Wet and Wild

Introduction

Rain has been an integral part of the 5th Gen Metagame since Politoed was found to have Drizzle. The entirety of 5th Gen, up until now, I've been messing around with Sand team involving some form of Excadrill or Landorus in the Sand. Seeing as I needed some change, I wanted to experiment with Rain.

Since I've been in contact with one of the greatest females to play the game, Peachy, I decided to get her help. I told her about my wanting to use a Rain team with Blissey, so she helped me. We started talking about all viable things in Rain, but first we decided to list what we had:

With Blissey and Politoed set in, I needed something who can abuse Rain. She gave me the options of Rotom-W and Latios or Starmie and Dragonite. Being the person I am, I went with Rotom-W and Latios:

With two spots left, I decided to go with two things I liked, CB Scizor and Gliscor. I chose Scizor because I liked seeing it battle and I liked battling with it, therefore putting it on the team. Gliscor stems from Peachy giving me one of her Rain team, plus since Gliscor works best in all weathers:

The Team and Their Jobs
186.png

Politoed (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Perish Song
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Politoed is the integral part to any kind of Rain team that you don't want to waste a move slot on Rain Dance with. I wanted to play with Choice Scarf
toed because of his ability to get speed up and compete in a speed competition with just about any fast Pokemon you can name. With Max Speed EVs and Scarf Politoed reaches 358 speed, outspeeding +1 Jolly Scrafty, Jolly Terrakion, and Jolly Landorus.

Onto moves, Hydro Miss and Focus Miss are Politoed's strongest options, also being used to get rid of TTar, Heatran, and 2HKO Ferrothorn. Ice Beam aids in defeating Gliscor, Dragonite, Landorus, and Salamence. Hidden Power Grass is for those pesky Gastrodon and Swampert's.

Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 112 HP / 252 SAtk / 144 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Thunder
- Pain Split

Rotom-W is the next big part to this team. This is kinda the all around member of the team. It can set up a burn on the opponent's Physical attackers with Will-O-Wisp, stall for a bit with Pain Split, or all out attempt to sweep through the opponent. Volt Switch also assists Scizor in the Volt Switch-U-Turn combo. Hydro Pump is Rotom's greatest form of STAB available.

381.png

Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Dragon Pulse
- Surf
- Psyshock
- Recover

Latios is my main Ferrothorn and Scizor counter. HP Fire scores about 50% damage in the rain, leading to 2HKO's all around. Dragon Pulse is for all out STAB and countering slower Dragon's. Surf is boosted to a higher power due to Rain, which basically gives Latios a second STAB. Recover is to heal off the Life Orb damage.

212.png

Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Pursuit

Scizor is the main sweeper of the team. He normally tends to take out 2-3 of the opponents Pokemon. Bullet Punch is the best move in Scizor's arsenal, getting boosted higher with Technician and STAB. Pursuit is for when the Lati twins attempt to switch out. U-Turn covers my ass from Celebi. Superpower is why Scizor is known as the Tyranitar killer. Choice Band powers up every move, like an additional STAB.

242.png

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Wish
- Protect
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic

Blissey is here to stall out the Special attackers that will decimate my team. Wish-Protect allows me to heal off Blissey's damage or one of my sweepers damage. Seismic Toss is for Blissey to not be complete Taunt fodder. Toxic shuts down Pokemon not named Gliscor, or having the steel type.

Forretress @ Leftovers
Sturdy
Bold
252 Hp/ 176 Def/ 80 SpD
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Volt Switch

472.png

Gliscor (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Speed
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Taunt

Gliscor makes the team click. One of Gliscor's best aspects is his ability to sweep or stall. I made this Gliscor mainly as a sweeper. Gliscor carries Taunt to put an end to Skarmory. The combo of Ice/Ground gets around most Pokemon that aren't levitators with a Water secondary type. Swords Dance doubles Gliscor's Attack, OHKOing a large majority of the OU meta.

I guess I'll add an Export for people to take.
Politoed (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 112 HP / 252 SAtk / 144 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split

Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Dragon Pulse
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Recover

Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spd
Hardy Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Pursuit

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Wish
- Protect
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic

Gliscor (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Taunt

Hey there.

First off, I'm not sure why you are running a Hardy nature on Scizor. Run Adamant to give it more attacking power.

Your team would also benefit from entry hazards, seeing as how the lack of entry hazards makes pokemon such as Dragonite and Volcarona much more threatening. I suggest that you replace Wish on Blissey with Stealth Rock and replace Protect with Softboiled. Wish support isn't vital to your team regardless.

Now, SD Toxicroak, Sub DD Gyarados, SD Lucario, and CM Virizion all prove to be major threats to this team.

I suggest that you replace Hidden Power Fire on Latios with Psyshock in order to easily defeat Virizion; it also lets Latios 2HKO Blissey and Jellicent. Hidden Power Fire is weakened in the rain, making it much less useful; Surf can hit pokemon such as Scizor and Jirachi harder than it can in the rain.

In order to combat Substitute + Dragon Dance Gyarados, replace Volt Switch on Rotom-W with Thunder. This will allow Rotom to defeat Sub DD Gyarados quite easily, as otherwise it can set up on your team and sweep you easily. Thunder also provides a much stronger attacking move, forcing pokemon such as Jellicent and Tentacruel to be much more cautious when playing against Rotom-W.

I also suggest that you replace Focus Blast on Politoed with Perish Song. Perish Song is very useful in order to torment baton pass teams early on; it also helps as a "last ditch effort" against pokemon that you have incidentally let set up. Focus Blast does not deal that much damage to pokemon such as Ferrothorn regardless.

Finally, change Gliscor's EV spread to 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Speed. The speed investment allows Gliscor to outspeed and KO a variety of threats including SD Lucario and SD Toxicroak; Gliscor can still take physical hits easily.

Nice team. Hope I helped, and good luck!

Hi, this is a very good team. I would first like to second a few of ShakeItUp's changes. Adamant Nature instead of Hardy on Scizor for more power. This gives you a much better time when dealing with Dragonite and Salamence. As well, Psyshock over Hidden Power Fire and Draco Meteor over Dragon Pulse. With Psyshock, not only can Latios get through the Special Defenders that wall it, it also gives it that all important extra 1 speed. Giving it a chance to speed tie Gengar and Latias in emergency situations. Hidden Power Fire doesn't fit this team as it gets nerfed by the rain. Draco Meteor is one of the best reasons to use Latios, even after the Special Attack drop, 2 Draco Meteors hit much harder than 2 Dragon Pulses, and Latios will more often than not only be staying in 2 turns. Make the best of it. Thunder over Will-o-Wisp on Rotom. While the burn is useful in many situations, Volt Switch is a crucial aspect to this team: Switchturning. However, Sub DD Gyarados can simply Substitute as you Volt Switch, kill the switchin. Rinse and repeat until your team is decimated. Thunder would definately help you combat that. Gliscor wants a 252 Hp/ 40 Def/ 216 Spe Jolly Nature spread. The only reason Gliscor ever needed so much defense was to combat Excadrill. Now that Excadrill is gone, the only thing you'll have more difficulty dealing with is Terrakion, who with a Life Orb and SR damage, has a chance of OHKOing Gliscor even with 184 Def. 216 Spe allows you to outspeed Ice Punch Lucario and Mynism's Toxicroak, and OHKO with Earthquake.

Blissey appears to be the weak link of this team. Yeah, it sponges Special hits, but you already have most of them covered. Under the rain, Scizor can survive HP Fire and OHKO with U-Turn. Latios outspeeds and OHKOs Hydreigon. Scizor blasts Gengar to oblivion with Bullet Punch. Your team atm would really appreciate a Rapid Spinner, somebody to get up entry hazards, and someone to help take dragon moves. Forretress is somebody who can accomplish all of these. Rapid Spinning is incredibly important for a Switchturner team, you don't want Scizor taking 37.5% damage every time it switches in do you? With Latios' Draco Meteor, as well as Rotom-W and Scizor Switchturning, you are bound to force a lot of switches. Forretress can get up Stealth Rocks and Spikes, which are an absolute necessity on Switchturning teams. Hazards limit the number of times your opponent can switch in, rack up a lot of assive damage and put a lot more pressure on your opponent. Plus, Forretress can join the show by Volt Switching itself. This prevents Forretress from being picked off by Magnezone switchins and prevents it from becoming set up bait.

Thanks guys for your input. I've added your updates to the post and will be adding it to my actual team in a bit

Hey there,

Life Orb Latios, Life Orb/Expert Belt Hydreigon, Mixed Salamence/Dragonite and Trick Room Reuniclus are all great menaces to your team. With their great coverage and powerful STAB moves, they will be able to break through your team defenses quite easily, since you'll have to play mostly with Draco Meteor's SpA Drop to handle them. Even then, you have no way to realiably beat them, because while Scizor can trap some of them, it simply doesn't have the special bulk to switch into them continuously. While Scizor is a great Reuniclus check and all, Focus Blast deals immense dammage to it, which means one bad switch and you're basically screwed. Perhaps your team would greatly appreciate the services of a Specially Defensive Jirachi? It's probably the best switch in there is for Trick Room Reuniclus and LO Latios, and it isn't really threatened by Fire Blast for the previously mentioned Dragons in the rain. Wish is also fairly useful for your kind of team since it will take a lot entry hazards damage. I think you should swap Forretress for it, as Wishpass kinda patches up the lack of Rapid Spin support. Here's the set you should use:

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Serene Grace
Careful
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
-Stealth Rock / Body Slam
-Iron Head
-Wish
-Protect

Protect is an absolute necessity if you want to check Fire Blast Dragons in rain. You kinda need Stealth Rock on that team, and Jirachi is cool at setting them up. You can use Body Slam instead of Stealth Rock, since it really helps at beating Latias, and Latios can't leave uncripple, altough it can't really touch it.

Good luck!
