Where do you stand on Cryptids, Aliens, ect?

I was reading a message board a few months ago where this was asked they provided articles on subjects like these and asked for discussion. However no one took it seriously and it frustrated me because it was an interesting discussion as well as the articles. So I remembered that here at smogon we have the congregation so I decided to ask the question here.

How do you feel about Cryptids (Mythical Creatures still alive that were supposedly extinct or never real). This is like the Centaurs, Dinosaurs, ect. And what about more mythical creatures like the Goat Sucker and The Yeti?

And how do you feel about Aliens?

Finally what are your thoughts on Paranormal activities such as the demons, exorcists, haunted houses, and ghost hunting?

Here are some links on some of the interesting ones.

There are a ton of subjects and sites around this stuff. Personally I believe that it could be true although really who can tell?

And that most interesting article of all time in my eyes:

http://unitedcats.wordpress.com/2008/02/28/the-dyatlov-pass-accident/

If you know this incident I thought it was just really spooky. Something forced 9 kids to leave their tents in below freezing weather and they were almost naked as well. They quickly froze to death. However it gets wierder. 3 has cracked skulls and one was missing a tounge. They all had orange skin. There were also reports of metal objects flying over them.

I've always viewed cryptozoology as mere bedtime reading, but I've opened my mind a little since the Giant Squid and Okapi were proven to be legitimate after years of being classified as cryptids. Kinda makes you wonder what other cryptids are waiting to be rediscovered.

A lot of them are obviously just rooted in religious stories that obviously need to be taken with a pinch of salt; the Loch Ness Monster for example was alleged to have been first seen by St Columba in the 6th Century...he fought it off with his faith. It's obvious that this story was just meant to encourage faith in a country that at the time had no primary religion but people latch onto such stories and take them literally. Another (more laughable) example being the Leviathan, which is currently classifed as a cryptid looking at Wikipedia's list of cryptids. ^_^

The others seem to be introduced by communities looking to get a slice of the cryptozoology pie. Millions of pounds have been made through the Loch Ness Monster mystery...is it really a surprise that we now see similar creatures spotted in lakes all over the world and dubbed with a similar title such as the Lake Worth Monster? Oh, please.

I don't believe in anything I don't have evidence for, and as a rule, these things lack evidence.

As for aliens, I suspect that some exist somewhere, but no where near us, and they aren't the little green men or the grays that people portray them as. Could be a bacterium-like organism, could be more advanced. Could be carbon-based, could be silicon-based, could be something else entirely. Either way I don't buy into the area 51 or Roswell stuff.

i agree on the alien life forms with Obi. whatever form life takes on another planet is alien, sentient or not, and with the untold number of galaxies in the universe who is to say that at least one of the planets in their systems hasn't developed life? as for cryptids, i like the idea that there is still something left to be discovered in this world but i'll believe it when i see it.

As far as other life forms (aliens). I think that is the only thing which we have no concrete evidence yet it has to be true. I'm sorry but if you do not believe in extraterrestrial life forms, your an ignorant fool. The universe is so amazingly vast, that it is without a doubt IMPOSSIBLE for earth to be the only planet in the UNIVERSE holding life.
I'm sure there are civilizations out there that are 2 million years more advanced than us, but they were this advanced a billion years before us. See what I'm gettin' at? Were too insignificant to be the only ones.

Billions of galaxies, with billions upon billions of stars in them, cmon..

Statistically, it's almost impossible that there is no other lifebearing planet out there. I feel it is much more likely than science states (though even with current scientific estimates it's extremely likely that other life exists) because we are constricted to thinking of life as we know it.

As far as mythical creatures, Bigfoot is the only one that I put any faith in. I live in bigfoot country, lemme tell you, if you're a camping fan and you go up in the Cascades in summer be prepared to hear some shit that isn't any documented animal. No guarantees but if you go camping up there enough, you'll eventually hear them. I've heard sounds before that are not bears, coyotes, wolves, or any other animal that's known to live up there. No actual sighting myself, but there are certainly plenty of food sources in bigfoot country and it's also very remote. I also give any oceanic mythological beast a bit of credence because of how little we really know about the depths.

There has to be another kind of life somewhere out there, either more advanced or primitive. I think at some point we will came in contact, if not we already have.

Medieval bestiaries are fun to read for ideas for my next D&D game but that's about it. I'm a scientist.

Even if we accept the Rare Earth Hypothesis, I suspect that there are enough planets in the universe to close the gap. Like Obi said, it's probable that they're nowhere near us and, indeed, it is highly possible that we will never meet, making any speculation largely irrelevant.

I believe in almost all that stuff, I mean does it hurt me to believe it? I just find it keeps me less bitter when I keep my mind open to the possibility of there being something there that science cannot yet explain. I don't like to "close the book" on things, and to simply believe something "cannot".

For my actual personal beliefs though on which I genuinely think which ones are real. I have seen countless hours of documentaries and I can say that I'd put money on ghosts/spirits, and aliens being real and both being able to inhabit Earth.

I personally think after viewing all the documentaries I've seen if you still think ghosts/spirits don't exist you're just ignorant and close minded. I wouldn't say I know what they're or that anyone does, but I believe they're 100% real whatever they are. Same with UFOs that are so specialized in the way they move and the way they're seen that they cannot be man made vehicles.

Ghost hunters (TAPS) are a very reputable group that mostly started out as skeptics, but I believe they have proved the existence of the paranormal. The same with the UFO hunters of the history channel. IMO, these shows are great pioneer shows of our time, just trying to get down to the truth, and they do learn and teach whole lot in the process.

I am not the type to argue with skeptics, most of them are just hard headed people that are not actual open to the possibility of this stuff being real. They will not believe anything till they see a dead body in front of them. I'm sure even if a ghost apparition walked through their room they would blame it on a 6 foot floating clump of dust mights or some obviously ignorant explanation.

I collect videos of ghosts on youtube, here are some of the better ones. Not saying to believe them or not, but they're entertaining regardless.

Sure some of them are hoaxed, but TAPs is very credible.

Personally, I don't believe in any of those urban lengends or mythical creatures.
I don't believe any aliens exist anywhere near us or even our solar system.

Besides, if stars continually explode and reform, who is to say that if there are aliens, they might not be billions of years in the future rather than now?
