Nat Dex Weavile [National Dex]

:ss/weavile:

Weavile @ Choice Band
Ability: Pickpocket
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Triple Axel
- Pursuit
- Ice Shard

Because of National Dex's identity as an expansion of SM, Pursuit is available. As such, Weavile is a trending Pokemon in National Dex as one of the best Pursuit trappers. Although Weavile is a solid check to Dragapult, it has only gotten better with Dragapult's recent departure. This is because there are far less splashable Pokemon available that can outspeed and threaten Mega Latias once it gets going with Calm Mind; Weavile is one of the very few available Pokemon that can do this. Not just that, but Weavile's Speed is highly valuable in general, as it can limit premier offensive threats like Mega Medicham, Cinderace, and Garchomp. Although Triple Axel is quite unreliable, it has recently been seeing more usage than Icicle Crash because it has a much better chance to OHKO Mega Latias than Icicle Crash does. Slower pivots like Blissey, Slowbro, and Corviknight are generally great teammates because they can safely bring Weavile in against Mega Latias. Other than that, you'll often want to pair Weavile with Pokemon that may struggle with Psychic-types. Mega Medicham and Reuniclus are good examples of such Pokemon that can struggle with bulky Psychic-types.

Because of National Dex's identity as an expansion of SM, Pursuit is available. Recently, -not really a recent trend- Weavile has been making some waves in National Dex as one of the best Pursuit trappers. Although Weavile was a solid check to Dragapult, it has only gotten better with Dragapult's departure. This is because there are far less splashable Pokemon available that can outspeed and threaten Mega Latias once it gets going with Calm Mind; Weavile is one of the very few remaining Pokemon that can do this. Other than that, you'll often want to pair Weavile with Pokemon that may struggle with Psychic-types which ones?. Mega Medicham and Reuniclus are good examples of such Pokemon that can struggle with bulky Psychic-types.

I think it's a little unfortunate that this hyperfocuses on Weavile's ability to limit only Mega Latias. The Speed control it offers as a revenge killer vs stuff like Mega Medicham, Cinderace, Gliscor, Reuniclus, and Garchomp is also pretty contributing to Weavile's appeal.
Well done, 1/1
