishimoto wins!

CaptainKishimoto - 1
TestYourMight - 0

I of course could've played the match much better, but I was happy with the outcome (who isn't happy about winning?) I just hope there are no more of these Zapdos' flying around...

Props:
  • Lucario for finishing off several threats (i.e. Blissey and Gyarados)
  • Heatran for killing Zapdos
  • Metagross for living with 1% HP =]
Slops:
  • Zapdos for having complete control over most of the game
  • Bronzong for exploding on nothing
  • Magnezone not doing much

I'm sorry, but the hax and overall bad plays just made me shy away from the story.

Warstories should be posted in this manner:

*Pokemon is sent out*
what i think of the matchup and what I decide to do.

*What happens*
what I think about what happened and what I planned on doing next

the problem with this warstory and most other ones is the fact that you don't give much insite on the moves that you've done. not to mention that "I decided to Hypnosis but it missed" is just repeating what was generally happened. It doesn't make a story any better and any more enjoyable. If it wasn't about the fact that you were screwed over by something that Garchomp gets 3 SDs on(T-Wave, Roost, Sub, Protect Zapdos) that made this story entirely unappealing, I don't know what is.

Anyway, I do admire the fact that you had a close match and make a warstory out of it. It shows that you really do enjoy the game of pokemon and your trying to make everyone enjoy it as well. While maybe it wasn't the best story, at least it was something. Don't ever be ashamed of it

Quite a nice decent warstory, but there was quite a lot of hax involved :[ (Gyara and meta surviving for example)

I'm agreeing with Articanus on this one.

Though I'm a little confused on something.

"Now my Metagross is Choice Banded, so I chose to use Earthquake as it's the only move that I have that isn't resisted by Machamp (well Explosion but <_<)."

Earthquake/Explosion/Pursuit/Rock Slide?

Mono teams are admirable in a certain way, perhaps like the Special Olympics. Nonetheless, this warstory was fairly boring.

The fact that it still only consits of OU standards makes this Mono Team a lot less impressing, in my humble opinion.

Everyone loves a good mono team, and i'd imagine steel teams work well thanks to the useful dual typings that remove shared weaknesses.

This warstory blew chunks though.

Here's a few tips:

Summarize stall wars by removing things that happen over and over (as with Zapdos)

and

remove nicknames

Some other things have been said, and I guess the warstory was around below average (I'm not one to talk; I don't write them very well either).
