XY OU Weather Wars!!!

It's amazing how things have come full circle. The first RMT I wrote when I joined Smogon was a Rain Team. Now, with the rise of Sand Teams, it appears that we are somewhat back where we started with a need to combat Sand Offense. With that being said; here is the team that I came up with to go to war against Sand Offense.

Can't Build a Rain Team without the Rain Mon himself, so this was a given.

Since rain will be utilized, fire attacks will be weakened, allowing Steel Types to better absorb Fire attacks. Defog was needed so Scizor was selected.

Since we are going to clear hazards, there is nothing wrong with trying to set them ourselves. Since we had a steel type, I felt it prudent to invest in a FSD Core, therefore, Garchomp was added to the roster.

To complete the FSD core; we enlisted the services of arguable the most influential pokemon of the XY OU Metagame; Azumarill.

Since the team was composed of mostly physical attackers, Special Attackers were needed. To be more specific, opposing steel types and Mega Venusaur can wreck me. Therefore, the final two members of the team, Gothitelle and Magnezone, were selected for there particular subset of abilities... Trappin' Bitches.

DA ROCK!!!
Politoed @ Damp Rock
EV: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Ability: Drizzle
Bold Nature (+Def,-Atk)
IV: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Perish Song
- Toxic
- Encore

Role: Rain Inducer / Physcially Defensive Status Inducer

Is time to make it rain on dem mons. Went with the physically defensive set as it acts as a check to LO Sand Rush Excadrill. Aside from that, we need to keep this guy around for as long as the opponent has a Sand Stream user at their disposal. Otherwise, this is a pretty standard set overall so nothing to complicated to explain here.

Ray Lewis
Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
EV: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Atk
Ability: Rough Skin
Impish Nature (+Def,-SpA)
- Dragon Tail
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic

Role: Stealth Rock User and Walking Porcupine on Steroids

(Comes out of his Pokeball doing the "squirrel" dance) Yea, this bad boi is so versatile. Thanks to his offensive prowess, teams have to exercise a level of caution when going up against this behemoth. Things only get more complicated once I can start shuffling his mons after Stealth Rock is out. So simple, yet so effective... it truly is a beautiful thing.

Entrapment
Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
EV: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Ability: Magnet Pull
Timid Nature (+Spe,-Atk)
IV: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- HP Fire
- Flash Cannon
- Volt Switch

Role: Steel Trapper / Revenge Killer

Ferrothorn, Skarmory and Scizor beware. This dude out to trap you and smack you. Aside from that, went with a Timid Nature to outspeed Timid Max Speed Keldeo and OHKO it with Thunderbolt. Definitely would consider the Modest Choice Specs variant, but would like to gather more data on this set first.

(Mega Venusaur: OK... all I need do is switch out to Bisharp to pursuiittt...waaahhhh why can't I switch?!?!

Gothitelle [Evil ass smile]: Tag Bitch!!!)

Tag... Your It!!!
Gothitelle @ Choice Specs
EV: 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe (Props to Invok3r)
Ability: Shadow Tag
Modest Nature (+SpA,-Atk)
IV: 0 Atk
- Rest (Props to Invok3r)
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic
- Trick

Role: Trapper / Chansey Killer

What Magnezone misses out on, especially against Fighting types, with Magnet Pull, Goth gets with Shadow Tag. Mega Venusaur, Amoongus, Breloom are some of the primary targets of Gothitelle with Chansey and other passive targets as well. For passive targets, Trick absolutely F*CKS them over. (laughing maniacally)

Big Blue Machine
Azumarill @ Assault Vest
EV: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 SpD
Ability: Hugh Power
Adamant Nature (+Atk,-SpA)
- Aqua Jet
- Knock Off
- Waterfall
- Play Rough

Role: Offensive Pivot

Rain Boosted Aqua Jets hit hard as sh!t. This allows me to run the AV Variant so I can pivot when necessary. Knock Off makes this set extremely spammable and easy to work with. Can I just write "I ❤ Azumarill" and call it a day? ^_^

(Destroy those that have come to destroy me. That's what you are telling me, isn't it 0? Fine! As a true warrior I'll put an end to out fateful battle. Right here and now. - Zechs Merquise / Milliardo Peacecraft)

scizorite.png
212-m.png
scizorite.png

Epyon
Scizor @ Scizorite
EV: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Atk
Ability: Light Metal -> Technician
Impish Nature (+Def,-SpA)
- Defog
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
- U-Turn

Role: Hazard Control / Mega

With the banning of Mega Mawile to Ubers, Scizor is my favorite mega form to use and I really try hard to fit him into a team. He has so many roles and uses that one cannot truly determine his place until the game has unfolded. Scizor provides hazard control, priority and recovery all in one little neat package. In the end, like Epyon, Scizor likes getting up close and personal and tearing his opponents limb from limb.

EDIT: Replaced Knock Off < U-Turn to avoid getting trapped myself.

This is the team that came to mind. Let me know what you guys think.

Hey, nice team. Here are my suggestions:

Psyshock over Psychic on Goth. It helps you get past physical walls that would wall you otherwise.

Secondly, I think you should run Fire Blast over Toxic on your Rocky Helmet Garchomp as it would allow you to hit Skarmory and Ferrothorn, which wall your tank Garchomp otherwise (especially Rocky Helm/Iron Barbs Ferro).

Hope it helps!

Cool team Rafael! I would reccomend this gothitelle set:

Tag... Your It!!!
Gothitelle @ Choice Specs
EV: 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Ability: Shadow Tag
Modest Nature (+SpA,-Atk)
IV: 0 Atk
- Rest
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic
- Trick

This is my favorite goth set, and here is my reasoning. The only reason you run energy ball is to hit bulky waters like quagsire. Instead, you can trick it, locking it into one move. Then you can proceed to click rest until it runs out of pp. Also, rest let's you beat other pokemon, not just water types like energy ball does. You can beat chansey 1v1, by tricking it and clicking rest. With the 80 HP evs, you can always survive 3 seismic tosses at full health. Hope this helped!

Changes made... thanks for the response and the very sound reasoning.

Is the damp rock really necessary on Politied? Nobody on your team really abuses the rain, Politoed's main purpose seems to be changing the weather from sand, not keeping rain up for teammates. I would sugges using Leftovers or changing the spread to an offensive one (though if you really want to switch in on Excadrill you might be better off be physically defensive).

Umm, I really think you need some swift swim abusers. With no swift swim abusers, and a damp rock on politoed, it doesn't make a lot of sense.
EDIT: Ninja'd
I would recommend Kingdra over Gothitelle, with this set.
It gives you a much needed special attacker. It also helps deal with your mega venu weakness, as draco meteor does a truckload of damage.
252+ SpA Choice Specs Kingdra Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mega Venusaur: 240-283 (65.9 - 77.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

230.gif

Kingdra @ Choice Specs
EVs: 64 HP / 252 SpA / 192 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Draco Meteor
- Scald
- Dragon Pulse

Omastar is also a nice option over Gothitelle/Kingdra. It has extremely scary special attack, and decent speed in rain after the swift swim speed boost. It also hits like a nuke, being able to 2HKO ferrothorn with hydro pump in rain. This set maximizes its potential, and is a nice replacement if you find Kingdra boring, or not pulling it's weight.
btw for people who don't believe Omastar's power, look at this.
252+ SpA Choice Specs Omastar Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Ferrothorn in Rain: 179-211 (50.8 - 59.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

139.gif

Omastar @ Choice Specs
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power Grass
- Scald/Surf

Hydro pump is the main nuke here, being able to 2HKO ferrothorn, and nuke other stuff. It's extremely spammable, but it's low PP and accuracy can be annoying. Ice beam hits stuff like dragonite and latios, while HP grass hits gastrodon and quagsire pretty hard. Scald is the secondary STAB used to try to burn common switchins like azumarill. Surf can be used for more power than scald, but loses the ability to burn.
Nice team, when I first started pokemon, I also liked rain teams. Good luck :)
