What actually is Support?

Support is basically giving way to other Pokemon on your team so that they can sweep or do their thing.

Forms of this come in restoring HP, Trick Rooming, Weather alterations, Paralysis, stat boosts, etc.
 
Support is using moves that have a beneficial effect that can be passed on to another pokemon on your team such as using moves like wish or reflect. The best supporter in my opinion is Jirachi.
 
Support means the the opportunity cost of the support pokemon doing its job is worth at least a turn of someone else attacking.
The job is mostly (in order, I believe) inflict status, wish, stealth rock, spikes, toxic spikes, baton pass, trick room, or weather change.
 
Support moves are moves that help the team's functioning. Aromatherapy, Wish and the Screens are good examples.
