Hey everybody. Long time reader, first time poster. I've been playing Pokemon since Gen 1, but I've never paid attention to competitive until Gen V. Which, might I add, is a great headache inducer when you're trying to learn all the jargon/meta/theory this late in the game. I work full-time, and I'm planning my wedding so finding the time to dedicate to the game is tough which could account for the lack of know-how.
Anyway, since I've started I've been intrigued by the monotype battles. It reminds me of being a gym leader, and that's awesome. So I've been tinkering around with different monos and Water seems to be the most effective. I only really have to worry around Grass and Electric, but I think (and hope) some of my choices at least balance that out.

Gastrodon is pretty self-explanatory. I like buff dudes that can take hits. He also negates Electric types, and then slams them with Earth Power. I also like Clear Smog to take out Moxie/Dragon Dance/etc. Really I just use him to shore up my ele weakness, and buy some time.[/CENTER]

Still one of the most boss Gen 1 pokemon IMO. I remember being blown away as a 5th grader when this guy evolved from my rinky-dink Magikarp. Also I always use shiny Gyarados because it's a fact it adds to all his stats. In all seriousness I use this champ to clobber with brute force and rack up that Moxie. I've had quite a few reversals go in my favor using Bounce, Ice Fang for Dragons, and Fire Blast allows me to walk away from Grass fights with a least a couple kills under my belt.

My second favorite type is Ghost, but I feel they are too underwhelming to monotype without serious commitment. I was pleased as punch that one of my favorite Gen Fivers is also in OU. In BW/B2W2 Jellicent was always in my top 6. I try to use her as one would a Gengar, but I think I'm under-utilizing here. Will-O-Wisp is for the Grass Types, and I Substitute Shadow Ball/Ice Beam according to who I'm facing. Beyond that I pray for Cursed Body procs.[/CENTER]

This is my first time really experimenting with Scarfs/Specs etc. I figured a faster physical sweep would be good to balance out my Gyarados, so Keldeo is my revenge/defense breaker. I don't know if I like or need Choice Scarf, but I like the priority he has. I could do without him and not be heartbroken.[/CENTER]

Another awesome Gen Wunner! Starmie is my Spinner. Nuff' said. Plus I really like Thunder Wave to hassle the other team. Ice Beam and Psychic are my attempts at filling out some move variety, but that's where I get a little lost. Any help here would be awesome.

Politoed is my Rain Man. I actually don't like weather teams, but I figured since I'm all water I could use the extra boost to any rain moves. I know I'm not at all using it to its utmost but I was honestly running out of valid Water OU to flesh this team out. I also don't like Politoed's single typing. I thought maybe Tentacruel instead, but I felt he was redundant considering Starmie.
