What is the best way to set up a BellyPass?

After a reasonable amount of success with normal battling, I started looking into a gimmick to try. Just to mix things up and attempt something new. I've found for the most part that gimmick-based teams don't ever work, but I thought it might be worth a shot to try to BellyPass and sweep an entire team. Something that I'm almost positive won't work, because if it did I'd see it much more often. But I need something to do, standard team building has bored me somewhat.

Now, the actual question:

What is the best way to pass Belly Drum? Obviously you need to use Smeargle, but Smeargle is so pathetically weak and stupidly slow that it seems near impossible. So, I guess this is what I've come up with so far.

I send out Alakazam w/ Focus Sash.
Alakazam used Light Screen! (4 Turns Left)
Alakazam takes what is surely fatal damage, has 1HP left.
Alakazam used Reflect! (3 Turns of LS, 4 Turns of Reflect)
Alakazam is fainted on this turn.

I send out Smeargle w/ Leftovers
Smeargle used Spore! (2 Turns, 3 Turns)
The opponent likely switches, if not, even better.
Smeargle used Belly Drum! (1 Turn, 2 Turns)
Smeargle used Baton Pass! (LS is gone, One turn remains of Reflect)

This setup obviously has it's flaws. For example, if my opponent should Taunt Alakazam, it will only be able to setup one screen. Or if my opponent decides to setup Stealth Rock, then I lose the last screen turn to protect Smeargle. Also, Smeargle has to worry about coming into Stealth Rock.

But as far as I can tell, this is the best way to actually ensure Smeargle lives long enough to pass its Attack. Does anybody have other ideas/criticism?

um...better candidate would have to be uxie who can yawn/u-turn/momento as well and this i think goes in ask a simple question thread and WELCOME TO SMOGON!!!!

I considered posting in AASQ/GASA but I am interested in what numerous people think, I'm not really looking for a simple answer. Thank you for the advice though, and thank you for the welcome.

You can use Light Clay on Alakazam for more turns of screens, or even Encore, to Encore their SR and bring Smeargle easier. Post this on Simple Questions/Answers next time

..Would Smeargle still be able to survive a Vacuum Wave from 252 SPA Timid Infernape? Or Mach Punch from Breloom? I really doubt it, even with Reflect.

More importantly, Smeargle's frailty means it will be hard-pressed to survive anything while sitting at 50% health. Not to mention his 75 base speed is less then impressive.

A funky setup trick I saw was this:

Pokemon X uses SRock, Smeargle uses Spider Web, Smeargle uses Encore, SRocker is trapped, Baton Pass to Drifblim, who tricks CScarf and sets up some Stockpiles, then passes to a DDancer. This only works against slower SRockers though (Bronzong, Hippowdon, Swampert, Uxie) or slower Screensetuppers.

I considered that. The thing is, since this is such a delicate gimmick, things need to all go "according to plan". Sending Alakazam out without a Focus Sash puts it at tremendous risk of a 1HKO, leaving Smeargle extremely vulnerable. Encore Stealth Rock would guarantee a safe switch for Smeargle, but would probably also force a switch, and would stunt the screen setup and potentially waste turns of screens, so Encore would necessitate Light Clay.

And again, Alakazam dies at a sneeze.

Originally I planned on using Bronzong. Bronzong with Light Clay would mean a much safer safety blanket, and an Explosion for a safe switch would be great. But if Bronzong gets Taunted right off the bat then we have a bit of a problem.

You're not the first person to recommend something like this. Especially with the popularity of Mamoswine and Metagross leads lately.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, Mamoswine is faster than Smeargle.

The problem with this is both of those leads commonly run priority moves. If this strategy became expected, they would just use the priority move after being webbed, getting a 2HKO before he could pass the web.

The only commonly used leads this works against are Hippowdon, Bronzong, and Swampert.

dude just use this, bulk will save him and he can come in a number of times.

Uxie @ Light clay/Leftovers
Impish/Bold
252 hp/164 sp.D/rest def
~Yawn/Psychic
~Reflect
~Light screen
~U-turn/memnto

most reliable dual screener imo!

Dual Screen Cresselia, Uxie and Latias all work better than Alakazam. They're all substantially bulky, all have a "passing move" (Lunar Dance, Healing Wish, Memento, U-turn), and all have they're own advantages.

Also, Alakazam doesnt need Focus Sash. It's stupid fast, so you can usually set up the corresping screen up against an opponent and Alakazam should survive any hit not called Megahorn or Explosion, and be able to set up the other screen (does'nt work against priority users well).

WTF... smeargle doesn't need screens to belly pass....

send him in on a slow wall after something dies... spore, sub, pass... if its early in the game you could get away with subbing first since they may switch to a sleep absorber... then you just drum and pass...
