What style of play do you use?

The reason I'm not fond of stall, is the game is so boring. On wifi, especially in sandstorm, it takes like 5 minutes for the turn to end between posion damage, stealth rocks, leftovers, sandstorm, etc.

Balanced teams are usually the way to go. You don't have to worry about one threat running through your frail offensive team, and you don't have to worry about their rapid spinner spinning away all your hard work in a stall team.

I play like im Offensive but I usually have balanced teams. I tend to be VERY reckless though...
I think my problem is that I play full offense but I still keep walls, maybe Id do better with a full offense team.

Balanced- A mix of sweepers and walls/tanks, it has a nice back bone, just in case something fails, but often this style of play finds itself walled by a wall. A nice style of play for comfort, and the ability to sweep.

Stall/Defensive- A real conservative way to play, with little risk to yourself and usses passive damage to slowly kill the enemy. Ideal for people who like using walls to beat the opponent

I use both these styles but mainly a balanced one, the offesive stlye is too easily counter in my oppion and experiance in paticular. Fortress, blissey, celebi, deoxys S, infernape and typhlosion have served my stragatgys and battles best over the changes to my main team.

I play Balanced, most of my teams have three walls and three sweepers, but I make sure I have pretty bulky sweepers and walls which can do a fair amount of damage.

Stall/Defensive takes to long for me, and I'm more likely to make a mistake. As for pure offensive teams, I never really got the hang of them to be honest.

I have no idea what style I play. I just adjust to the flow of battle. I heavily rely on Tricking stuff thanks to Platinum.

If anything though I probably play Defensive. If I can get a Scarf to my opponent's Blissey I then try to focus on obliteration, but with the thought of keeping alive for the longest time.

My best teams seem to lean more on the defensive side. Though I don't mind switching to an offensive team at times just to change it up a little.

However, when I say defensive I don't mean full blown stall.

I usually play BATON PASS, because it is more fun than just playing a bog-standard team. I may have to try something else though, what with all the bullet-punch scizors running about.

I use Balanced with plenty of Thunder Wave support but when in my offense I tend to use Bulky Sweepers to add to the defensive nature of my team like Tyranitar and Heatran but I also tend to use a fast and frail late game cleaner like SD Lucario. Basically Defensive with a very Offensive edge...

Worked great in D/P but plays like shit in Platinum for some reason.

Pure offense just seems to fail for me and Stall is so damn boring...

Offense! Offense! Offense! Any other style of play seems silly to me right now. Not to mention I HATE stalling with a passion. However, I haven't seem a reliable Stall team yet... So I may make one... maybe.

I prefer Defensive play but not necessarily all-out stall. My most sucessful teams had four walls, a bulky sweeper (like Suicune or Togekiss), and then something for late-game once I've worn the other team down (I've used Infernape, Garchomp, Azelf, and offensive Gyarados on previous teams).

I do find myself playing Balanced now, though, because of the Platinum changes. I just don't feel comfortable playing stall right now...I'm still getting used to the changes. I'm using a pretty balanced Rain Dance team (there aren't any total "walls" but a few defensive Pokemon that can still hit hard because of their movesets/EV spreads, such as Porygon-2 and Rotom-W) right now which is doing pretty well but needs a lot more work.

For me, mostly Balanced/Semi Offensive. I usually carry two sweepers, and 4 other pokemon who resist their weaknesses, but are still able to dent stuff decently or use pseudo status/status attacks (such as Discharge) to set up for a sweep later.

"Gimmick" sets and less commonly seen Pokemon are alright too. However, I have yet to make a team that would really suit that style yet...=/

To some people's suprise, I find bulkier teams more comfortable to play with. Naturally I feel best suited to a team which I know can control and dictate the pace of the game with, instead of taking an offensively-based team and, simply put, declaring the winner over a 'toin coss', with the winner highly dependant on whose team has the slight advantage over the other. Yes, I certainly understand that there are other occurances in a match that can change a game and decide the winner it there and then.

I don't actually favour any type of 'style' more than the other; I will however consider just who exactly my opponent is, then choose the most suitable style of team to use for that particular opponent. Of course I cannot do this on the ladder, which is why I feel that an offensive approach is widely effective to all opponents, and I know that a clever opponent who is prepared for stall will not gain an advantage and rip me apart.

My play style varies slightly according to my mood usually. Sometimes I play pure offense, all sweepers and relying on resistances and revenge kills. Sometimes I play a more bulky offense, or even balanced with a "wall" or two, again concentrating on resistances more than healing. I've tried stall, but its quite hard to build a team that covers every offensive and defensive threat. Right now, I play pure offense, with the new platinum sweepers. However, the metagame is slowly shifting toward stall, so I'll probably make a new bulky offensive team soon.

im kinda the style that KG mentioned. 3 straight sweepers (lucario, gengar, etc) and 3 bulky offensive pokes (mence, gross, etc)

I play mostly offensive with one or two Walls (mostly Bulky Water + Steel). The sweepers tend to be mixed, but with one Scarfed Poke.

My teams generally seem to be Balanced / Defense-Oriented. One of my most successful teams before Platinum that I used in OU was Hitmonchan / Mesprit / Meganium / Banette / Porygon2 / Hitmontop (I have yet to try it with the Platinum changes).

Through just watching other people's playstyles, I've learned to play off of my opponents mistakes for the most part, while using support to 'forgive' my own. Since Platinum, though, I've been more playing around with some potential counters to the new metagame.

My teams are mega-offensive while playing off of immunities and resists, and mostly avoiding bog standards because surprise is huge. It isn't entirely offense though, because I usually stick one dedicated wall in there that can do some damage. Vaporeon works great in this regard because wish is a great way to get frail stuff in for free.

I can't do stall. I suck at it and it's boring, and since I play mostly on WiFi it causes a shitload of D/Cs.

for OU i end up with offence, using resistances and prediction to get em in. UU seems a more balanced afair with a couple of walls.

Hey everyone, we all have different styles of play from all out offensive to stall. We all use what fits us best, now let us discuss these style of plays.
Offensive- I style of play ideal for the player who wants to finish the match first with no walls. Employs the strategy hit and run a lot, with lots of revenge killers, and powerful stat uppers. This is common right now as its fast and reliable. Simply kill them before they kill you.
Ideal for people who like using walls to beat the opponent.

I myself use all of these play styles as they all work, and my favorite style is balanced as I its a mixed of stall and offensive, and I enjoy that "backbone" that it gives you, anyways discuss!

Well, here's my experience on things:

As I play more and more of a metagame, I have a tendency to really delve into one style (ex: hyper-aggressive) then get fascinated with another (ex: creative stall) and just keep learning facets of different styles as I go along. For example in GSC: I went from spikes stall to balance to explosion-based to ultra aggro with no pseudo hazer to having two p-hazers and no spikes. I really felt like each style had something to offer in terms of fun and success, and I enjoyed being able to play any speed I wanted.

By this I don't mean playing a lot with an aggressive team, then fiddling around with stall for one or two "fuck around games" and then going back to what I was habitually used to and vice versa. I really cut my teeth on a variety of styles and I can say it helped me a ton when exploiting those same mindsets in opponents.

In my own personal opinion, a player is losing out if he says "stall is so boring and slow bla bla", but ends up having to rely on unpredictable luck enough times to be a consistent aggro winner. Same goes for players who just rely on stall; stall is almost painfully predictable at times because of the small number of Pokemon who can play great defense.

In short, I like all styles, all speeds. I'm not a huge fan of short-term surprise or having highly situational movesets like 90% of DPers out there, because I'd rather have something that works in 80% of situations rather than 5%. I'm also not a big fan of gambling movesets because I feel I don't need nor want to rely on luck to maximize my edges. In the same sense, I also like to use teams that give me a chance to predict and make moves to gain other edges besides team-based ones where no one has much control over.

(I also think there are more categories of teams out there than just aggro, stall, and in-between. I'd explain what I felt those were but this post is long enough as is.)

I started as a balanced player (3 walls 3 sweepers) and although I'd like to say it's the same, i moved on to more of an offensive style using suicune and zapdos as my main walls (and zapdos is offensive anyway)

For me i have been regularly creating "meh" balaanced teams and recently moved onto offence. Which I have been reasonably succesful in by in all honesty I really want to be able to play all styles and be succesful in that so thats my next aim. To create a balanced team that works well and a stall team that works well, allowing me to understand what the cause of success is in each style of play. You have to adapt to the metagame you are currently in as well which is what makes being flexible one of the most valuable weapons in your armory when playing pokemon.

i used to use balanced, but then i went full offensive because no matter how many walls you put on a team, it will always give out free oppurtunites for the opponent to switch in something for free
A prime example, Cresselia, before was thought to be a great wall, capable of stopping the likes of Garchomp, does absolutely nothing to the likes of Machamp, Heracross, Tyranitar, Gengar unless it has Twave

so then I went full offense, which would mean that if they set up its gg as nothing can switch into anything, but itll be very hard to set up
which is also why i avoid choice items if possible, and always go with Life Orb which is the safer alternative.
I would use scarf sometimes to give some pokemon the needed speed boost.

I have never used Choice Band, and Choice Specs i only used on one pokemon ever
