Hello Smogon. This is the first warstory I've posted here. I've been playing NU for about six months now and I think it's time I shared a rather recent experience with my new Mono-Electric team(Lightning Offensive) and how the electric type is bulkier than it seems.

bagggs's team:
Haunter
Miltank
Machoke

Bastiodon
I'm using a balanced mono-electric team, something I rarely see anywhere. I plan to start this battle off by forcing the lead out and dealing a small amount of damage with Emolga's shenanigans. Emolga runs a Parafusion set, alongside Toxic to deal with ground types. Paralyzing leads/using toxic can really hurt later on in the game. Sometimes, an offensive pokemon like Zangoose can kill itself before it can even hit Emolga. I go for a Thunder Wave because Haunter is faster than me.
6-6 draw
Battle between Kierany9 and bagggs started!
Go! Emolga!
bagggs sent out Haunter!
Turn 1
Battle timer is now ON: inactive players will automatically lose when time's up. (requested by bagggs)
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
The foe's Haunter used Trick!
The foe's Haunter switched items with its target!
Emolga obtained one Choice Scarf.
The foe's Haunter obtained one Focus Sash.
Emolga used Thunder Wave!
The foe's Haunter is paralyzed! It may be unable to move!
...that could've gone better. Emolga is now choiced and is locked into Thunder Wave so it's no use anymore so I switch out to another Pokemon. Luxray is my best bet due to Haunter's paper-thin physical defenses.
Turn 2
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Emolga, come back!
Go! Luxray!
The foe's Haunter used Substitute!
The foe's Haunter put in a substitute!
The foe's Haunter lost 24% of its health!
Luxray's Flame Orb activated!
Luxray was burned!
I switch to Luxray. Why? Because Luxray hits like a truck. Since the team is mono-electric, I have a guts-facade Luxray instead of Flareon or Ursaring.
Turn 3
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Luxray used Facade!
It doesn't affect the foe's Haunter...
The foe's Haunter used Trick!
The foe's Haunter switched items with its target!
Luxray obtained one Focus Sash.
The foe's Haunter obtained one Flame Orb.
Luxray was hurt by its burn!
And I have a derp moment forgetting Ghost is immune to normal. I guess I was way too trigger-happy with Facade. However, Haunter uses Trick for some reason and steals my Flame Orb. Didn't need it anymore though.
Turn 4
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Luxray used Crunch!
It's super effective! The foe's Haunter's substitute faded!
The foe's Haunter used Thunderbolt!
It's not very effective... Luxray lost 19.9% of its health!
Luxray was hurt by its burn!
After actually remembering what is Super Effective against ghosts, I use Crunch. Combined with Guts, an SE crunch hurts no-matter what. That Haunter was lucky to have a sub up. It uses Thunderbolt to no avail.
Turn 5
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Kierany9: Flame Orb Haunter: GENIUS
bagggs withdrew Haunter!
bagggs sent out Bastiodon!
Luxray used Crunch!
It's not very effective... The foe's Bastiodon lost 10% of its health!
The foe's Bastiodon restored HP using its Leftovers!
Luxray was hurt by its burn!
With Haunter almost dead, my opponent switches to Bastiodon. Not much I can do here with Luxray(it completely walls me since all my attacks are NVE) so I switch out to Raichu.
Turn 6
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Luxray used Volt Switch!
The foe's Bastiodon lost 18% of its health!
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Luxray went back to Kierany9!
Go! Raichu!
Raichu floats in the air with its Air Balloon!
The foe's Bastiodon used Stealth Rock!
Pointed stones float in the air around your team!
The foe's Bastiodon restored HP using its Leftovers!
I switch out to Raichu, and just in time to avoid a nasty Stealth Rock. Raichu is the only Pokemon who can easily OHKO Bastiodon. Explanations in a minute.
Turn 7
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Raichu used Nasty Plot!
Raichu's Special Attack sharply rose!
The foe's Bastiodon used Metal Burst!
But it failed!
The foe's Bastiodon restored HP using its Leftovers!
I use Nasty Plot and hope to get one or two more in, so I can attempt to sweep the entire team with TBolt, Surf and HP Ice. My opponent predicts me using an offensive move, but I don't and Metal Burst fails.
Turn 8
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Raichu used Nasty Plot!
Raichu's Special Attack sharply rose!
The foe's Bastiodon used Roar!
Luxray was dragged out!
Pointed stones dug into Luxray!
The foe's Bastiodon restored HP using its Leftovers!
Luxray was hurt by its burn!
Hoping to get another Nasty Plot in, my opponent sees what I'm trying to do and roars Raichu away. And damnit! There goes Luxray. He's hanging on by a thread.
Turn 9
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Luxray used Facade!
It's not very effective... The foe's Bastiodon lost 9% of its health!
The foe's Bastiodon used Toxic!
But it failed!
The foe's Bastiodon restored HP using its Leftovers!
Luxray was hurt by its burn!
Thinking he'll use Roar, I try and deal a small amount of damage. But he doesn't use roar. Luxray can't do anything out here so I decide to switch back.
Turn 10
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Luxray used Volt Switch!
The foe's Bastiodon lost 17% of its health!
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Luxray went back to Kierany9!
Go! Rotom-Fan!
Pointed stones dug into Rotom-Fan!
The foe's Bastiodon used Roar!
Luxray was dragged out!
Pointed stones dug into Luxray!
Luxray fainted!
The foe's Bastiodon restored HP using its Leftovers!
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Go! Raichu!
Pointed stones dug into Raichu!
Raichu floats in the air with its Air Balloon!
NOW he uses Roar? That was possibly my opponent's smartest move in the entire game. Or maybe he just got lucky. Who knows? Regardless, he KO's Luxray, the only Pokemon that hits hard on the physical side.
5-6 disadvantage
Turn 11
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Raichu used Surf!
It's super effective! The foe's Bastiodon lost 39% of its health!
The foe's Bastiodon used Toxic!
Raichu was badly poisoned!
The foe's Bastiodon restored HP using its Leftovers!
Raichu was hurt by poison!
Surf: Nobody expects it. It's the reason why this team demolishes ground types who would otherwise EQ the team until it dies. Raichu has scored many victories for the team by either eliminating Ground types or pulling off a Nasty Plot sweep. Also kills Bastiodon.
Turn 12
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Raichu used Surf!
It's super effective! The foe's Bastiodon lost 39% of its health!
The foe's Bastiodon used Metal Burst!
Raichu lost 73.3% of its health!
Raichu's Air Balloon popped!
The foe's Bastiodon restored HP using its Leftovers!
Raichu was hurt by poison!
Raichu fainted!
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Go! Zebstrika!
Pointed stones dug into Zebstrika!
Forgetting it has metal burst was a bad idea and it takes out Raichu while Bastiodon hangs on by a thread after being hit by two Surfs. I also had a Derp moment and forgot what Metal burst was. It's a steel version of Counter that deals 1.5x damage regardless whether the hit was physical or special.
4-6 disadvantage
Turn 13
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Zebstrika used Volt Switch!
A critical hit! The foe's Bastiodon lost 16% of its health!
The foe's Bastiodon fainted!
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Zebstrika went back to Kierany9!
Go! Rotom-Fan!
Pointed stones dug into Rotom-Fan!
bagggs sent out Miltank!
I use Volt Switch to revenge kill Bastiodon and switch out to another Pokemon, since Scarfed Zebstrika can't actually kill much that isn't weakened. Zebstrika was a brand new addition to the team and actually works well as a revenge killer. That went better as expected.
4-5 disadvantage
Turn 14
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
The foe's Miltank used Body Slam!
Rotom-Fan lost 35.9% of its health!
Rotom-Fan used Pain Split!
The battlers shared their pain!
The foe's Miltank restored HP using its Leftovers!
Since Rotom F is already hurt by rocks, I really needed to recover fast. Enter Pain Split. Thanks for the HP!
Turn 15
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
The foe's Miltank used Body Slam!
Rotom-Fan lost 40.8% of its health!
Rotom-Fan is paralyzed! It may be unable to move!
Rotom-Fan used Pain Split!
The battlers shared their pain!
The foe's Miltank restored HP using its Leftovers!
No, seriously. I appretiate it a lot. In all seriousness, Pain Split and Trick on a Specs Rotom works better than one might expect(I didn't use trick here, but you get the point).
Turn 16
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Rotom-Fan, come back!
Go! Emolga!
Pointed stones dug into Emolga!
The foe's Miltank used Body Slam!
Emolga lost 60.5% of its health!
The foe's Miltank restored HP using its Leftovers!
Turn 17
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Emolga used Thunder Wave!
The foe's Miltank is paralyzed! It may be unable to move!
The foe's Miltank used Body Slam!
Emolga lost 14.6% of its health!
Emolga fainted!
The foe's Miltank restored HP using its Leftovers!
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Go! Rotom-Fan!
Pointed stones dug into Rotom-Fan!
Since I didn't use Trick and Rotom has specs, I decide to switch into Emolga, who manages to paralyze Miltank before fainting. I send out to Rotom to revenge kill it.
3-5 disadvantage
Turn 18
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
The foe's Miltank used Body Slam!
Rotom-Fan lost 30.3% of its health!
Rotom-Fan fainted!
The foe's Miltank restored HP using its Leftovers!
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Go! Ampharos!
Pointed stones dug into Ampharos!
Well that didn't go well. Since when did a paralyzed Miltank outspeed Rotom? I'm losing 2-5 and my only pokes left are Ampharos and Zebstrika.
2-5 disadvantage
Turn 19
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Ampharos used Cotton Guard!
Ampharos's Defense drastically rose!
The foe's Miltank used Earthquake!
It's super effective! Ampharos lost 18.2% of its health!
The foe's Miltank restored HP using its Leftovers!
This is where my defensive Ampharos shines. No walls, no special sweepers(except for Haunter) and nothing in Ampharos' way of a flawless victory! An electric type just tanked an Earthquake with ease. LIKE A BAWS!
Turn 20
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Kierany9: Nope
Ampharos used Cotton Guard!
Ampharos's Defense drastically rose!
The foe's Miltank used Earthquake!
It's super effective! Ampharos lost 10.4% of its health!
The foe's Miltank restored HP using its Leftovers!
See what I mean... Ampharos is at full defense(+6 or 4x) and almost nothing at all can harm it.
Turn 21
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Ampharos used Thunderbolt!
The foe's Miltank lost 44% of its health!
The foe's Miltank used Earthquake!
It's super effective! Ampharos lost 11.5% of its health!
The foe's Miltank restored HP using its Leftovers!
Ampharos can't wall forever. STAB Thunderbolt does the trick and easily 2HKO's the already hurt Miltank.
Turn 22
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Ampharos used Thunderbolt!
The foe's Miltank lost 42% of its health!
The foe's Miltank fainted!
bagggs sent out Haunter!
Ampharos KO's Miltank with ease. Next up, Haunter
2-4 disadvantage
Turn 23
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Ampharos used Rest!
Ampharos fell asleep!
Ampharos slept and became healthy!
Ampharos ate its Chesto Berry!
Ampharos woke up!
The foe's Haunter used Trick!
The foe's Haunter switched items with its target!
Ampharos obtained one Flame Orb.
Ampharos's Flame Orb activated!
Ampharos was burned!
I recovered with Rest since Ampharos was at about 50% and I couldn't wall more than two special attacks. I wake up with the Chesto Berry and then...fail much? Haunter passes me Luxray's Flame orb and I get burnt.
Turn 24
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Ampharos used Thunderbolt!
The foe's Haunter lost 71% of its health!
The foe's Haunter used Substitute!
It was too weak to make a substitute!
Ampharos was hurt by its burn!
Nope.avi. Thankfully, because of Emolga's TWave at the start of the round, I don't have to put up with some annoying Substitute mind-games since I can outspeed Haunter.
Turn 25
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Ampharos used Thunderbolt!
The foe's Haunter lost 5% of its health!
The foe's Haunter fainted!
Ampharos was hurt by its burn!
bagggs sent out Machoke!
With two STAB TBolts coming from Ampharos(who has an insane SAtk stat of 115 for NU), Haunter is easily eliminated. That was his last special sweeper. Ampharos can hold off every physical attack with ease because of Cotton Guard...
2-3 disadvantage
Turn 26
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Ampharos used Toxic!
The foe's Machoke was badly poisoned!
The foe's Machoke used DynamicPunch!
Ampharos lost 12.5% of its health!
Ampharos became confused!
The foe's Machoke lost some of its HP!
Ampharos was hurt by its burn!
The foe's Machoke was hurt by poison!
I decide to poison Machoke to stack up residual damage. But then I get DynamicPunched. Owch. I didn't expect that at all. Confusion and burn damage is going to stack up fast unless I do something.
Turn 27
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Ampharos is confused!
Ampharos lost 1.0% of its health!
The foe's Machoke used DynamicPunch!
Ampharos lost 10.9% of its health!
The foe's Machoke lost some of its HP!
Ampharos was hurt by its burn!
The foe's Machoke was hurt by poison!
Actually, never mind. Amphy's insane defense almost completely nullifies self-harm. The only thing that could kill me is not getting Rest off in time or a random crit.
Turn 28
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Ampharos is confused!
Ampharos used Rest!
Ampharos fell asleep!
Ampharos slept and became healthy!
The foe's Machoke used DynamicPunch!
Ampharos lost 12.0% of its health!
The foe's Machoke lost some of its HP!
The foe's Machoke was hurt by poison!
And I pull it off, losing my burn and confusion and recovering all the HP I lost. Thank goodness.
Turn 29
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Ampharos is fast asleep.
The foe's Machoke used Bulk Up!
The foe's Machoke's Attack rose!
The foe's Machoke's Defense rose!
The foe's Machoke was hurt by poison!
Turn 30
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Ampharos is fast asleep.
The foe's Machoke used DynamicPunch!
Ampharos lost 17.2% of its health!
The foe's Machoke lost some of its HP!
The foe's Machoke fainted!
bagggs sent out Pidgeot!
Poison kill. 3 turns of Toxic damage does more than one would expect(6%+12%+18%=36%). Ampharos can easily OHKO Pidgeot. Now to wake up...
2-2 draw
Turn 31
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
The foe's Pidgeot used Heat Wave!
Oh crap. I didn't expect Pidegot to have any special moves on it! This could screw me over!
...
...
Ampharos lost 15.6% of its health!
Never mind. Why a PIDGEOT has HEAT WAVE I'll never know.
Ampharos woke up!
Ampharos snapped out of its confusion.
Ampharos used Thunderbolt!
It's super effective! The foe's Pidgeot lost 100% of its health!
The foe's Pidgeot fainted!
Ampharos's Flame Orb activated!
Ampharos was burned!
bagggs sent out Wartortle!
Yeah...that was disappointing. SE TBolt coming from Amphaors, GG. Flame orb activated again though. Damnit.
2-1 advantage
Turn 32
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Ampharos used Thunderbolt!
It's super effective! The foe's Wartortle lost 96% of its health!
The foe's Wartortle used Earthquake!
A critical hit! Ampharos lost 100% of its health!
Ampharos fainted!
1-1 draw
Turn 33
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Zebstrika used Thunder!
The foe's Wartortle avoided the attack.
The foe's Wartortle used Earthquake!
A critical hit! Zebstrika lost 100% of its health!
Zebstrika fainted!
bagggs won the battle!
Kierany9: DEM CRITZ
bagggs: lol
bagggs won the battle!
...
...
...
Just kidding, that didn't actually happen. Wartortle can't even use Earthquake and I still had Scarfed Zebstrika in reserve(With a perfectly accurate TBolt). The result is much more predictable.
Turn 32
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Ampharos used Thunderbolt!
It's super effective! The foe's Wartortle lost 96% of its health!
The foe's Wartortle used Scald!
Ampharos lost 29.2% of its health!
The foe's Wartortle restored HP using its Leftovers!
Ampharos was hurt by its burn!
TBolt pulls through once again.
Turn 33
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
Kierany9: Gg
bagggs: gg
Ampharos used Thunderbolt!
It's super effective! The foe's Wartortle lost 10% of its health!
The foe's Wartortle fainted!
Kierany9 won the battle!
Kierany9 won the battle!
So that's that. It was a pretty good battle, not my best(I've used prediction and skill a lot better in other matches), but it showcases the true defensive power of Ampharos. And this isn't the only battle I've won by stalling with Ampharos. Far from it, Ampharos is the glue that holds this team together if a critical flamethrower tries to break it up. Electric types are few and far between, good ones moreso. Ampharos is one of those. Smogon's entry for Ampharos describes Cotton Guard as just a gimmick. I say it's a game-breaker. It has won me many matches that I would have otherwise lost. This Ampharos deserves a slot on any team. Hope you enjoyed this.
Best of the battle
- Ampharos took down 5 Pokemon single-handedly(four if you count the slight damage done to Miltank before sending it out)
Worst of the battle
- Actually losing 4 pokemon and only taking out one before sending out Ampharos
- My derp moments(Using Facade on Haunter and forgetting what Metal Burst was)
- A completely useless Support Haunter. If that was a Specially Offensive Haunter I could've easily lost the match.

bagggs sent out Miltank!
I use Volt Switch to revenge kill Bastiodon and switch out to another Pokemon, since Scarfed Zebstrika can't actually kill much that isn't weakened. Zebstrika was a brand new addition to the team and actually works well as a revenge killer. That went better as expected.

The foe's Miltank restored HP using its Leftovers!
No, seriously. I appretiate it a lot. In all seriousness, Pain Split and Trick on a Specs Rotom works better than one might expect(I didn't use trick here, but you get the point).

Ampharos's Defense drastically rose!
The foe's Miltank used Earthquake!

Ampharos used Thunderbolt!
The foe's Haunter lost 71% of its health!
The foe's Haunter used Substitute!
It was too weak to make a substitute!

Nope.avi. Thankfully, because of Emolga's TWave at the start of the round, I don't have to put up with some annoying Substitute mind-games since I can outspeed Haunter.

With two STAB TBolts coming from Ampharos(who has an insane SAtk stat of 115 for NU), Haunter is easily eliminated. That was his last special sweeper. Ampharos can hold off every physical attack with ease because of Cotton Guard...

Turn 31
You have 150 seconds to make your decision.
The foe's Pidgeot used Heat Wave!
Oh crap. I didn't expect Pidegot to have any special moves on it! This could screw me over!

Just kidding, that didn't actually happen. Wartortle can't even use Earthquake and I still had Scarfed Zebstrika in reserve(With a perfectly accurate TBolt). The result is much more predictable.
