I just got a touch for Christmas and am enjoying is quite a bit. Everyone at my high school seems to have one, so I've come to poll Smogon and see if the ipod is really as popular as it seems.

My brother has one, but I'm saving up for a laptop, so i only have the old nano.

iPods are fail. I really don't understand how such a substandard product got to be so popular. (Wait, yes I do; marketing and a stupid general public that doesn't shop around and only gets what is popular.)

Creative players are where it's at if you want a dedicated mp3 player. Other wise get a Blackberry or iPhone (shitty battery life).

I personally have the 16 gb flash memory Zen. It's the size of a credit card, has an SD card slot, microphone, radio, has more compatibility with music and video files than any other player, has an amazing 24-30 hour (music) battery life with unoptimized settings(those are my usage numbers not some number pulled from a creative site or something), has a better quality screen than any iPod, can sync with my computer wirelessly, charges from empty to full battery in 20-40 minutes and was $200.

Oh and higher sound quality.

I don't know if you can do it on the newer iPods, but I can change my backround to any picture I want to something that you couldn't do on the older pods.

I have a Touch for myself. I used to have a Nano, but it broke... then came back to life (after I bought the Touch) so I gave it to my mom. I share an iPod Mini (old as fuck), mainly using it in the car. I rarely use a shuffle I got for free.

120gb classic.

ps @ mrobinson# - it charges to full in about 20 minutes and lasts me for about 36hours and cost me about $215.

I'm not a big fan of Apple so I got myself a Zune. I'm pretty happy with it, but I wish I had a (free) way to convert my videos into a format it can read.

Had a 2GB classic Nano, and just got a new 8GB Nano for Christmas. I love it, and I don't really like the Touch, unlike most people.

iPod Touch 2nd Gen. 8GB for me. Got it as a personal christmas treat to myself and I'm loving every detail of it thus far, except, of course, the lack of drag & dropping items to and from the media player. The one-PC-per-pod lockdown is another hairpuller, especially since i learned recently that the 2.2 firmware my pod came with is non-jailbreakable at current and will remain that way for the longest while. Good work Apple!

Any of you dudes aware of possible workarounds to this that i might have missed during my researching for an iTunes-alternative? By workaround, i mean any third-party software/whatever that won't interfere with the iPod's native structuring, mess with the contents on the player, AND, will provide a means of importing media from more than one personal computer.

EDIT: Also Mrobinson, the touch does allows you to change your background to any pic of your choosing

I, too, told Apple to go fuck itself and got a Creative Zen 16 GB flash memory.

The "value" you got for your memory is not really worth it IMO, because its not flash memory. HDD players are so fragile. While it was the best cost efficient memory source at the time, flash memory isn't that much of a price difference now for something that is almost a necessity in any portable device.

Who needs 120 gigs? 30 is good enough for anyone. Anything more is money better spent. I used to think getting my entire music library (at it's peak almost 60 gigs) on my old player was cool but then I realized I wasn't using the player how it was meant to be used. You might as well just carry around a laptop.

I have a Zen as well, I tend to avoid Apple like the plague and I've been satisfied, I've been using Zen models for quite a few years now

I used to have a 1GB Zen and this Christmas I got around to buying a 8GB one, it's exactly like Mrobinson's(the X-Fi right?). To be honest though for some reason I can't get Creative Centrale to work and so I haven'te ven tested my shiny new baby :(. I can't seem to be able to use Winamp to insert audio in it, I mean, I can but for some reason, Winamp crashes if I delete any songs. Ugh.

Can someone give me a hand regarding this? :x

except i don't only use it for music. a large space like that also allows me to use it as a solid disk drive as well as acommodate things like movies which are handy if you're on a long trip or something.

I have an ipod, the 30 GB one I've had for 3 years, but I'm not impressed with the sound quality, and I'm considering buying another mp3 player. After doing some research, I think I'm going to buy this: Sony Walkman NWZ-A829, seems like one of the highest quality audio (and good video/other features) player around, and can play all my AAC encoded music.

If someone already has this, I'd like to know if it can sync with itunes, as that would be very convienent

I guess it depends on the use you're giving your own player. personally I wouldn't be able to watch a movie comfortably on, say, a tiny little ipod screen (though yeah, that's fucking useful as a disk drive, 120GB is double my current disk space on my own computer), and my music library is barely past 16 gigs, so 8GB fits me just fine. It's not like I am gonna listen to all of my music library. it's all about different needs and uses.

(seriously though if there's anyone out there who can help me with my problem, pm me or something. this is the fucking worst, i need music in car trips and when going to school and right now i DONT have it :( )
