Warstory: My first D/P Wi-Fi battle. StarWizard VS S0ck

Hello there ladies and gentleman. After finding out that our internet here at my house has Nintendo DS supported Wi-Fi (which saved me the money I was going to spend with the USB adapter, and also let me battle last night right away ^^) I go to the battle thread and I see S0ck is also looking for one. We quickly swap Friend Codes and I join his game.

StarWizard (Link) VS S0ck (Regan)

I always name my pokémon character Link, and my rival Ganon. I like to think that all good RPG I play are as good as the Zelda games =D

Link's team:

I was impressed at how similar our teams are while we battled. We both pack the Gyarados/Electivire combo, a special sweeper (Gengar, Azelf), a special wall (Cresselia, Blissey), a physical wall (Swampert, Rhyperior). The only obvious differential was Infernape and Tangrowth, really. See for yourselves how did it all go:

Link sent out Optimus (Infernape)!
Regan sent out Tangrowth!

Nice! There's really nothing Tangrowth can do to Infernape, specially considering Infernape is faster and can OHKO with a fire attack on the special side. I was 95% confident he would switch, so I...

Regan withdrew Tangrowth! Regan sent out Gyarados!
Gyarados' Intimidate cuts Optimus' attack!
Optimus used Swords Dance! Optimus' attack sharply rose!

Ooh, chinese dragons, heh? That's awesome. Specially considering Optimus had just gotten a +1 boost to his attack. Knowing he probably has no idea now what my Infernape is up to, he will probably leave Gyarados in to DD in hopes I switch out. The chinese invented the fireworks, so I guess chinese dragons fly like rockets when you give them a little energy power?

Optimus used ThunderPunch! (100% damage)
Gyarados was sent out flying in the speed of light!
Gyarados fainted!
Regan sent out Rhyperior!
6-5

He left Gyarados in, that's awesome! Optimus was at full health with +1 attack and Gyarados was just taken care of. Things were looking great. He sent out Rhinox. I mean, Rhyperior. I decided to stay in and take a second one down with Infernape.

Optimus used Close Combat! (~65% damage)
Rhyperior used Earthquake! Optimus hold onto its Focus Sash! (99% damage)
Rhyperior's leftovers restored its hp a little! (Back to ~40% health)

He got a free send-in when Gyarados died and chose Rhyperior, so I took it as he wasn't switching him out. I decided to sacrifice Optimus right away because if he eventually Stealth Rocks the arena then Focus Sash would be rendered useless. It worked and Optimus was kept alive by its Focus Sash, and was now ready to KO Rhyperior.

Regan withdrew Rhyperior! Regan sent out Azelf!
Optimus used Close Combat! (Azelf ~45%)

Oh well. Optimus did a great job, 220% total damage to his team, so I was more than content.

Azelf used Psychic! (1%)
Optimus, feeling the end was right there and then: “We will win if we believe in ourselves and our unity.” (Infernape 0%)
Optimus fainted!
5-5

You did a fantastic job, Optimus. Now it's time for the rest of the team to avenge your hairy death.

Go! Cerridwen (Cresselia)!

I don't have anything faster than Azelf in my team, so I decided to send Cresselia in hopes that he explodes and I don't roll over and die to some massive elf sweeping.

Regan withdrew Azelf! Regan sent out Tangrowth!
Cerridwen used Reflect!

Meh. I will have to deal with the elf later, after all. Untangling some vines seems to be a more pressing business.

Cerridwen used Calm Mind! Cerridwen's special attack rose! Cerridwen's special defense rose!
Tangrowth used Sleep Powder! Cerridwen fell asleep!
Cerridwen's Lum Berry cured its sleep status!

Yes, I went for Lum Berry with Cresselia. She isn't RestTalk and can't afford to be statused, being really important for the team, so I decided to try something different here and it worked perfectly.

Cerridwen used Ice Beam! (~95% damage)
Tangrowth used Sleep Powder!
Tangrowth's attack missed!
Tanrowth's leftovers restored its hp a little! (back to ~10%)

This is what happens when your legendary has 20ish IVs, I guess, lol. Even after one Calm Mind I wasn't able to kill Tangrowth.

Regan withdrew Tangrowth! Regan sent out Blissey!
Cerridwen used Ice Beam for a little more than leftovers recovery! (Blissey was at ~95%)

Leftovers didn't cure it all? Nice!

Cerridwen used Charge Beam! Cerridwen's special attack rose! (Blissey ~85%)
Blissey used Seismic Toss! (Cresselia ~76%)
Blissey's leftovers restored its hp back to 90% health!

I decided to keep trying to further raise my special attack.

Cerridwen used Charge Beam! (Blissey ~65%)
Blissey used Seismic Toss! (Cresselia ~52%)

No boost? Again!

Regan withdrew Blissey! Regan sent out Electivire!
Electivire's Motor Drive raises its speed by absorbing Charge Beam!

Oops. That wasn't supposed to happen. Since he hadn't switched Electivire in during the last turn I figured he didn't have one in his team. I was wrong and now in trouble.

Electivire used ThunderPunch! (Cresselia ~28%)
Cerridwen used Reflect!

It was time for Cresselia to take one for the team as well. I managed to Reflect so the team would get a few turns of protection.

Electivire used ThunderPunch! (Cresselia ~10%)
Cerridwen used Ice Beam! (Electivire ~60%)
Regan withdrew Electivire! Regan sent out Blissey!
Cerridwen used Ice Beam! (Blissey ~55%, leftovers already applied)

Huh? Another ThunderPunch would kill Cresselia, and his Vire was already motor driven. That was odd.

Cerridwen used Ice Beam! (Blissey ~40%)
Blissey used Seismic Toss! (Cresselia 0%)
Cerridwen fainted!
4-5

I had Blissey right where I wanted her. Time to spike things up.

Go! Swampert!
Swampert used Stealth Rock!
Pointed stones float around the opponent's field...
Blissey tried to Sing but her voice failed!
Blissey's leftovers restored its hp a little (~45%)

Stealth Rock was on!

Blissey takes a pill for her throat and Sings!
Swampert fell asleep!
Swampert is fast asleep!
Blissey's leftovers restored its hp a little (~50%)

Time to abuse the sleep clause.

Swampert, come back! Go! Arawn (Gengar)!
Regan withdrew Blissey! Regan sent out Azelf!
Pointed stones dig into Azelf! (Azelf ~34%)

Ok, now things are getting serious. I have no pokémon in my team that is faster than Azelf or that can take two hits from one. Swampert's asleep, though, so I'd rather sacrifice him than Gengar.

Gengar, come back! Go, Swampert!
Azelf used Psychic! (Swampert ~55% after leftovers)

Azelf used Nasty Plot! Azelf's special attack sharply rose!
Swampert is fast asleep! (Swampert ~60% thanks to leftovers)

I can't believe I did that. By sending a sleeping pokémon I gave him a free setup. Such a terrible mistake. I thought it was all over, as there's no way anyone will survive a Nasty Plotted Psychic, and I can't outspeed the damned elf.

Azelf used Psychic! (Swampert 0%)
Swampert wakes up, slaps me in the face and calls me stupid.
Swampert fainted!
3-5

Meh. It was all over. 0-5, dying horribly to an elf.

Go! Arawn (Gengar)!
Azelf used Pyschic (Gengar 0%)
2-5

Just two more and I'll be freed from this pain.

Go! Camalus (Gyarados)!
Camalus' Intimidate cuts Azelf's attack!

Azelf used Psychic! (Gyarados ~19%)
Camalus used Waterfall! (Azelf 0%)
Azelf is finally down and Link sees a glimpse of hope!
Camalus' Shell Bell restores its hp back to 21%!
2-4

What? Nasty Plotted 135 BP Psychic didn't OHKO? Ok my Gyarados has a 31 in Hp and a 30 in SDef, alongside 384 HP total, but that was ridiculously surprising! Maybe his Azelf has a bad Satk IV? No idea, but I'm not going to complain here.

Regan sent out Electivire!
Pointed stones dig into Electivire! (Electivire ~47%)

He doesn't know that my last pokémon is Electivire, and I am going to exploit that. I also have no choice, as Electivire will kill my Gyarados with any other attack that isn't Earthquake.

Camalus, come back! Go, Myrrdin (Electivire)!
Myrrdin's Motor Drive raises its speed by absorbing ThunderPunch!

And now we're talking!

Regan withdrew Electivire! Regan sent out Blissey!
Pointed stones and Fire Punch come smashing Blissey down! (Blissey 10%)
Life Orb and Leftovers do their trick (Electivire 90%, Blissey 15%)

Blissey is going down finally?

Regan withdrew Blissey! Regan sent out Tangrowth!
Tangrowth is welcomed by floating stones and can't do squat! (Tangrowth 0%)
Tangrowth fainted!
Myrrdin Low Kicks the air and looks stupid!
2-3

He sacrifices Tangrowth for the team. I wonder why he didn't do it Electivire --> Tangrowth style, though. His Blissey took some serious free damage this way and he could have avoided that.

Regan sent out Rhyperior!
Pointed stones and Low Kick hit Rhyperior in his particulars! (Rhyperior 0%)
Rhyperior fainted!
Myrrdin goes down to 80% due to Life Orb recoil!
2-2

With his Blissey and Electivire badly injured it's just a matter of sweeping. I can't believe I didn't roll over and die to his Azelf. Camalus is so great!

Regan sent out Blissey!
Pointed stones and Low Kick send the fat nurse packing! (Blissey 0%)
Blissey fainted!
Myrrdin goes down to 70% due to Life Orb recoil!
2-1

Regan sent out Electivire!
Pointed stones and Fire Punch put a nail in Regan's coffin! (Electivire 0%)
Electivire fainted!
Myrrdin goes down to 60% due to Life Orb recoil!
2-0

Phew. I won! This was an outstanding battle. Regan (S0ck) is a great player and I felt that the battle was really close, even though there were some lopsided moments. He won a second battle right after this one and we're tied 1-1. Just for clarification, I decided to warstory this one not because I won, but because it was the first (I had decided to take notes of the battle right away, as the battle started) and also because I didn't take notes of the second one. Anyway, prediction and switching becomes a lot easier once you know the other person's team and moves, so the second battle didn't have any really dramatic moments. Just a brief overview, during that one he managed to do the Azelf sweep full style and I think he won 4-0.

Nitpick away guys. This is my first warstory so I apologize if it doesn't make an interesting read, or if it's too long, etc. I just really wanted to post this as the battle was really interesting and intense. Props to S0ck for being a nice player before and after the games and for being part of a really good match.

Thanks for reading my warstory ^^

I rather liked that. You and S0ck are both obviously good battlers, and the match was interesting with a nice little twist at the end. I liked the little jokes in between the lines there (Swampert waking up and slapping you in the face) but the writing could be a little more interesting. One thing I didn't understand (and don't) is why you sent out Gengar against Nasty Plot Azelf. Did you think Gengar would be faster? Also, why did you send out a sleeping Swampert?

Besides that, your prediction skills were average, but the battle was good.

Good Read. Nice Zelda References then and again, although, it could use a little more humor. I liked it.
7/10

Nice battle, I like how you two exploited each others electric attacks. Psychic is 135 BP from Azelf, not 120 btw, so nice job breeding that Gyarados, those good IV's won you the battle. I think we should point all the non-IV/EV believers to this topic.

Any suggestions to spice up the writing? I'm all for improvements, to make my next warstories more interesting to all of you.

About Gengar vs Azelf, I honestly thought the battle was over by then. I had Gengar, Gyarados, and Electivire, and I figured neither could take a nasty plotted Psychic. I know Gengar has less base speed than Azelf, so I knew that Gengar would die to Psychic, but what else could I do? If he thought I was switching and nasty plotted one more time I'd KO with Shadow Ball. If he decided to use Psychic, there was no way Gyarados or Electivire would survive two nasty plotted psychics.

And yes sending a sleeping swampert to Azelf was stupid. I was hoping he would wake up and KO with Waterfall, but I know I couldn't possible rely on that. Still, Gyarados couldn't take 2 psychics (one in the switch in and another because Azelf is faster), so I decided to sacrifice Swampert to get a free switch. I think my mind blacked out about Nasty Plot, heh.

@ShadowNinja: That's right, Psychic is 90 BP. I'll edit that, thanks. And yes I'm 100% confident that my well-bred Gyarados is what won me the battle. Indeed that should teach those ''meh I'll settle for 20 something defenses'' guys a good lesson, as it was the one thing that prevented a horrid 5-0 sweep to Azelf.

Thanks for your comments guys, keep them coming. Also, please do nitpick away and suggest *anything*. And please do point out some horrid battle mistakes I may have made.

I'd also like to show this to all the people who are like "Natures make up for bad IV's, or good IV's make up for bad natures". And especially the people who go "Don't EV train! It ruins the game for everyone else who doesn't!"

Nice war story.

Interested, lucky you gyarados.

Low kick on Electivire? interesting!

I have a Hitmonchan with pretty good IVs, and I felt like using him with my good lonely female Electabuzz rather than go all the way and breed a good machop with the elemental punches to pass Cross Chop down. I also hate Cross Chop's accuracy, and Low Kick sends Tyranitar flying. Since Grass Knot is so good, I figured Low Kick could have its uses too. Also makes my Electivire a little different than all others, and I like that distinctive feel.

@ShadowNinja: I will too tell this story to anyone that comes to me with that crazy talk. Most people will find that out the hard way, but I'm more than willing to convert those disbelievers before they die horribly to well-bred fighters.

Gyarados lived with around 19%, so you would have been perfectly fine if you had 20 something defenses as well.

s0cks Azelf has good Ivs so i duno how Gyarados survived,

Azelf (Timid) 29/3/24/29/25/30 (OT vice66)
EVs: 32HP, 252 Spatt, 224 Speed
Psychic, Grass Knot, Flamethrower, Nasty Plot

Good warstory. I love to see Electivire in action as its my favorite poke.

Yes, in this case, but I was trying to make a point for good IVs in general. There are cases in which they are absolutely crucial. My Cresselia, for example, would've killed his Tangrowth in one hit if she had more than her 20 Satk IV. I had Stealth Rock in the arena so the rocks killed it later, but what if the second Sleep Powder had not missed? I'd certainly have had a much harder time had I not gotten lucky with my 1/4 odds.

Good read. Low Kick on Electivire was really surprising, but it was a nice little twist. Also wasn't expecting Fire Punch. Anyway, good read.

P.S.- SHADOW NINJA I AM GOING TO START STALKING YOU NOW :happybrain:

You would have been in a bit of trouble if he had switched to Electivire. But great battle, very interesting read, and I loved the jokes in between.

Lol, good luck with that. Remember, I am ShadowNINJA X7.

Props for using Low Kick on Electivire. Completely forgot about the fighting type Grass Rope! Send that fat bitch packing!

Nice story... interesting read. And I wasn't too surprised about Gyarados. People forget about his awesome base 100 SpDef to compliment his bulky HP. He survives just about every nonSTABed electric attack.

Great read! I enjoyed all those snippets you put between moves, but a particular one caught my eye because it seemed a little out of place. More specifically, the one that said "roll over and die," which doesn't work all the time, if you get what I'm saying. *cough* :p Still, again, a great read, and Low Kick on Vire was unexpected, nice usage of it.

@Bauer: My Electivire is the standard (Lonely, max atk, 270 spd, rest in Satk). The only tweak is the moveset, with Fire Punch and Low Kick over Earthquake and Cross Chop. Ice Punch and Thunderbolt round out the set.

@Eo Ut Mortus: Your warstory was the greatest!! Thanks for stopping by to comment on mine. And yeah I got that from yours, lol. I didn't think it would fit, but I wanted to put the homage in ^^

Thanks for the comments everyone, keep 'em coming.

I'm pretty sure that that wasn't mine, actually; I think I read it in another story (though I can't remember which). :p But thanks anyway.

Its sad to say Im in Las Vegas and on the smogon forums reading warstories. Im in the airport with an hour wait so I cant say I have anything better to do since Im not old enough to gamble lol. That was a good story. Not to menion the fact it was your first. Too bad your opponent was on a lower level of skill than you.
