Whimsicott is a staple on Grass teams that rely on the sun, as it is one of the best setters thanks to Prankster and can pivot into its teammates to take advantage of sun with Memento and U-turn. Sunny Day sets up the sun for teammates such as Venusaur, Shiftry, and Celebi to take advantage of. Moonblast allows Whimsicott to nail Dragon-type Pokemon such as Kyurem-B and Hydreigon. U-turn allows it to bring in its teammates to take advantage of the sun. Encore prevents Whimsicott from becoming setup bait for sweepers such as Dragon Dance Kyurem-B. Memento does the same thing as U-turn; however, it allows Whimsicott to safely bring in a setup sweeper such as Venusaur with a free opportunity to set up. Heat Rock increases the number of sun turns and Prankster gives Sunny Day and Memento priority. Whimsicott should set up sun multiple times throughout the match, and when it's time for a teammate to sweep or Whimsicott is low on health, it should reset the sun and then give it a setup opportunity with Memento.
Teammates that take advantage of the sun such as Venusaur, Celebi, and Shiftry appreciate Whimsicott's ability to set it up, and all of its teammates appreciate its ability to take on Dragon-type Pokemon thanks to Moonblast. Thanks to the sun, Venusaur and Shiftry's Speed is doubled with Chlorophyll, allowing them to fire off attacks faster and become revenge killers. Weather Ball users such as Venusaur and Celebi especially appreciate the sun, as it makes the move Fire type to nail Steel-type Pokemon such as Corviknight and Ferrothorn. Choice Scarf Virizion acts as a revenge killer that takes on threats such as +1 Kyurem-B and Choice Scarf Galarian Darmanitan for the team. It also provides a way to take on the most common hail and sand setters in Alolan Ninetales and Tyranitar thanks to its coverage in Smart Strike and Close Combat. Alongside Whimsicott, Ferrothorn makes up the support for weather-based Grass teams as the team's way of setting entry hazards, allowing the teams sweepers to more easily muscle through the opposing team.

Whimsicott's role on Grass teams is to check Dragon-types such as Hydreigon and provide support for its teammates with Leech Seed thanks to Prankster. Leech Seed + Substitute + Protect allows it to slowly wear down Pokemon, enabling teammates such as Rotom-C to pick them off late-game. Protect allows Whimsicott to scout Choice item attackers such as Indeedee and switch to an appropriate teammate to take their attack. Encore stops dangerous setup sweepers that threaten Grass teams such as Clangorous Soul Kommo-o, and locks walls into using one move. Moonblast hits Dragon- and Fighting-type Pokemon such as Kommo-o and Gallade. The EV spread allows Whimsicott to be as physically bulky as possible while still outspeeding threats such as Hydreigon.
Whimsicott's teammates appreciate its ability to take on Dragon-type Pokemon such as Hydreigon. Teammates such as Rillaboom appreciate its ability to provide Leech Seed support, allowing them to set up more easily. Rotom-C can take on Flying-types such as Pelipper and Corviknight for Whimsicott with Thunderbolt. Choice Scarf Virizion is a fantastic partner for Whimsicott, as it can outspeed threats such as Galarian Darmanitan and OHKO them with Close Combat. Ferrothorn and Appletun make good defensive partners since they can provide key neutralities and resistances against Flying- and Fire-type attacks, respectively, from threats such as Togekiss and Rotom-H. Ferrothorn and Roserade also form an outstanding entry hazard stacking core that can help Whimsicott wear down foes such as Indeedee even better. Other Leech Seed users such as Appletun and Ludicolo form a Leech Seed spamming core with it, giving the team lots of residual recovery. Whimsicott should set up a Substitute and then begin to spread Leech Seed when it forces a switch, making it very difficult to take on. Whimsicott should be used early- and mid-game to wear down foes, allowing its teammates to better take them on late-game.
